Will there be a season? HOW?

How crazy is it to try predicting a college football game months in advance when 1) there wasn’t any spring ball, 2) there aren’t any real depth charts to go off of, 3) no one has ANY clue how to get sports going again, and 4) we don’t even know what the 2020 season is going to be?

Just crazy enough to potentially get some fantastic values on the early lines.

You can bet now at BetMGM on a whole lot of college football games – including going really insane looking at lines in November – with the possibility of hitting something big.

We’ll be diving in a whole lot deeper when we do this for real just before the season – crossing fingers that there is one. But for now …

Michigan vs Washington Game Preview: Preseason Version

Why Michigan Will Win

The running attack won’t go off, but it should be effective enough to at least control the game.

Michigan might have lost some key guys to the next level, but the ground game that started to blast away over the second half of last season should be able to keep it all going despite the talent on the UW defensive line.

At the very least, even if the numbers aren’t massive – the Huskies should be able to keep the Wolverines from going off on the ground – there should be just enough pop to ease in new starting quarterback Dylan McCaffrey – assuming he beats out Joe Milton.

Zach Charbonnet just needs to come up with positive yards on first downs, and he should be able to do that.

Washington has to break in a new starting quarterback, too, but Jacob Sirmon  gets to deal with a reloaded Wolverine defense gets back just enough to be terrific right away.

However …

Why Washington Will Win

Michigan loses a whole lot of key parts to last year’s puzzle.

The running game will be good, but now it has to go on without Cesar Ruiz, Jon Runyan, Ben Bredeson, and Michael Onwenu on the line. This foursome helped the offense turn things around a bit with a big attitude over a long stretch.

It’s Michigan. The pass rush will be fine, but Michael Danna, Josh Uche, and Khaleke Hudson are dong from the front seven.

For Washington’s side, there’s a strong group returning on defense, especially for a young secondary with a whole lot of talent. Overall, it’s going to be a young team returning, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Jimmy Lake will get his first win as the new Washington head coach thanks to a jacked up D that’s going to spend most of the day in the Michigan backfield.

The Washington offense might sputter a bit too often with a rebuilding offensive line and with Sirmon working with a whole lot of new parts to the receiving corps, but the home atmosphere and several big stops by the Dawg secondary will be enough to help pull this off.

Recruiting Team Rankings

Every Pac-12 Team’s Star Recruit

Arizona

QB Will Plummer, 6-2, 205 – He might not be all that big, but he’s a big-time passer with a live arm and the mobility to be what the Kevin Sumlin offense wants.
Key Schools In The Running: Oklahoma State, Colorado, Oregon State

Arizona State

WR Johnny Wilson, 6-6, 230 – An interesting target with the size to grow into a tight end, and the athleticism to be a matchup nightmare as a wideout. Oregon had him, and the Sun Devils flipped him.
Key Schools In The Running: Oregon, USC, Tennessee

Cal

RB Chris Street, 5-9, 195 – Very, very shifty and fast through the hole, he’s a home-run hitter who can be used as a receiver and have plays designed to get the ball in his hands in a variety of ways.
Key Schools In The Running: Arizona State, Utah, USC

Colorado

RB Ashaad Clayton, 6-0, 200 – Really, really fast with the size to bring a little bit of power, he’s more of a home-run hitter than a workhorse. The New Orleans native isn’t just a track guy playing football, though.
Key Schools In The Running: Florida, LSU, Kansas

Oregon

LB Justin Flowe, 6-3, 225 – And go ahead and add Noah Sewell as the No. 1A star of the Oregon class. Sewell is the big-hitting run-stuffer on the inside, and Flowe is the all-around playmaker on the outside with the hybrid pass-rushing ability to be terror from the start.
Key Schools In The Running: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia

Oregon State

QB Chance Nolan, 6-3, 200 – The JUCO transfer has great size, excellent mobility, and the experience to step in and start right away. However, he has only three years of eligibility.
Key Schools In The Running: Utah, UCLA, Oklahoma State

Stanford

OT Myles Hinton, 6-7, 310 – The son of former NFL star Chris Hinton is going to John Elway’s school – Chris was taken one pick after Elway in the 1983 NFL Draft. Myles is a big-body athlete with the talent and smarts to go along with the frame.
Key Schools In The Running: Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State

UCLA

QB Parker McQuarrie, 6-7, 208 – Is he it? Is he the quarterback who’s going to make the UCLA offense work under Chip Kelly? He’s not a runner, but he’s got the pro-style size and arm.
Key Schools In The Running: Wisconsin, Miami, Minnesota

USC

WR Gary Bryant, 5-11, 165 – A tall, thin target with great hands and the quickness to be used as a runner from time to time. He could be a kick and punt returner if needed, but he’ll mostly be a deep threat receiver.
Key Schools In The Running: Arizona State, Oklahoma, Oregon

Utah

CB Clark Phillips, 5-10, 187 – With a good frame, great quickness, and the ability to attack the ball with the hands to be used as a receiver if needed – he won’t drop picks. After originally choosing Ohio State, Utah plucked him away.
Key Schools In The Running: Ohio State, UCLA, Notre Dame

Washington

DE Sav’ell Smalls, 6-4, 244 – The Huskies landed the superstar. The Washington native has the NFL size to go along with the unstoppable pass rushing ability to instant step in and produce. He’s going to be the main man for the new era of UW football.
Key Schools In The Running: Florida State, Clemson, Georgia

Washington State

QB Jayden De Laura, 6-1, 190 – He signed on when Mike Leach was still the head man, and now the Hawaii native should grow into Nick Rolovich’s quarterback. He might not be all that big, but he’s deadly accurate and can run.
Key Schools In The Running: Ohio State, USC, Hawaii

Washington State (6-5) vs. Washington (6-5) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Washington State Will Win

This isn’t the Washington defense of the past several seasons.

