Biggest takeaways from Titans’ first practice of training camp

DeAndre Hopkins’ practice debut and the return of Harold Landry are just two of the biggest takeaways from the Titans’ first practice of training camp.

Training camp is officially here, as the Tennessee Titans took part in their first practice on Wednesday, which was open to reporters and gave us a look at the team in action.

While there were several interesting takeaways from the session, the biggest was the practice debut of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was officially introduced on Tuesday.

Hopkins took part in drills but went in about halfway through practice. Beat reporters noted he did not appear to be dealing with an injury, so nothing to worry about there.

Another exciting part of Wednesday’s practice was the return of Harold Landry, who is coming back from a torn ACL suffered prior to last season. Landry was sans-brace and looked to be a full-go.

We have videos of both Landry and Hopkins below, as well as a bunch of other takeaways from the first training camp practice, courtesy of the beat writers on the ground. Keep scrolling to check them out.

Here are the Broncos’ linebacker ratings in ‘Madden NFL 24’

Broncos ILB Josey Jewell is rated 80 OVR (up from 76 last year) and Alex Singleton is rated 79 OVR (up from 72 last year) in ‘Madden.’

(EA Sports, Madden NFL 24)

EA Sports has released player ratings for “Madden NFL 24” and we now know the ratings for every Denver Broncos inside linebacker in the popular video game.

Josey Jewell is the team’s best linebacker with an 80 overall rating. Fellow starter Alex Singleton is the second-best with a 79 OVR rating.

Those represent notable rating increases for both Jewell and Singleton, who were rated 76 and 72, respectively, in last year’s version of “Madden.”

Broncos rookie Drew Sanders and vet Jonas Griffith are both rated 72 OVR this year. Justin Strnad rounds out the team’s ILB depth with a 64 OVR rating. Griffith was 69 OVR last year and Strnad was 64 OVR.

Singleton has the best tackle rating (92) among the team’s linebackers, followed by Jewell (89), Griffith (83) and Sanders (78). Strnad’s tackle rating is 75.

EA Sports did not include Seth Benson or Ray Wilborn on the Broncos’ roster, so neither of them have ratings in “Madden” yet.

“Madden NFL 24” will be released on August 15.

Titans drop another Oilers throwbacks teaser ahead of upcoming reveal

The Titans have dropped yet another Oilers throwbacks teaser video ahead of the upcoming reveal.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

With the official reveal of the Houston Oilers throwbacks just days away, the Tennessee Titans have dropped yet another teaser video.

The Titans are set to reveal their 2023 Oilers throwbacks on Sunday, July 23 at 8 p.m. CT, although it remains to be seen how exactly that will be done.

My guess is it will be done through a post on social media but that has yet to be confirmed. Whatever the case may be, we are inching closer to a moment any Titans fan with a pulse has been waiting for.

Take a look at the new teaser video the Titans released on Wednesday morning.

We did get a bit of an update recently as far as Tennessee’s approach to wearing the jerseys in 2023.

Jim Wyatt of the team’s official site noted in a recent mailbag that the team would not wear the Oilers threads for any away games after previously stating it was a possibility.

Unfortunately, that also means they won’t be wearing them in Houston against the Texans, which would have made that game even juicier given Texans fans remain irate that the Titans own HOUSTON Oilers history.

However, we still get the home game with the Oilers throwbacks, which is definitely good enough for me.

The Seahawks have been part of some of the most memorable moments in NFL history. It doesn’t get much more significant than the Fail Mary play from 2012, which resulted in the end of the NFL’s scab referee experiment and forever embittered Packers fans against Seattle.

Watch: Titans’ Tyjae Spears reacts to break tackle rating in ‘Madden NFL 24’

Check out Titans RB Tyjae Spears’ reaction when he found out one of his ratings in “Madden NFL 24”.

The release of “Madden NFL 24” player ratings, which will begin on Monday, July 17, will no doubt cause a wide range of reactions throughout social media, as they do every year.

Some really buy into the excitement and see the fun in the rollout of ratings, while others think this is one of the more pointless and overhyped parts of the offseason.

Regardless of where you personally stand, thereā€™s no denying that the initial ratings release is starting to turn into more and more of a spectacle with each passing year.

When it comes to the rookie running backs, the video game decided to do something a little different.

The team at EA Sports decided to hook each of the rookies up to some sort of lie detector while they were told their ratings for the very first time in a variety of different categories, while also filming it.

Titans rookie running back Tyjae Spears was among those in attendance, and it was revealed to him that he is starting out with a 78 break tackle rating, which was the only mark revealed in the video.

