Gardner Minshew pumps brakes on tank talk for Jaguars

If the Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to tank for Trevor Lawrence, Gardner Minshew missed the memo

If the Jacksonville Jaguars are trying to tank the 2020 season in an effort to land Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the 2021 NFL Draft, Gardner Minshew must have missed the memo.

While the Jags have been getting rid of talent on both sides of the ball to the point where Minshew likely feels like Will Smith at the end of that last Fresh Prince episode, the 2019 sixth-round pick balled out in Week 1 and led Jacksonville to a big win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Minshew completed 19 of his 20 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions, finding the end zone through the air more times than he found the grass with an incomplete pass.

There were some who believed that Minshew was going to be just good enough this year to make sure the Jags didn’t end up with next year’s top pick, and that bet is looking good after one game. This is just the latest example that while management may want to tank, players never will.
