Freshman walk-on wide receiver Marvin Davies sheds his black stripe

Ohio State freshman walk-on wide receiver Marvin Davies joined the list of Buckeye newcomers that shed their black stripes Wednesday.

We’re now up to a whopping 23 Ohio State football newcomers that have lost “officially” become Buckeyes by shedding their black stripes. Jake Seibert received the honor, followed by freshman wide receiver Marvin Davies.

Davies, out of Orange High School in Cleveland, came to Columbus as a walk-on. He’ll have a hard time breaking the rotation, but will be a guy that pushes others behind the scenes, and from there, who knows with development.

What had to be a surreal moment wasn’t lost on Davies as he enjoyed a short ceremony to welcome him into the brotherhood.

“Hey, I just want to say, give all honor and glory to God for giving me this opportunity,” Davies said. “Thank you coach Hart (Brian Hartline) and Zone 6 for welcoming me in. All you guys mean a lot to me. Coach Quinn for helping me in the summer to get my weight up. Go Bucks!”
