Washington Football Team releases Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins has been released by the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team has released its No. 1 draft pick from 2019, former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

Haskins has had a series of mishaps with the team, the most recent being a visit to a strip club a week ago Sunday without a mask that cost him a $40,000 fine.

He was benched Sunday in the loss to Carolina.

Washington-Philadelphia tabbed for Sunday Night Football in Week 17

The Washington Football Team looks to win the NFC East against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football

The game will determine the NFC East championship in some form. Still, it is hard to believe the best the NFL and NBC have to offer in Week 17 is Washington at Philadelphia.

That was determined Sunday night when Al Michaels announced the Washington-Philly game would be the “Sunday Night Football” location.

If the Eagles win, the team that wins the Cowboys-Giants game earlier that Sunday would be the NFC East champion. If the WFT defeats the reeling Eagles, Ron Rivera and Co. would play host to a playoff game.

So, you have a 6-9 team playing a 4-10-1 team to determine whether it gets into the playoffs or if another 6-9 team or one that is 5-10 coming in gets to go to the postseason.

That is going out with a whimper.

Brandon Zylstra recovered the Steven Sims Jr. touchdown for a Panthers touchdown

Brandon Zylstra was on the spot Sunday as the Carolina Panthers grabbed an early lead against Washington.

The WFT muffed a punt and the ball caromed into the end zone, where Zylstra pounced on it for the touchdown.

Steven Sims Jr. was responsible for the gaffe.

Carolina Panthers pay stirring tribute to former coach Ron Rivera

Great job by Carolina Panthers in saluting former coach Ron Rivera

They will be on opposite sides Sunday as the Washington Football Team welcomes the Carolina Panthers.

However, their hearts are in the same place: Saluting Coach Ron Rivera.

When the Panthers arrived at their lockers, there were hoodies that read Rivera Strong, an homage to the man who coached them for almost nine seasons.

Rivera was found to have cancer in 2020 and the coach went through treatment and it is in remission.

Well played by everyone with the Carolina franchise. Everybody is on the same team: Beat Cancer!

Report: Dwayne Haskins fined 40K for maskless strip-club antics

Dwayne Haskins has been hit with a heavy fine by the Washington Football Team.

Dwayne Haskins was a No. 1 pick out of Ohio State in 2018. The Washington Football Team was hoping for a franchise quarterback.

Haskins has not delivered on that front and has found himself in a couple of COVID-19 related issues with the team in 2020.

The most recent, a visit to a strip club Sunday after the loss to Seattle where he did not wear a mask, is going to hurt Haskins’ bank account. Big time.

Ian Rapoport is reporting Wednesday the WFT has fined Haskins $40,000 for his antics. That’s a lot of singles that won’t be making it rain anytime soon.

What caused the issue:

Washington Football Team QB Dwayne Haskins caught maskless in strip club

Washington Football Team QB Dwayne Haskins is in hot water for going to strip club without a mask

The Washington Post posted a huge story on Tuesday, breaking that the organization paid $1.6 million to a woman who claimed sexual misconduct by team owner Daniel Snyder.

Hours later, it was revealed quarterback Dwayne Haskins is in trouble for going to a strip club … sans mask.

The team said it has made the league aware of the picture that was on Instagram, which was taken hours after Haskins had started in Washington’s 20-15 loss to Seattle. Handling the issue internally likely means Haskins will be fined, as he was earlier this season when he violated COVID-19 protocols by making reservations for a family friend to stay at the team hotel the night before a road game against the New York Giants.

Haskins tweeted an apology, saying he spoke with coach Ron Rivera on Monday and “took full responsibility for putting the team at risk. It was irresponsible and immature and I accept responsibility for my action.” He also issued an apology to his teammates for “creating a distraction during our playoff push.”

“I want to publicly apologize for my actions this past Sunday,” Haskins tweeted before turning his account setting to private. “I spoke with Coach Rivera yesterday and took full accountability for putting the team at risk. It was irresponsible and immature of me and I accept responsibility for my action. I also want to apologize for creating a distraction for my team during our playoff push. I will learn and grow from this and do what’s best for the team moving forward.”

J.J. Watt offers ‘incredible’ praise to Alex Smith

J.J. Watt offered high praise to Alex Smith after the QB’s win over Pittsburgh

J.J. Watt knows what it takes to come back from injury. The Houston Texans’ star has seen his share of bumps, bruises, and more.

So, when he offers praise to an NFL player and uses the word “incredible” to describe that player’s accomplishments and comeback, everyone needs to pay attention.

After the Washington Football Team derailed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, Watt gushed on Twitter over the play of quarterback Alex Smith.

Watt was one of the Texans involved in the sack that broke Smith’s leg in the  2018 game. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year converged with cornerback Kareem Jackson as they tackled the Washington passer.

Smith missed last season while undergoing 17 surgeries to fix issues and complications from the brutal injury.

No surprise that Watt would deliver a big-time compliment to a fellow big-time player.

A pair of field goals by Dustin Hopkins late gave Washington a victory over Pittsburgh, the Steelers’ first loss

The 1972 Miami Dolphins can pop the champagne. The Washington Football team surprised the Steelers, 23-17, on Monday. The loss was Pittsburgh’s first after 11 wins to open the season.

The game-winning score was a 45-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins with just more than two minutes left. Hopkins added another field goal from the same distance with 17 seconds left for the final score.

The first field goal was set up by a beautiful catch on a pass from Alex Smith to Cam Sims for 29 yards.

The perfect ’72 Dolphins celebrate every season when the last undefeated team loses its first game so no other team can match their mark.

On the Steelers’ next drive, Ben Roethlisberger was picked by Jon Bostic.

The last play saw Roethlisberger hit tight end Eric Ebron for 22 yards to the Pittsburgh 47 but the clock ran out as he could not get out of bounds.

That is the 11-0 Steelers.

Good job by the FOX affiliates who chose not to show this one. Not.

Alex Smith’s legs can’t stay away from woes.

The Washington Football Team quarterback, who needed 17 surgeries after breaking his right leg in 2018, suffered a cut on Monday during the game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It didn’t seem to faze him as he just stood there with the training staff taping it up and blood streaming all over his uniform leg and cleats
