Five players that need to step up in 2020

If these players can take a step up, Texas is going to be sitting well next season. Here are five players that need to step up in 2020.

Sam Ehlinger

Quarterback Sam Ehlinger already is the man for the Longhorns, being the best player on either side of the ball in 2019. Leading the conference in some major passing statistics, in order for Texas to take the next step up, Ehlinger must do the same thing.

So far in his three seasons as the starting quarterback, he has had one blow-up game that costs the Longhorns a win. In 2019, it came on the road against TCU. He only completed 45% of his passes and threw four interceptions. Only having nine on the entire season, just under half of his interceptions came from that game. He did not have another multi interception game all season.

In the two losses to Oklahoma and Baylor, he had no touchdowns through the air. When the big game comes, Ehlinger must be able to be consistent like he is when playing against lesser opponents. Saying he cannot turn the ball over is unrealistic and will never happen. However, if he can stay consistent there and also put up the numbers we are used to seeing from him when the Longhorns play better opponents, he will take Texas to the next level.
