How Texas’ current, future running back room looks after Rueben Owens’ decommitment

After Rueben Owens’ decommitment, there are questions with Stan Drayton’s group. Here is the status of the current/future of UT’s RB room:

Expected key RBs on roster: Jaydon Blue, Jonathon Brooks, Roschon Johnson, ’22 RB TBD, ’23 RB TBD

If everything goes to plan, both the Robinsons will be out of Austin and heading to the NFL. Bijan is a no-doubter, while Keilan will be a wait-and-see scenario. Even then, his coveted speed in a Steve Sarkisian offense should make him a NFL type player.

Another question will be Roschon Johnson. Will he use his COVID-19 year of eligibility for a fifth? Or will Texas be losing three of their main running backs in one offseason? Roster management will become important for Sarkisian.

Jaydon Blue could be the favorite to start to open the 2023 season, with a fellow classmate and a 2023 recruit (hopefully Rueben Owens) also competing for the starting job.

Jonathon Brooks will be the elder in the running back room after two previous seasons on campus. Can the former four-star standout in practice enough over the next couple of years to give Sarkisian confidence in him as the starter? A part of me says yes.

Finally, we’ll take a look at the 2024 roster
