Ohio State football’s star cornerback Jeff Okudah has dropped to No. 9 in USA Today’s most recent 2020 NFL Mock Draft. Teammate Chase Young still comes in at No. 2.
Nine is extremely low for Okudah who is generally put at No. 3 to the Lions, a team lookng to trade star cornerback Darius Slay. While he may slip past three, nearing double figures would be shocking for college football’s best cornerback.
That position, if he’s taken there, would send him to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags dealt Jalen Ramsey this past season and have also traded A.J. Bouye, so he’s certainly not making it past Jacksonville.
That said, here’s what columnist Nate Davis had to say on the pick.
“If he somehow drops this far, the Jags would be thrilled to begin restocking their corner depth chart after dealing Jalen Ramsey in October and agreeing to trade A.J. Bouye to Denver on Tuesday. Adding Okudah could re-establish this defense as topflight while allowing Jacksonville to address other areas with picks acquired from the Rams and Broncos.”
Leaving after this third season in Columbus, Okudah finished 2019 with 34 tackles and 3 interceptions. Those were both career highs for Okudah yet are still relatively low given how seldomly quarterbacks threw his way.
Okudah has a bright future ahead of him, and if he somehow falls to No. 9, the Jags will happily scoop him up.