It’s terrific, and it’s certainly not bad, but this year’s version isn’t coming up with as many picks, and it’s allowing more downfield plays. The secondary has only picked off two passes in the last six games, gave up over 200 yards in those to everyone but Oregon State, and it’s not getting enough key stops late.

Meanwhile, Washington State’s Anthony Gordon is cranking up the production with two of his biggest performances yet. After hitting Stanford for 520 yards and five scores, and threw three picks against Oregon State … along with 606 yards and six touchdowns.

The Cougar offense has become more accurate, more explosive, and even more dominant. The No. 1 passing game in the nation is averaging 70 more yards per game than LSU’s No. 2 air show.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Washington Will Win

Washington State is a high-end bumslayer.

It’s going bowing with six wins already, but there’s a better-than-average chance that all six wins came against teams that won’t go bowling.

Oh sure, the happy terrific fun-time offense is a blast against the New Mexico States and Houstons of the world, but the Oregons, Utahs and Cals were able to find ways to survive and win.

But how?

Third down stops.

The yards and production will be there, but for this all to work, Wazzu has to keep the chains moving and its defense off the field.

In the six wins, the Cougars converted 40% or more of their third down chances five times. In the five losses, the offense only converted more than 40% in the insane classic against UCLA.

Going along with that is Washington’s running game.

The Huskies are 6-0 when running for 187 yards or more, and 0-5 when failing to hit that mark.

Washington State’s run defense has allowed 187 rushing yards six times so far.

What’s Going To Happen

The Huskies have won six straight in the series, nine of the last ten, and 2007 was the last time they lost to the Cougars at home.

They’ll keep it all going.

Gordon will come up with yet another big performance, but Washington will be balanced, and Jacob Eason will be just effective enough on third downs to keep control of the game.

It’s been a disappointing season for the Huskies, but at this point, closing out with another Apple Cup win would be terrific.

Washington (6-4) vs. Colorado (4-6) Game Preview

If want in on this week’s games, sign up with BetMGM

Why Washington Will Win

There’s no need to mess with this, and there’s no need to get cute.

The Huskies have had two weeks off since slugging their way through a 19-7 win over Oregon State on the road, and the exact same formula should work.

Start running, keep running, and pound, pound, pound.

The offensive line wasn’t able to do anything against the Utah defensive front, and the ground attack has been a bit hit-or-miss, but this isn’t hard.

When Washington runs more than 186 yards, it wins – 6-0. 186 or under? 0-4.

Most teams on the Colorado slate don’t like to commit to the ground game and wing it around the yard – and there’s a reason. The Buff secondary gives up a whole slew of big plays and allowed over 300 yards per game through the air. It’ll be tempting for UW to start throwing, but again, take control with the ground game and all will be fine.

Oregon ran early on, ended up getting a slew of defensive stops after a few decent drives, and finished with 252 rushing yards. Air Force? 284 yards – win. UCLA? 200 yards – win.

“Go to the bank!” Today’s top pick of the day just released

Why Colorado Will Win

Okay, QB Steven Montez. Time to come up with something special.

He’s 0-3 against the Huskies and hasn’t been able to get anything consistently going. If he’s not great, forget about it.

Part of the reason why Washington lost the games this year when it didn’t run wild is because it struggled against the decent passing days by the other side.

That wasn’t the case in the loss to Cal and its run D, but Oregon’s Justin Herbert was sharp, Utah’s Tyler Huntley was terrific, and Stanford got a stunning day out of backup Davis Mills, who came close to hitting 300 yards.

Herbert, Huntley and Mills happened to come up with the three biggest passing days of the season allowed by the Washington defense.

The magic mark this year seems to be 280 yards. Get there, beat the Dawgs. Montez has thrown for that or more four times this year, but even when he’s on, he’ll need his defense to do its part – it wasn’t able to do that when the Buff passing game worked against USC.

In the final home game of the year, and with two weeks off since the win over Stanford, it all has to work now to stay alive for a bowl game.

[lawrence-related id=500899]

What’s Going To Happen

Washington’s rested lines are going to take over early on.

It’s not going to get ugly – the Buffs will bring the energy at home – but they’re just not scoring enough. They haven’t cleared more than 16 points in four of their last five games, and they’re going to struggle to get into any sort of a rhythm this week.

Washington will run for well over 200 yards and have the ball for more than 35 minutes in a workmanlike win.
