The Big 12 title race became much more clear last week.
Iowa State defeated Texas 23-20 to knock off any chances of the Longhorns making it to the Big 12 Championship Game on Dec. 19. It appears to be a three-team race for the Big 12 title now between Iowa State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State is the least likely of the three programs to squeak in as they need Oklahoma to lose one of their final two games. The Sooners have Baylor and West Virginia left on their schedule, but the Mountaineers won’t be a walk in the park.
In ESPN’s latest Big 12 power rankings, Texas dropped one spot to No. 4 overall. The Longhorns have a great chance to finish the season with three losses, but unfortunately it’s a little too late to right the ship.
1. Iowa State
2. Oklahoma
3. Oklahoma State
4. Texas
5. West Virginia
6. TCU
7. Kansas State
8. Texas Tech
9. Baylor
10. Kansas
Outside of Texas suffering a heartbreaking and essentially season-ending loss to Iowa State, there wasn’t much of a shake up in the Big 12 rankings overall. However, Kansas State could continue to tumble if they suffer a fifth consecutive loss to the Longhorns on Dec. 5.
