Former Texas RB Roschon Johnson discusses his path to Chicago

An unforeseen move to running back as a freshman launched Roschon Johnson to the NFL.

Former Texas running back Roschon Johnson is the textbook definition of a team player. He’s always been that since he arrived in Austin.

The former Port Neches-Groves, Texas, athlete came to Texas as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. An injury ravaged running back room thrust him into a new role.

Then head coach Tom Herman and his staff approached Johnson with an opportunity to make an immediate impact at running back. The former star quarterback took the role and ran with it, becoming one of the top backs on the team. Now, he’s a fourth-round draft pick and on his way to a potential NFL career.

Johnson discussed his path to the pros after being drafted by the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

“It feels great to kind of reflect on everything seeing how far I’ve come,” said Johnson. “It’s a special moment to see myself in this position. With all the coaching, and people I’ve gotten to learn from, I feel like I’m more than prepared to go in and make an impact immediately. My time there really helped me grow as a person, in all aspects of my character. I’m going to bring that with me whether it’s on the field or off the field, I’m going to take that with me as I go to Chicago.”

The former Longhorn will look to climb the Bears’ depth chart over the summer and through training camp.
