It didn’t take long for the New York Giants to be hit with the injury bug in 2020.

On Wednesday, it was announced that they would be without both linebacker David Mayo (knee) and rookie safety Xavier McKinney (foot) for a significant amount of time.

Surely both losses hurt the Giants with the season just a few weeks away, but specifically, many were excited to see what McKinney was going to bring to the defense.

When the Giants took the Alabama product in the second round of the 2020 draft, many believed they were getting great value and some even considered McKinney a first-round talent.

After going down with a foot injury on Wednesday, McKinney took to Instagram with a video tribute to Kobe Bryant highlighting Bryant’s comeback from a torn Achilles (a much more serious injury than McKinney’s foot injury).

Minor setback . MAJOR COMEBACK #mambamentality

Bryant, of course, lost his life earlier this year in a helicopter accident. His death shook the sports world and many have kept channeling the “Mamba mentality.” If McKinney has the same attitude and drive to win as Kobe did, the Giants may have found themselves a gem in the second round.

As fans anxiously await to see the second round pick make his NFL debut, it’s nice to see such a positive outlook from McKinney following an injury that will delay the start of his NFL career.
