Fantasy football: Where to draft Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne

Analyzing Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne’s 2022 fantasy football ADP and where you should target him in your drafts.

Despite missing his entire rookie season after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the preseason, the promise Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne showed in college at Clemson has him being shown a lot of respect in fantasy drafts heading into the 2022 season.

Below, we look at Travis Etienne‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Etienne is rated as the 18th running back despite never playing a down of meaningful football in the NFL and playing for a team that struggled mightily on offense last year. It is unclear if his primary in-house competition — James Robinson — will be ready for the start of the season after tearing his Achilles last season. The Jaguars drafted college teammates Etienne and quarterback Trevor Lawrence to help the franchise turn the corner and both will need to elevate their games for that to happen.

Travis Etienne’s ADP: 41.81

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Etienne is a player with 3-down potential as both a runner and receiver and that hasn’t been lost on where he has been going in drafts — higher than most running backs coming off a foot injury with a sketchy offense has gone historically.

Etienne’s ADP finds him as a 5th-round prospect behind Cam Akers (Los Angeles Rams) at 39.29 and ahead of David Montgomery (Chicago Bears) at 44.90 and Breece Hall (New York Jets) at 49.29.

Where should you draft Etienne?

While I believe Etienne has the qualities to be a special player, he will need to prove more to be given the sort of respect he is being shown. At this ADP, he is being asked to be an RB2 on fantasy rosters and will be counted on to be a weekly starter.

Personally, I would lean toward taking a veteran guy like Montgomery (if you’re convinced he will stay healthy) or Josh Jacobs (Las Vegas Raiders) at 52.88, who is a more established talent within his offense.

Etienne is going to be one of the watershed players in fantasy drafts this year. He has an enormously high ceiling and has the potential to be a top-10 back when all is said and done, but there is still reason for concern that he will be able to achieve those goals. I’d let him slide by and take Jacobs a full round later.
