Celtics reportedly ‘not planning’ to sign a big-name veteran free agent

Instead, The Athletic’s Jay King reports Boston will add another name to their list of camp invites to compete for a roster spot.

Those among the fans of the Boston Celtics who hoped to see the ball club sign a veteran big man to shore up their shaky frontcourt rotation in the news of the looming clean-up surgery for starting center Robert Williams III will be disappointed with new reporting from The Athletic’s Jay King.

The Athletic reporter relates that the Celtics are “not planning to sign one of the big-name veteran centers still available” and that we ought to expect the Celtics to “replace the recently waived Bruno Caboclo with another young big man to compete for a spot in training camp.”

While no obvious name pops out at as a likely candidate, it does signal a degree of confidence regarding Timelord’s return — and with camp practically upon us, it should not be a lingering mystery.
