Anyone at running back
Running back was a position that the Longhorns struggled at this season. Keaontay Ingram was the main guy, but backing him up was the third-string running back Roschon Johnson. While he was happy to help the Longhorns by playing in the backfield, Johnson has said he plans to go back to quarterback for the 2020 season.
Going forward, Texas will now only have one running back who has played significant snaps at the position next season. True freshman Jordan Whittington was expected to make an impact in 2019, but he missed the entire season with an injury. His return should provide depth and even more skill for the Longhorns to deal with.
The most intriguing player in all of this is somebody who has not even step foot on campus as a student yet. Five-star running back Bijan Robinson will have a ton of hype going into the season and will be expected to get some production. If he can be what Texas fans think he will be, Robinson will be a transcendent type player.
It does not matter who it is, but one of these three players must step up in the running game for the Longhorns. Offensive Coordinator Mike Yurcich has proven he can use a running quarterback and NFL caliber running back in his offense before. With Sam Ehlinger’s ability to run, Texas could have a dangerous ground and pound attack. Ranking fifth in rushing in the Big 12 last season, if the Longhorns can improve there, it will be tough to stop them.
