Watch: Tom Brady finds Antonio Brown for Tampa Bay touchdown

Tom Brady found a wide-open Antonio Brown for a Buccaneer TD

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were big favorites over the Washington Football Team. Tom Brady wanted to show why early and often.

Brady found a wide-open Antonio Brown in the first quarter Saturday and the wideout, also the quarterback’s housemate cruised into the end zone on the 36-yard play.

The PAT was missed, of course, and the score remained at 9-0.

Who is Taylor Heinicke, starting QB for the Washington Football Team?

Tayloe Heinicke will replace Alex Smith at QB against Tom Brady and the Bucs

With Alex Smith inactive, Ron Rivera turns the offensive over to Taylor Heinicke.

Taylor who?

In 2012, Heinicke threw for a Division I-record 730 yards as Old Dominion beat New Hampshire 64-61 in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. Heinicke set school records for completions (55), attempts (79), and passing yards (730).

A four-year starter for the Monarchs, Heinicke finished his college career with nearly 15,000 passing yards and 132 touchdown passes — both school records. He also scored 22 rushing touchdowns.

By the time he graduated from Old Dominion, Heinicke had almost every school passing record to his name. His 14,959 career passing yards are over 9,000 more than the next highest in school history, while his 132 passing touchdowns are over 80 more than the next closest.

Heinicke went undrafted in 2015 but signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2017, Heinicke was waived/injured by the Vikings and was placed on the injured reserve. He was released with an injury settlement on Sept. 11.

He also has been with the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.

On Dec.8, Heinicke signed with the practice squad of the Washington Football Team. Prior to joining them, he was in the process of finishing his engineering degree at Old Dominion.

He lost his lone career start as a Panther in 2018.

On Dec. 27, he was 12-of-19 as the WFT faced the Panthers. He threw for 137 yards and a touchdown.

So the matchup in the Wild-Card game is Heinecke vs. Tom Brady.

Taylor Heinicke to start for Washington; Alex Smith inactive

Alex Smith’s comeback hits a hurdle as he will not be available against the Buccaneers in the Wild-Card game

The incredible story of Alex Smith’s comeback has hit a roadblock.

The veteran quarterback has been bothered by a calf injury. It is enough that he will not be active Saturday when the Washington Football Team plays host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC Wild-Card game.

The backup on the active roster is Steven Montez, a rookie from Colorado.

Mike Tirico to call Tampa Bay-Washington from home

Mike Tirico will call the Bucs-Washington Football Team Wild-Card game from his home due to COVID-19 issues

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact players and broadcasters.

NBC Sports announced Friday Mike Tirico will call their broadcast of Saturday’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Washington Football Team game from his home, per COVID-19 protocols.

Tony Dungy and Kathryn Tappen will be at the game, per the tweet.

Eagles’ Miles Sanders rips decision to replace Jalen Hurts

The switch to Nate Sudfeld did not sit well with many Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles’ season is over. The controversy over their last game is far from done.

The NFL is still buzzing over Doug Pederson’s decision to replace Jalen Hurts with the game on the line against Washington on Sunday.

Nate Sudfeld came into the close contest and was overmatched to say the least.

Now, running back Miles Sanders says the team was bewildered and unhappy with the choice to replace Hurts with a quarterback who had not seen the field in a regular-season game since 2018.

And according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Sanders isn’t the only one who was disgusted.

The loss enhanced Philadelphia’s draft position from No. 9 with a victory to No. 6.

Watch: Giants’ coach Joe Judge calls out Doug Pederson without naming him

Joe Judge didn’t mention anyone by name but isn’t happy with Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles

The Nate Sudfeld experiment in the final quarter of Sunday’s Washington-Philadelphia game left a bad taste with everyone.

Doug Pederson didn’t go for a field goal when he could have tied the game and then inserted a third-string quarterback under the pretense of getting Sudfeld some “deserved” reps.

