Red River Shootout hangover in-store against West Virginia
Playing against Oklahoma is more than just one week. It is on the minds of people constantly, especially around game time. As mentioned with the week before with Kansas State, something more dangerous could be facing West Virginia the week after the annual Red River Shootout.
As the head coach of Texas, Tom Herman is 2-1 the week after playing Oklahoma, but one of those wins should not be considered a good one. Getting to play Kansas after losing to the Sooners this year, the Longhorns required a game-winning field goal from Cameron Dicker. It was a sloppy win that showed Texas had not fully recovered from the game against Oklahoma.
This year, they get to play host to West Virginia, a team that has wanted to start a rivalry with Texas for a few years now. The Mountaineers do not like the Longhorns and are always treating the matchup like Texas and Oklahoma would treat each other. Whether or not the Longhorns beat the Sooners, there is always some kind of hangover.
Mix that with the fact that West Virginia treats Texas like a rival and it could be bad news. This Mountaineers team will be nothing like they brought to Austin in 2018, but they should be progressing in year two under Neal Brown. Keeping it tight against the Longhorns in 2019, the 2020 game will be a nail biter post-RRSO.
