How Texas’ current, future running back room looks after Rueben Owens’ decommitment

After Rueben Owens’ decommitment, there are questions with Stan Drayton’s group. Here is the status of the current/future of UT’s RB room:

2021 season

Expected key RBs on roster: Jonathon Brooks, Roschon Johnson, Bijan Robinson, Keilan Robinson, Daniel Young

This is where you can disregard any recruiting. Bijan Robinson is the present and the future of the Texas running back room. After rushing for 703 yards and four touchdowns last season, the former five-star prospect is hoping to surpass his numbers from last season by a mile. Steve Sarkisian will give him all the opportunities in the world to do so.

The second fiddle is where the competition lies. Roschon Johnson was expected to get most of the secondary carries, but Keilan Robinson announced his transfer from Alabama in early June. Johnson provides a more smash-mouth approach, while Robinson will blow by you before having the opportunity to wrap up.

Fifth-year senior Daniel Young and true freshman Jonathon Brooks remain on the depth chart. Neither is expected to make significant contributions but will be there in case of emergency (see 2019 season). As long as Bijan Robinson is healthy, there will be no worries within the running back room.

What could the roster look like in 2022?