The problem was the NFC East title hung in the balance and Sudfeld was totally outmatched.

Washington won and the New York Giants were out due to some questionable coaching.

Giants coach Joe Judge addressed the issue Monday and made it clear he would never take that approach to any NFL game.

Oh, and he never mentioned the Philadelphia Eagles or their coach.

Judge will get two cracks at Pederson and the Eagles in 2021 to settle the issue on the field.

Ron Rivera, Alex Smith lead Washington Football Team to NFC East title

A tremendous story has been written by Ron Rivera and Alex Smith in Washington

Ron Rivera battled cancer. Alex Smith overcame an injury that almost cost him his leg.

And now, the coach and quarterback of the Washington Football Team can call themselves NFC East champions after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, 20-14.

Alex Michaels summed it up best, threatening to say, “Do you believe in miracles?” That is the line he used when the 1980 Olympic team stunned the Russians in Lake Placid. Michaels held his tongue in Philly.

The 7-9 record and overall ineptitude of the NFC East has created a stream of jokes.

However, there should be nothing but admiration for Rivera and Smith, who overcame so much to lead Washington into the playoffs.

Rivera spoke at length after learning he had cancer in August.

He went through treatment and got to ring the bell after he was clear of the dreaded disease.

Smith’s story has been told in great detail and he is nothing short of the Comeback Player of the Year.

And now, they get read to play host to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild-Card round.

Amazing.

Nick Mangold asks what everyone is thinking

Nick Mangold hit what everyone was thinking with a tweet about the Philadelphia Eagles

Doug Pederson seemed to be playing not to win Sunday night.

First, he goes for it on fourth-and-goal from the 4 rather than taking a chip-shot field goal that would have tied the Philadelphia Eagles with the Washington Football Team at 17.

Then, early in the fourth quarter, he pulled starter Jalen Hurts for Nate Sudfeld, who had not played since 2018.

Sudfeld threw an interception, which probably was as good as a punt.

But the New York Giants needed the Washington Football Team to lose so they could win the NFC East and make the playoffs.

Ex-Jet center Nick Mangold nailed it with a tweet after the perplexing Pederson decisions.

A Giants wideout weighed in, too.

The Eagles intercepted an Alex Smith pass and Pederson came back with Sudfeld, who dropped the snap on the second play and Chase Young recovered for Washington.

And the New York Giants may not recover from this decision-making for a long time.

Watch: Marcus Epps makes absurd interception for Eagle

Marcus Epps with a spectacular interception of Alex Smith in the third quarter

Marcus Epps was making a tackle in the third quarter of Sunday’s game between the Washington Football Team and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Somehow, the Eagles DB wound up with the hit and the pick of the Alex Smith pass, one of the more bizarre interceptions of the season.

The Eagles drove to the 4-yard line and instead of taking a chip-shot field goal for the tie, Doug Pederson went for it on fourth down and Jalen Hurts threw an incomplete pass.

The New York Giants can’t be delighted how that played out.

Alex Smith’s leg brace is an incredibly cool Vince Lombardi Trophy

Alex Smith’s leg brace is now in the shape of the Vince Lombardi Trophy

Alex Smith’s comeback for the Washington Football Team has been incredible.

And it matters not whether the WFT wins the NFC East by beating the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He has been a marvel.

And his family has been there through all the surgeries and recuperation.

Smith’s wife, Liz, posted on Instagram a cool tribute as the brace that helped put Alex Smith together again has been turned into the Vince Lombardi Trophy, of sorts.

Super, like Alex Smith.

Waiting for this game and I’m a nervous wreck. I look up at our bookshelves as a reminder of where we have been and the hard work to get to this moment. No matter the outcome, Alex has already won. He has beat the largest challenge life has thrown our way. I am incredibly proud and will be cheering loud. Let’s go Washington!

Special thanks to @coldhardart for transforming a symbol of hard times to a trophy of triumph we can proudly put on our shelves. ❤️❤️❤️
