Washington Football Team makes Jason Wright first Black NFL Team President

The Washington Football Team has hired Jason Wright as Team President. The former NFL player is the first Black to hold the position.

Changes are afoot big time for the scandal-ridden Washington Football team.

Former NFL running back Jason Wright has been named team president it was announced Monday. Wright, 38, becomes the first Black president of an NFL team. He also is the youngest person to hold the position with any NFL club.

“If I could custom design a leader for this important time in our history, it would be Jason. His experience as a former player, coupled with his business acumen, gives him a perspective that is unrivaled in the league,” Washington Football Team owner, Dan Snyder said. “We will not rest until we are a championship-caliber team, on and off the field. Jason has a proven track record in helping businesses transform culturally, operationally and financially. He is a proactive and assertive advocate for inclusion of all people and will set new standards for our organization, and for the league. There could not be a better duo than Jason Wright and Coach Ron Rivera as we usher in a new era for Washington Football.”

Wright will be responsible for leading the organization’s business divisions, including operations, finance, sales, and marketing. He replaces Bruce Allen, who was dismissed as team president at the end of the 2019 season.

The team has changed its name to Washington Football Team this offseason after Snyder said he would never remove the previous nickname despite its racist connotations. Then, the Washington Post ran an investigation exposing alleged sexual harassment of 15 women who worked for the organization that led to the exit of multiple executives.

Wright went to Northwestern. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on April 26, 2004, and was waived by the 49ers on Aug. 31, 2004. Wright was run down and tackled from behind by Brock Lesnar in a 2004 preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

He was also was with the Falcons and Browns. Wright saw playing time for the Browns when he made his Cleveland debut on Nov. 6, 2005, versus the Tennessee Titans, when he had eight carries for 19 yards and the Browns’ first rushing touchdown of the season.

An unrestricted free agent in the 2009 offseason, Wright signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals on March 16.

In July 2011, he announced his retirement from the NFL to attend business school at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Overall, Wright rushed for 633 yards in his NFL career.

Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith has been cleared for football activity.

How about some joy in the COVID-19 throttled world? Check out the family of Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith after he learned Saturday he is cleared officially for football activities.

Smith suffered a compound fracture in his left leg that required more than 15 surgeries since 2018.

Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers who also played for the Chiefs, will be in competition for the Washington job with Dwayne Haskins, who struggled as a rookie after being a first-round draft pick from Ohio State.

Smith is expected to be activated off the PUP list as soon as Sunday.

“If Alex is healthy and continues to get healthy and we do activate him, he’s going to be in the throes of this competition,” coach Ron Rivera said last week. “It’s going to unfold very nicely as a football team for us because competition is only going to make you better. It’s going to push the young guys as well.”

Deion Sanders joins Barstool Sports

Deion Sanders has joined Barstool Sports after leaving The NFL Network.

If there was any doubt — and the honchos will tell you there never was — Barstool Sports is ready for Prime Time. Officially.

Deion Sanders has joined Barstool Sports in the aftermath of his exit from The NFL Network.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back and return specialist joined Barstool Wednesday.

Sanders, who exited NFL Network reportedly after declining to take a pay cut, will join the independent operation that relishes periodically (or more often) poking a finger in the eye of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Sanders will have a podcast, make regular appearances on the Pardon My Take podcast, and also be part of a Sunday pregame show.

Of course, it was introduced with a tweet that included some risque, NSFW language:

Washington Football Team activates Reuben Foster from PUP list

The Washington Football Team activated Reuben Foster from the PUP list.

Some get it and others never will. Two days after releasing RB Derrius Guice following his arrest on domestic violence charges, the Washington Football Team felt it was the opportune moment to active LB Reuben Foster from the PUP list.

That is the same player who was claimed off waivers by Washington in November 2018 after being waived by the San Francisco 49ers because of an arrest for misdemeanor domestic violence.

A previous arrest in 2018 for domestic violence charges against the same woman resulted in the judge dropping the charges.

Foster landed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List after the November arrest. The decision to pick up the former Alabama star created quite the controversy.

Foster has yet to see game-action with Washington because he tore the lateral collateral ligament and anterior crucial ligament in his left knee on the first day of organized team activity work in May 2019. He also suffered nerve damage in his foot, which lengthened his recovery period.

The 49ers selected Foster in the first round (31st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the third inside linebacker, behind Haason Reddick and Jarrad Davis, and the fifth linebacker selected in 2017.

In addition to the ugly Guice arrest, the Washington Football team also recently was the subject of a Washington Post investigation that revealed alleged widespread sexual harassment in its front office.

Report: Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder files $10M defamation suit

Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $10 million.

The Washington Football Team is front and center in the news on a nonstop basis.

Team owner Daniel Snyder has filed a $10 million lawsuit in New Delhi and in federal court papers in California, Snyder said the news site, Media Entertainment Arts WorldWide, whose parent company is based in India, published stories that it knew were false and designed to malign him, some using information from anonymous posts on social news sites including Reddit, according to The New York Times.

The stories, which have since been removed from M.E.A. WorldWide’s website, asserted that Snyder was involved in sex trafficking and speculated that the team’s minority owners were “looking at bringing him down citing inappropriate and unchaste behavior as one of the major reasons,” according to parts of the story included in the complaint.

The suit comes on the same day Snyder’s team released its second-round pick in 2018, Derrius Guice, who was arrested on domestic-abuse charges.

As for the Snyder lawsuit, per The Times:

Snyder, who seeks $10 million in damages, wants to identify if, and by whom, M.E.A. WorldWide was paid to publish the articles, his lawyer, Rizwan A. Qureshi of the firm Reed Smith, said in a statement.

“While Mr. Snyder understands that truthful criticism about the Washington Football Team comes with the territory of owning the team, malicious criminal allegations cross the line. He intends to hold all of those responsible for this defamation accountable, and will donate any proceeds recovered in the lawsuit to charity.”

In a phone interview, Nirnay Chowdhary, a founder of MEA WorldWide, acknowledged “some sort of errors” were made in the stories about Snyder. “We are going to be launching an internal investigation,” he said.

The Washington Football Team showcased numbers being applied to helmets.

The changes are happening. Gone is the logo from the helmet of the Washington Football Team, replaced by numbers.

Daniel Snyder’s social team proudly popped a video Wednesday showcasing how the numbers were being applied and how they look.

This could be the start of something cool. Why not stick with it in the long run?

Report: San Francisco 49ers sign Jordan Reed

The 49ers are taking a chance on injury-riddled Jordan Reed.

The San Francisco 49ers have a great tight end in George Kittle. Does the team anticipate problems with the All-Pro? Could that be why it is signing former Washington TE Jordan Reed?

Nah.

Anyway, the Niners did agree to a deal with the concussion-plagued Reed on Monday, per Adam Schefter.

The key words are “when healthy.” He did not play last season. The former Florida star missed 31 games in his first six seasons in the league. The most games he has played in a season is 14.

Overall, Reed has 329 catches for 3,371 yards. He has had numerous concussions and seems to be a risky proposition to put on the field.
