Five players that need to step up in 2020

If these players can take a step up, Texas is going to be sitting well next season. Here are five players that need to step up in 2020.

Brennan Eagles

Texas is going to take a hit at wide receiver next season as both Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson are going to be making the jump to the NFL. Duvernay not only led the Longhorns in receiving yards, but he also had the most in the Big 12, having 1,386 yards. Collin Johnson missed a lot of time but still was the team’s second-leading receiver with 559 yards.

Brennan Eagles broke out this season after only having one reception his freshman year. In his sophomore season, he had 32 catches for 522 yards and six touchdowns. A big receiver, he comes in at 6 feet 4 inches and 225 pounds. He now has the opportunity to be one of the main guys for the Longhorns in the passing game for the next couple of years.

Malcolm Epps, Jake Smith, and even the tight end Cade Brewer will still be options, but Eagles’ stature and success from this season show he has a chance to be Ehlinger’s favorite target for next year. Especially with nearly 2,000 yards of production gone, it is time for Eagles to step as WR1.
