Final Thoughts and things to watch before early signing day

Tomorrow is when Ohio State recruiting efforts come to fruition. Here are some final thoughts and things to watch for early signing day.

Final thoughts and things to watch for early signing day

  • I always ask this, but until there’s a change, I find myself still bewildered. Why are fax machines still used for receiving national letters of intent? Haven’t we moved past that? With all the technology out there, why are fax machines still a part of this thing?
  • Ohio State has an outside shot at still landing the top class of 2021. It will more than likely go to Alabama with a serious closing kick, but there is a path that leads to OSU overtaking the Tide. It won’t happen tomorrow, but the plumbing can be put in place for it to occur as we especially watch what J.T. Tuimoloau and what he decides in February.
  • Can OSU hold onto all of its verbal commits? Typically there are one or two defections that flip to another school, but things have been quiet on that front leading into Wednesday.
  • Will any school overtake Ohio State for the No. 2 rated class? If it’s going to happen, it’ll come from southern schools Georgia, LSU, or Clemson. They all have a shot.
  • Will we see any flips to Ohio State from other schools? There are always some surprises, and you might even see something come out of left field. We’ll find out tomorrow.
  • Ohio State has hauled in the top class in the Big Ten nine of the last ten years. That doesn’t look to be changing for the 2021 class either. Go ahead and call it ten of the last eleven years.
  • On that note, Michigan and Penn State edged the Buckeyes in 2019, but that was more because that class was never going to have a ton of recruits anyway because of what was coming back. OSU still beat both of those programs in the average rating per commit.
  • Remember when the rest of the Big Ten was hopeful that recruiting would slide a little when Urban Meyer rode off into the sunset? Nah, that’s not happening. Ryan Day and staff have been fantastic still.
  • How about the talent Brian Hartline is bringing into the wide receiver room at Ohio State. It is utterly ridiculous. That position group is more talented than ever on the banks of the Olentangy.
  • Ditto for quarterbacks. It’s looking like OSU will have three five-star recruits under center battling it out in the near future. It’s a good problem to have.
  • What program finishes at No. 2 behind Ohio State in the Big Ten? Right now, it looks to be Michigan, but there’s a big, big dropoff.
  • I never understood people that thumb their nose up at recruiting calling it an inexact science and shrugging it off as if it doesn’t matter. You know who continually finishes on top of the recruiting rankings? Teams like Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida, and Oklahoma. Seems like a pretty good list of teams that are usually in the running for a spot in the College Football Playoff.
  • What zany, crazy recruiting story are we going to get this year? There’s always an off the rails parent or hiccup somewhere along the way that makes this thing a little bizarre.
  • Let’s get after it. We’ll have our recruiting and commitment tracker up and going all-day providing updates, so follow us and we’ll keep you informed.
