Haskell Garrett needs your help to cover medical costs

Ohio State DT Haskell Garrett is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the face suffered while being a good samaritan. You can assist.

Look, I know 2020 has beat the living daylights out of normal life for a slew of normal Americans. We’ll get through it and find some sense of normalcy hopefully soon.

However, I can’t believe we’re not talking about what Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garrett did just a few short weeks ago. I remember waking up early on a Sunday morning to news that he had been shot in the “cheeks of the face” and was taken to the Wexner Medical Center. I was relieved to find out that the injuries were not life-threatening.

We also received word later that he was shot because he was being a good samaritan and tried breaking up a fight between a man and woman that seemed to be escalating near the campus of OSU. He was later released and it has been buried in the news cycle of everything going on in 2020 since.

But the story isn’t over for Garrett. He still needs help to cover some very significant medical costs it appears. I ran across this thanks to an article on Eleven Warriors and also wanted to do my part to get the word out.

Haskell has a GoFundMe page that is asking for donations to cover the costs of all the medical bills he is racking up and will continue to likely rack up. All as he recovers from a gunshot wound suffered as a result of stepping up and intervening in a situation that looked like it needed someone to assist. He’s every bit of a hero and yet nobody is talking about it.

We say help the man out and contribute if you can. As of this writing, Garrett has raised just over $17,000 for a campaign looking for $100,000. Don’t worry, the campaign is being run in conjunction with Ohio State and follows NCAA rules. Additionally, anything raised above and beyond the need will go to charity.

Here’s more from the GoFundMe site:

“Haskell Garrett, a Bishop Gorman High School Graduate from the class of 2017 (3- Time Football National Champions). Haskell is a beautiful soul inside and out.  He inspires and motivates all those who cross his path. On Sunday, August 30th while walking in Columbus. Ohio, Haskell tried to stop an altercation between a man and woman he did not know and was senselessly shot in the face by the suspect. Fortunately, he is recovering at home. The OSU Wexner Medical Center conducted intensive surgery on his cheek. Thankfully it was a miraculous through and through bullet wound. Please help Haskell pay for his medical bills which includes extensive surgery and dental implants as his teeth and tongue were severely damaged due to the bullet wound impact.  Please Help a kind soul who tried to assist a terrified woman in danger. God Bless!”

Share this, donate if you can, and let’s help Garrett meet a significant financial need. He deserves it for stepping in harm’s way and just trying to be a light in this sometimes dark world.
