If Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen hasn’t broken out, one former NFL QB thinks he’s going to in 2020.
Former journeyman Jay Fiedler who played for the Eagles, Vikings, Jaguars, Dolphins and Jets in his career, thinks 2020 will be Allen’s year. Naturally, no more Tom Brady with the Patriots helps there he said.
“Having Tom out of the division certainly opens up the gate a little bit,” Fiedler said via Sporting News. “New England still is the team to beat [but] I think Buffalo certainly had some good success with Josh Allen coming in.”
But there’s an interesting twist, too. While clearly a believer of sorts in Allen, Fiedler said the NFL not having a routine offseason due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic actually could help the Bills starter. But not because of his arm, because of his legs.
“I think Allen’s style of play can actually be beneficial with what’s going on now and he’s more of a playmaker, a guy who can create when a play breaks down,” Fiedler said.
That’s one intriguing reason for Allen potentially having a good season and one that makes sense. But regardless of that, Allen needs to improve with his arm as well, mainly as a deep threat thrower. Imagine if teams are on their heels? That’ll give Allen ever further room with his legs and short-range passes and Buffalo could have one heck of a player under center.
Easier said than done, of course.
