Wisconsin’s second game against Nebraska played out similarly as it did in the first matchup. In both games, Wisconsin went into halftime up 39-38 and in both games, the Badgers used a strong second half from three to pull away and win by double digits.
This was a game Wisconsin couldn’t afford to drop as the Badgers continue to try and improve their seed in the NCAA Tournament and solidify themselves as a tournament team.
Wisconsin utilized a 16-0 run to take control of the game and even though the Cornhuskers were able to go on a 10-3 run themselves to cut the Badgers lead to 65-55 with 7:45 to go in the game.
The Badgers responded with an 8-0 run to give them their largest lead of the game at 18. Davison was responsible for six of the eight straight points that were scored by Wisconsin as Potter scored the other two.
It wasn’t the first time in the game either that Davison and Potter went on a run by themselves. In the first half, the two combined to score 14 straight points as Potter was responsible for eight of the 14 points. In that stretch between Davison and Potter, the two combined to shoot 5-for-7 from the field and Potter went 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Six of Potter’s eight points over the 14-point run between him and Davison came in the paint. Wisconsin finished the game with 26 points down low and at times they fed the basketball down low to Potter or Reuvers to help open up opportunities from three.
Game MVP: Brad Davison
Davison over Wisconsin’s five previous games scored a combined 30 points on 10-for-34 shooting from the field. But against Nebraska Davison was able to match his output total in scoring as he tied a career-high with 30 points. Davison simply was terrific shooting the basketball as he went 8-for-11 from three and 11-for-17 overall. Davison also finished the game with five rebounds, four assists to one turnover in 34 minutes.
