Fantasy football: Where to draft New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley

Analyzing New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley set the league on fire as a rookie in 2018, rushing for 1,307 yards, catching 91 passes for 721 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns. Since then, however, it has been downhill due to injuries and ineffectiveness of the Giants offense — setting the stage for what may be Barkley’s final season in New York if things don’t turn around.

Below, we look at Saquon Barkley‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Over his last 2 seasons, Barkley has missed 18 of 33 games and averaged less than 4 yards a carry, but because of the ability he displayed early in his career, he still maintains strong fantasy value.

Barkley is still viewed as a very late RB1 (10th in ADP rankings among running backs). He finds himself in the middle of a 2nd-to-3rd-round run on running backs — behind D’Andre Swift (Detroit Lions) at 16.31 and Nick Chubb (Cleveland Browns) at 18.16 and ahead of Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints) 20.40 and Aaron Jones (Green Bay Packers) at 20.92.

Where should you draft Barkley?

Given his pure talent, it’s understandable why Barkley is viewed as a 2nd-round fantasy pick and a late-RB1 player. That being said, I don’t want Barkley to be my bell cow running back. Not only would I take Kamara (if he isn’t going to be suspended) or Jones ahead of him, I would add Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette to that list.

Someone is going to grab Barkley early and make him an RB1 on their rosters. Just don’t make that player you. If he falls a little deeper into the RB2 category, that’s fine. Just don’t be the person mortgaging a season by being forced to count on Barkley. He’s burned those who have the last 2 seasons.
