The state of Alabama’s top overall prospect for the 2021 class and Crimson Tide basketball signee JD Davison earns another honor before making his way to Tuscaloosa.
On Sunday, the Alabama Sports Writers Association named Davison, a 6-foot-3 guard from Calhoun High School in Letohatchee, AL, “Mr. Basketball” for an amazing season that saw him average 32.4 points and 10.9 rebounds a game during the 2020-21 season.
Not that there was ever a doubt that Davison would win the award, but his final two games really stands out as to how special of a player he is. In the semi-finals of the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs, Davison scored 45 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in a loss to eventual state champions, Midfield. He also had a big game in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All Star game, scoring 35 points and picking up 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Davison is the third player from Alabama to win the honor twice in recent memory. Former Tide star John Petty won the award twice in 2016 and 2017. Most recently, LSU’s Trendon Watford won the award in 2017 and 2018 during his time at Mountain Brook High School playing for Bucky McMillan. Davison is the fifth player overall to win the award in consecutive years.
