The NFL career of Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield has taken many twists and turns, the most recent being his banishment from Cleveland after the Browns mortgaged their future with the acquisition of former Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson in a blockbuster trade that sent a slew of draft picks to Houston and the largest guaranteed contract in NFL history to Watson.
Below, we look at Baker Mayfield‘s 2022 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.
Mayfield showed promise early in his career with the Browns, but seemed to regress after a strong start — especially last season. He threw for a career-low in passing yards (3,010) and had almost as many interceptions (13) as touchdowns (17). Considering that has never offered much in the run game, when your points are almost exclusively earned by throwing and you post career-worst numbers, the bandwagon isn’t taking on passengers.

Mayfield’s ADP has him ranked as the 23rd fantasy quarterback, which has him at the very end in 12-player leagues and being undrafted in 10-player leagues. Coming into a new system may have Mayfield amped for a comeback, but fantasy owners aren’t buying into the hype.
His ADP has him in the middle a slew of former 1st round quarterbacks that have either struggled or haven’t had much of an opportunity to shine. He finds himself behind Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) at 137.63 and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) art 141.17 and ahead of Jared Goff (Detroit Lions) at 153.11 and Daniel Jones (New York Giants) at 153.99.

Where should you draft Mayfield?
While many drafters are down on Mayfield, he has some solid weapons in the passing game, including star running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receivers D.J. Moore, Robbie Anderson and Terrace Marshall. With such a strong supporting cast, I think Mayfield is ranked too low.
I’m not a huge fan of him, but I would definitely put Mayfield ahead of Jones and likely ahead of Fields for the simple fact that neither of them has a strong supporting cast around them. The only issue I see with Mayfield is that there is another No. 1 overall pick on the Panthers’ roster — Sam Darnold — who could end up having Mayfield looking over his shoulder if he struggles.
Mayfield is at a crossroads in his career and will likely need to have a big season to get a contract that isn’t just a 1- or 2-year deal with the Panthers or someone else moving forward. He has the talent to be an NFL starter, but the pressure will be on in 2022 for him to prove it.
