Former Ohio State offensive lineman Jonah Jackson earns starting spot on Lions

Former Ohio State right guard Jonah Jackson has been penciled in as the starter at right guard for the Detroit Lions.

I’m not sure that former Ohio State left guard Jonah Jackson will ever get the credit he deserves for how productive he was during his college career. Perhaps overshadowed by an OSU line that had players like Wyatt Davis, Thayer Munford, and Josh Myers, Jackson began to make a name for himself with NFL scouts and executives when they flipped the tape on.

He came to OSU with some pretty lofty pass protection skills but developed into a mauler in the running game as well. He ended up being an All-Big Ten performer and made was noticed as a third-team All-American.

The Lions were so impressed with Jackson that they drafted him early in the third round with the No. 75 overall pick. Early on in camp, it became evident he was in the mix for significant playing time because he got a slew of reps with the starters.

And now, it appears Jackson has earned not only praise from the coaching staff for his work in camp, but also has an opportunity to start in week one. The Lions released their first unofficial depth chart this week, and there he is, penciled in at the No. 1 slot at right guard.

If there was any doubt Jackson made the right move in transferring from Rutgers to Ohio State, this should settle it. He was solid anyway, but going to a program that got him more exposure set this all in motion. He now can say he is primed to be an NFL starter on day one of his football career at the highest level possible.
