With Alabama’s dismantling of Ohio State in the College Football Playoff national championship game, and with Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian taking over at Texas, folks are starting to talk about the chances of a couple of Texas natives being flipped from Ohio State back over to the Longhorns.
Most notably, the two that are often mentioned include the class’ top overall prospect, quarterback Quinn Ewers, and also the class of 2022’s top receiver according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Caleb Burton. Both play their high school football in Texas, and both will no doubt be courted by Sarkisian as he tries to hit the recruiting trail hard, especially for the Texas kids that got away under Tom Herman’s watch.
We’ve heard from Ewers prior to the national championship game saying that he’s still a solid commit, but we haven’t heard anything after. Such a performance you would think could sway a kid just a wee bit right? We’ll have to see.
However, we have heard from Burton. In fact, the day after OSU got ran off the field in Miami, he took to Twitter to let everyone know that he’s still got scarlet and gray on this mind and that he’s “not going anywhere.”

This is great news, and we’ll continue to stay close to it because you know full well the first phone calls Sarkisian is going to make when it comes to recruiting is to Ewers and to Burton. Right now, I’d say they are both solidly in as Ohio State commits, but there’s a long way to go until signing day and things can change drastically.
We’re not saying that’s the case here, but two Texas kids’ listening to the home state school wouldn’t be all that surprising.
