Game Day Grades – Wisconsin vs. UW-Green Bay

What grades did Wisconsin earn following their victory over in-state foe UW-Green Bay?

Overall: B

Wisconsin was able to build a lead as large as 25-points against Green Bay but the Badgers allowed for the Phoenix to climb back into the game. Green Bay in the second half got the deficit to as little as 12-points with 9:38 to go in the game.

But like how Wisconsin’s offense responded after Green Bay cut their lead to 27-21 in the first half the Badgers offense was able to respond and get their lead back up to as many as 18-points.

With Wisconsin shooting such a high percentage against Green Bay there weren’t many opportunities for the Badgers to collect offensive rebounds. The Badgers finished the game with nine offensive rebounds, which they turned into six points.

More importantly, the Badgers held Green Bay to three offensive rebounds. The Phoenix entered the game against the Badgers averaging 13.3 offensive rebounds a game. Manny Patterson through three games was leading the team with 10 offensive rebounds but he didn’t come up with an offensive rebound against the Badgers.

Limiting Green Bay to one shot per offensive possession in addition to receiving balanced scoring for the Badgers allowed for Wisconsin to play with a double-digit lead for the majority of the game. With Wisconsin receiving a variety of contributions on the offensive end it made sure that the Phoenix couldn’t take one player away from Wisconsin’s offense.

Game MVP: Brad Davison

Davison for the third straight game scored at least 15 points as all of his scoring came in the first half. Davison was dealing with an ankle in the second half, which limited his effectiveness as he was fouled by Amari Davis late in the first half when he was coming down off of a 3-point shot, which he made as Davison was able to convert the four-point play. Davison played through the injury in the second half but he subbed out of the game about two minutes into the second half. With Davison off the floor in the second half the Badgers struggled at times to get in the same offensive rhythm they established in the first, which allowed the Badgers to go into halftime up 51-29. Overall Davison finished the game with 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field, five rebounds, three assists to one turnover, and had one of the three steals Wisconsin registered.
