Game Day Grades: Wisconsin vs. Tennessee

What grades did Wisconsin earn in their first road victory of the season over Tennessee?

Defense: A

Tennessee struggled to find the bottom of the net throughout the game finishing the game shooting 16-for-46 (34.8 percent) from the field.

But there struggles from the field were evident at the beginning of the second half. While Wisconsin was extending their halftime lead the Volunteers didn’t score their first points in the second half until the 13:36 mark, which came off of a pair of made free throws by Davonte Gaines.

Tennessee didn’t make their first field goal of the second half until the 12:40 mark by John Fulkerson. It would be another four minutes and 35 seconds before Tennessee made their second field goal of the second half as by that point the Volunteers were down 57-to-32 with 8:05 to go in the game.

Between a combination of limiting Tennessee to one shot per offensive possession in the second half and Tennessee turning the basketball over allowed for Wisconsin to help disrupt the Volunteers offense. Tennessee registered eight turnovers over the first 12 minutes of the second half as the Volunteers finished the game with 17 turnovers, which Wisconsin turned into 12 points.

Pritzl was one of five Wisconsin players to register a steal as he led the team with three as the Badgers finished the game with seven steals.

Tennessee was missing one key player in Lamonte Turner who is out for the season as he had shoulder surgery. Turner helps make the Volunteer’s offense go as he was averaging 7.1 assists a game and was second on the team in scoring.

Tennessee still registered 12 assists on their 16 made field goals but none of the Volunteers reached double figures. Jordan Bowden who leads the team in scoring was held to seven points on 2-for-13 shooting from the field. Fulkerson tied for the team lead in points with Jalen Johnson as both scored nine points as Fulkerson went 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts.
