The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Ole Miss Rebels, 63-48, on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi in a very high scoring game.
Although the Tide won, it didn’t feel like a win to Nick Saban, the players, and to many fans.
Much of the blame went to Alabama’s defense who gave up 658 total yards, and who let Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral throw for 380 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Simply put, this was one of Alabama’s worst defensive performances we’ve seen in years, and fans weren’t having it.
Even before halftime, fans took to Twitter to share their frustration with how the defense was playing, and even more so, how much they wanted Pete Golding to be replaced.
And by the end of halftime, the hashtag, #FirePeteGolding, was trending.
And it still is.
Here are just a few of the many tweets Alabama fans have tweeted with how they feel about Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding:
#FirePeteGolding is trending and I'm just thinking how the worst d-cord in college football wasn't fired last year. All that talent and bama can't stop anything

@AlabamaFTBL #FirePeteGolding worse defense since the Shula years 🤦♂️. Understand they are young, but depth is a legacy of the Tide

Wouldn’t have been a W if not for our offense and special teams. @CoachGolding you’re out of here bud #RollTide #FirePeteGolding

Well, two strokes and three heart attacks later. Roll Tide! Oh and #FirePeteGolding

Oh look another sack on the backup 😂😂🙄 at least that's 2 for the game, both within the last minute. This was like a flip flop from when the offense sucked and the defense was dominant 😅 @AlabamaFTBL #RTR #FirePeteGolding

Pete Golding couldn’t coach a powder puff game without giving up big scores #bamavsmiss #FirePeteGolding

Alabama shouldn’t have to score 63 points and still have a chance to lose. #FirePeteGolding

So Pete pack up your office when you return to Tuscaloosa. Trade offices with Charlie. #FirePeteGolding

As you can see, Alabama fans are frustrated, and it’s understandable.
In years past, Alabama has been known as having one of the best defenses in the nation.
And they gave up 48 points against an unranked Ole Miss team.
Even Nick Saban’s postgame interview made it seem like it wasn’t a win.
Regardless, Alabama has several issues they need to fix on defense. The lack of tackling, the miscommunication, and the busted coverage have to be fixed before the Crimson Tide faces the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
What do you think?
Do you think it’s time for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide to find a new defensive coordinator?
