If you’ve followed the career arc of former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, there’s no doubt you have a flow chart that looks busier than a hurricane spaghetti model.
Barrett has been in and out of the NFL and the Canadian Football League, often with more catch and release scenarios than a local Gulf Coast school of fish. He has a history of taking part on practice squads of the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was just recently added to the retired list of the CFL’s Edmonton Elds.
Needless to say, it’s been a dizzying affair after he unleashed an assault on the Big Ten career passing records during his time under center in Columbus.
Now, after so many attempts to prolong his football career, Barrett has been hired by the Detroit Lions as an offensive assistant and will begin a new chapter with his football career.

If you know anything about Barrett, there’s little doubt that he’ll excel as a coach. Former OSU coach Urban Meyer often called him one of the best leaders he’s ever been around, and his work ethic and football IQ are off the charts.
Even though he’s up in Michigan, we’ll keep an eye on Barrett and how he’s doing with the NFL. If all else fails, he can be a Buckeye missionary up in That State Up North.