The Titansā€™ third-round selection tried to downplay his feelings about the rating by saying that heā€™ll get it up, but the light subsequently turned red, indicating that heā€™s not nearly as content as heā€™s trying to portray.

Spearsā€™ overall rating wasnā€™t released in the video, but donā€™t get your hopes up in regard to seeing a high number whenever it does.

Rookies usually fall somewhere in that 50-79 range, so itā€™s a safe bet that a third-round running back such as the Tulane product will probably fall somewhere in the middle of that.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce outshoots Patrick Mahomes on the golf course

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce defeated QB Patrick Mahomes in the Korbel Champagne long-drive competition at the American Century Championship. | from @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are back at it again on the golf course this weekend. The pair is set to compete in the American Century Championship for the fourth consecutive year at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada raising money for local and national charities.

Before this weekendā€™s tournament, Mahomes and Kelce participated in a long-distance drive competition to see which holder could hit the furthest distance from the tee. While Mahomes put up a respectable score of 317 yards, Kelce shattered that number with an impressive 362 yards to win the Korbel Champagne long-drive competition on Thursday.

Kelceā€™s blast may give him a leg up heading into this weekendā€™s celebrity tournament, as this serves as the last offseason activity before training camp gets underway next week. Mahomes told 810 Sports Radio on Thursday that if he didn’t beat Kelce, he couldn’t go back to training camp.

The star quarterback will need to pick up his game with the 34th edition of the American Century Championship kicking off on Friday, July 14 and continuing throughout the weekend.

Watch: Titans’ Malik Willis putting in work during break before camp

Titans QB Malik Willis remains hard at work during the offseason break before training camp.

While the Tennessee Titans and the rest of the NFL are on a “break” before training camp begins later this month, quarterback Malik Willis and wide receiver Mason Kinsey remain hard at work, as do many players.

Willis, who is coming off a rough rookie campaign and is entering his second season in the NFL, currently figures to be on the roster bubble after the team drafted Will Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft.

By all accounts, the Liberty product has been outperforming Levis thus far, but doing that while in shorts and a t-shirt during the offseason program is hardly confirmation that Willis is locked into the backup job behind Ryan Tannehill.

Instead, Willis must keep the momentum going during training camp and the preseason and continue to outplay Levis if he wants the No. 2 job and a spot on the roster. Failure to do that could leave Willis among the final cuts.

Here’s the video of Willis throwing to Kinsey recently. It was originally posted to Kinsey’s Instagram story.

In our quarterbacks preview for training camp, Willis beats out Levis for the No. 2 job and secures his spot on the roster. We’ll see if that comes to fruition once Tennessee makes its final cuts on August 29.

Rivalry between Raiders’ Maxx Crosby, Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes shown in ‘Quarterback’ docuseries

Netflix “Quarterback” docuseries to go deeper into rivalry between #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and #Raiders DE Maxx Crosby.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

We’re rapidly approaching the premiere of the new Netflix “Quarterback” docuseries, which follows Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins and former Atlanta Falcons QB Marcus Mariota through the 2022 NFL season.

In a teaser on the NFL’s Twitter account, Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby was unsuspectingly polled about a relevant topic. An interviewer first asked about his relationship with Mahomes.

“Um, it’s great,” Crosby said.

We then see a clip of Mahomes, who comes face-to-face with Crosby in Arrowhead Stadium last season.

“I’m here all day,” Mahomes repeats, before a profanity-filled tirade from the star quarterback.

“After the games, he always comes up to me, I go up to him,” Crosby said. “But when it’s between the quarters, he knows what time it is and I know what time it is.”

The interviewer then reveals to Crosby that Mahomes was mic’d up for every game during the course of the season. You can see the red rush to Crosby’s face upon the realization of what fans are about to witness on Wednesday.

“Oh yeah,” Crosby said. “I need to see that.”

You can watch all eight episodes of “Quarterback” on Netflix on Wednesday, July 12 beginning at 2:00 a.m. CT.

WATCH: Bulls star Zach LaVine crushes home run in MLB’s celebrity softball game

Bulls star Zach LaVine went yard in a big way during the 2023 MLB All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game.

The MLB has included a star-studded exhibition game as part of All-Star Weekend since 2001. Officially dubbed the “All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game,” this is a chance for former stars and other familiar faces to play a friendly game of softball.

The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is being held in Seattle, Washington, which made Chicago Bulls star and Renton, Washington, native Zach LaVine a perfect candidate to participate.

LaVine did not disappoint. Not only did the high-flyer rob a potential home run, he also found time to catch up with Seattle Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr.

LaVine’s signature moment of the evening, however, was an absolute bomb of a home run. It easily cleared the makeshift fence used for the game and landed on the warning track of T-Mobile Park.
