Eight thoughts on the 2020 schedule

The dominant Alamo Bowl victory has fans everywhere excited about Texas next season. Here are eight thoughts about the 2020 schedule.

Texas’ toughest conference games will come at home

Once you look past Oklahoma in the Big 12 schedule, every other game is seen as a must-win if Texas wants to make it back to the Big 12 championship game. Luckily for the Longhorns, most of their tough games in the conference will be at home this season. Getting a tough road schedule in 2019, it is flipped for the 2020 season.

Three of Texas’ four conference losses came on the road this season. Losing to Baylor, TCU, and Iowa State, all three of those teams now get to travel to Austin this season. The other loss came to the Sooners, but that will forever be a neutral site game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The three teams of Baylor, TCU, and Iowa State are considered the upper to the middle ground as far as competition goes in the conference. To make it to the championship game, winning against those opponents is a must.

When looking at the Longhorns’ road games, Texas Tech and Kansas should not be too big of a threat. Kansas State and Oklahoma State will be difficult matchups, but having next year’s home schedule is much more favorable than what it was this season.

If Texas can win all four conference home games, they will be in prime position to make it back to AT&T Stadium in early December. They did it in 2018 with the exact same conference schedule and will be looking to do it again in 2020.
