Cal vs Colorado Game Preview

Why Cal Will Win

Colorado still hasn’t been able to figure it out.

The Buffaloes have had two weeks off, but the team didn’t suddenly get better just because head coach Karl Dorrell is gone.

Scoring is still going to be a problem, the defense that’s the worst in the nation in third down stops, the second-worst overall, and the third-worst in scoring D are all still issues.

Cal is quietly playing well. It clunked against an underappreciated Washington State defense in a 28-9 loss, but the ground game should be able to do whatever it wants.

Be shocked if the Bears don’t run for well over 200 yards.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why Colorado Will Win

Maybe the time off will work wonders.

As we’ve seen across the country this season, teams tend to exhale – Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Arizona State – and play just well enough to come up with a win.

There are enough parts in place to be far better, and it has to start with getting more from the lines. Cal’s offensive line gives up way too many sacks and the defensive front doesn’t get into the backfield enough.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Cal getting a little time off will make all of the difference.

The running game should reappear after the issues against Wazzu, the passing attack will keep things moving, and … again, the running game.

Colorado allows close to 300 yards per game on the ground, and it won’t be able to take control of the game with the Bears doing too much to control the tempo.

Florida Atlantic vs Rice Game Preview

Why Rice Will Win

Here come the Owls.

The two losses were to USC and Houston on the road – or, as on the road as going to Houston can be for the Owls – and they’ve had two weeks to kick back and groove on a nice win over UAB.

What’s going right? The running game has been okay, but the offense didn’t work a lick against UAB. A few takeaways helped the cause, and the run defense came up huge.

Running won’t be a problem against Florida Atlantic.

The Owls gave up 300 rushing yards in a loss to North Texas, and that was a few weeks after giving up 314 yards and four scores to UCF.

Rice won’t run for 300, but 200 will do.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

The Rice defense has been able to hold up, but the secondary has had a few problems over the last few games. It’s giving up a few too many midrange throws as Houston and UAB were able to move relatively easily.

Florida Atlantic might not have a consistent offense, but it’s well balanced with the passing game effective enough to take over for a bit – N’Kosi Perry should be good for about 250 yards.

The defense might not be anything special, but it’s taking the ball away forcing seven turnovers in the last three games.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Is this where Florida Atlantic can turn it back around?

This is finally a team its own size coming to Boca Raton, and it should be a bit stronger offensively.

Rice, though, is too good at controlling the clock and is too strong and keeping the chains moving. The Owls will get their yards, but the O won’t be on the field enough.

Louisiana vs Marshall Game Preview

Why Louisiana Will Win

It’s been a grind with three straight losses after a 2-0 start, but the team had ten days off to get ready for the game that needs to get the season going.

Marshall’s offense isn’t going to go off. There’s little downfield passing game partly because the leaky offensive line isn’t giving the backfield enough time.

The Louisiana defense has to pressure Herd QB Henry Colombi, and it has to keep taking the ball away.

The offense needs as many breaks as it can get, and the Ragin’ Cajun D is helping with 14 takeaways – only USC is better than Louisiana in turnover margin.

However, lately …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why Marshall Will Win

Louisiana is having a turnover problem.

The running game has to be better and the passing attack more consistent, but the mistakes – six in the last three games after not giving the ball away in the first two – are the issue. Marshall might be having its problems, but taking the ball away isn’t one of them.

The Herd have seven takeaways in the last two games and are a +6 on the season in turnover margin.

The Marshall run defense has been fantastic, it’s great at coming up with third down stops, and Louisiana is having a very, very hard time getting its D off the field.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Don’t expect a whole lot of points.

Both teams want to control the game on the ground and rely on the defense and takeaways to pull this off. Marshall has been a bit more consistent, but it doesn’t do anything easily.

The Herd will hold up defensively against the struggling Ragin’ Cajun O, but they won’t be able to pull away. It’ll be another tough close loss for Louisiana, but it’ll make this a fight.

Kansas vs Oklahoma Game Preview

Why Kansas Will Win

The offense can still work under Jason Bean.

Star quarterback Jalon Daniels injured his shoulder in the loss to TCU and is almost certainly out. However, it was Bean who was the starter for a bulk of last year – he knows what he’s doing.

The former North Texas starter led the Jayhawks in passing last season. He was the one – not Daniels – who almost pulled off the upset over the Sooners in the 35-23 loss, hitting 74% of his throws for 246 yards. Last week he stepped in against the Horned Frogs and threw for 262 yards and four scores.

In other words, nothing stops.

So what’s Oklahoma’s problem? The run defense is non-existent. allowing close to 300 yards per game over the three Big 12 losses. Bean will throw, but Kansas will start running and keep it going until the Sooner defensive front proves it can hold up.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why Oklahoma Will Win

Dillon Gabriel is expected to be back.

The Oklahoma starting quarterback suffered a concussion early on against TCU and everything fell apart from there.

No, he doesn’t play defense, and there are a whole slew of other problems happening, but the offense couldn’t make up for the problems on the other side in the second half against the Horned Frogs or at any point in the embarrassing 49-0 loss to Texas.

Texas will throw for more than 39 yards – that’s what the Sooners generated last week – against the Jayhawks.

The D won’t be able to hold up, but when Gabriel should be able to push for 300 yards and perk the O back to its previous form.

At least that’s the hope.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Can the Oklahoma team that showed up and rolled against Nebraska find that groove again?

The defense couldn’t handle Kansas State’s Adrian Martinez on the ground, and TCU’s Max Duggan ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Can Bean take off and move?

He’s not Martinez or Duggan running the ball, but he’ll come up with positive yards. However, the OU defense will be a bit better, and getting Gabriel back should mean everything.

This is assuming Gabriel is back and good enough to be back to form. Kansas will keep the offense moving, but being back at home – and with a desperate sense of urgency – the Sooners will bounce back from the debacle in Dallas and get a win.

Air Force vs UNLV Game Preview

Why Air Force Will Win

Which Air Force team is going to show up?

There were injury problems in the loss to Wyoming a few weeks ago, but last week it couldn’t get things moving against a mediocre Utah State D in a 34-27 loss.

But if and when it gets going, no one is stopping what’s coming.

UNLV couldn’t handle the San Jose State running game last week in a 40-7 loss, and now it gets a jacked up Air Force attack that should be able to attack the outside of the Rebel defense and rip off big things.

Air Force still leads the nation in rushing, it’s great at controlling the clock, and it holds the ball for close to 36 minutes per game. However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why UNLV Will Win

Yeah, the Air Force offense was great against Northern Iowa, Colorado, and Nevada. Those three aren’t exactly Georgia defensively.

UNLV might not have been able to get anything going against San Jose State, but the pressure from the defensive front should at least be enough to get into the Air Force backfield.

Make the Falcon offense rush, hope for takeaways. Air Force has given it up multiple times in four of the six games, and UNLV is +8 on the year in turnover margin.

The problem, though, is …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Air Force will always have the ball.

UNLV’s defense is great on third downs, but the offense isn’t. Time of possession hasn’t been a problem, but Air Force is so good at milking the clock and making defenses panic a bit.

Air Force might not stomp on the Rebel D, but it’ll make up for the problems last week against Utah State by owning the clock in the fourth quarter to get out alive.
