Former Longhorn DB Caden Sterns cites Texas staff as reason why he struggled

The former five-star and Texas safety did not hold back when talking about what hindered him at the college level.

Social media is often the gift that keeps on giving.

While it is a way for people to express themselves with memes, gifs and ironic tweets, it also provides an avenue that is as close to communicating with athletes as it gets.

On Thursday, former Texas safety and current Denver Bronco Caden Sterns responded to a tweet debating who had a better freshman season between himself or wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

If you don’t remember the electric freshman year that Sterns had, he recorded what turned out to be career-highs with 62 total tackles, four pass deflections, and four interceptions. He also played in all 13 games for the only time in his collegiate career, as injuries derailed him the last couple years.

Part of the reason that he himself actually picked Worthy for the question.

However, it wasn’t his awareness in picking Worthy as the right answer, but a comment that he added later that specifically called out the poor coaching and strength staff that Texas had under Tom Herman and Yancy McKnight. It’s not often players will publicly criticize a head coach or staffer, so clearly Sterns was not pleased with how his tenure at Texas ended.

The former five-star was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
