Jaylen Brown had doubts the Boston Celtics were being honest with him during offseason Kevin Durant rumors

Those doubts were put to rest after he reached out to check, but why did Brad Stevens and Jayson Tatum wait for Brown to ask?

It seems star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was not happy with the way his team handled the rumors tying him to Kevin Durant over the summer. In a recent interview with The Ringer’s Logan Murdock, Brown described being thrown for a loop when he learned teammate Jayson Tatum was working out with the Brooklyn Nets star in the thick of those offseason rumors.

Durant “and JT are friends,” the Georgia native said. “They (were) working out together and whatnot. So, I wasn’t sure what the energy was. I wasn’t sure what the direction of the organization was.”

Brown made a point of reaching out to Tatum and team president Brad Stevens to learn where everyone’s head was at.

“Once we all got together and kind of talked it through, we all left on the same page,” said the former Cal-Berkeley standout. “But the action that was taking place during that time, it just didn’t seem like that was the direction that the organization was going in. I don’t know. It was hard to tell, at least.”

“It’s hard coming into teams and organizations and being warm,” he shared. “They operate on different principles, I think. This is an organization. They look at it as a business, where they’ll tell you one thing, and then behind closed doors, they’ll say another, and they’ll trade you off.

“(They will tell) you, ‘We love you,’ and they’ll be having like, ‘We’re going to trade him next week.’ I think that’s just how business is run,” he suggested. “Like, where I’m from in the South, if you don’t come through the front door, it’s considered disrespectful. I feel like a lot of times, when you deal in these corporate spaces, everybody wants to come through the back door or come through an angle.”
