Tom Brady has funny reaction to question about his future in Instagram Q&A

A question about free agency led to a funny reaction from Tom Brady.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was on a roll during an Instagram Q&A on Wednesday with his followers. He was banging out answers to questions about his diet, his workout routine, his stretching routine (or lack thereof) and his general mindset.

But then a fan got in a question that the NFL world is wondering: What team will Brady play for in the upcoming 2020 NFL season? The Patriots quarterback didn’t respond with a verbal answer. Instead, he made a funny face at the camera and moved on to another question about how much he likes playing in Mexico.

The biggest storyline of the offseason did not come to a resolution over Brady’s Instagram story, unfortunately.

Report: Bill Belichick would ‘prefer’ having Tom Brady with Patriots

Bill Belichick’s approval will play an enormous role in Tom Brady’s free agency decision.

Tom Brady’s much-anticipated free agency decision has created an insane amount of speculation around the NFL.

One of the biggest intricacies in the situation is whether or not Bill Belichick wants him to remain with the New England Patriots. Reports came out in 2017 that Belichick wanted to keep Jimmy Garoppolo over the quarterback who was 40 years old. But, the Patriots stuck with their guy and went to three consecutive Super Bowls — winning two.

So, how does Belichick feel about retaining the same guy who’ll be 43 at the start of the 2020 season?

While joining WEEI’s ‘Dale & Keefe’ show, NBC Sports Boston’s Tom E. Curran shared some insight on Belichick’s feeling toward the situation.

Of course, he wouldn’t be devastated if Brady didn’t return. Belichick has a team to coach, and a quarterback approaching his mid-40’s isn’t ideal for the future of the franchise. But, his approval will play a ginormous factor in Brady’s decision.

Free agency officially begins on March 18 and the Patriots have minimal time to collect some weapons to surround Brady.

Report: Tom Brady, Patriots haven’t sat down for contract negotiations

“Not contractually. They haven’t had negotiations,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said.

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots haven’t yet sat down to discuss contract negotiations, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter joined WEEI’s ‘The Greg Hill Show’ on Wednesday and elaborated on the situation.

“Not contractually. They haven’t had negotiations,” Schefter said. “They haven’t sat down to have the conversation they need to have — ‘Hey, what do you want to do?’ I am sure they are talking generally. Yeah, I am sure. They were at the Super Bowl on Sunday together.”

Brady is hitting free agency for the first time in his career and there are teams interested in the 42 year old quarterback. Because of his short window left in the league, Brady will have to choose wisely and play for a team that’s ready to win right now.

When it comes to the report that New England is willing to pay Brady $30 million a year to stay, Schefter’s not believing it. “I don’t think they can do that, but OK let’s not let facts get in the way here,” he said.

There will be a sense of urgency with the situation and Schefter believes March 1 will be a date to look out for. The Patriots waited too long to make a decision with Rob Gronkowski last season and it left them with one of the worst tight end corps in the league.

“I am just saying if you’re New England, you need to get that answer,” Schefter said. “You can’t repeat at quarterback what happened at tight end last year. At tight end last year Rob Gronkowski announces the eve of the owners meetings in late March he’s retiring. We were two weeks into free agency at that point in time. There’s no other suitable alternatives on the free agent market at tight end and New England really never filled the position all year long. They did the best they could, but there’s nobody like that.”

It’s very possible the Patriots retain their legendary quarterback this offseason, but it’ll take a lot of work from both parties.

Report: Dolphins have no plans to pursue Tom Brady in free agency

The Tom Brady to Miami speculation can be put to an end.

Despite speculation this offseason, the Miami Dolphins won’t be a potential landing spot for Tom Brady.

The 42 year old quarterback has been with the New England Patriots for 20 seasons and the only way he’ll play in the AFC East, is if he remains in Foxborough. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was quick to shut the idea down while speaking with reporters last Friday.

“We’re a team that’s building, and I don’t know why he’d really want to come to the Dolphins,” Ross said. “He’s been one of the fiercest competitors there is and we’re at the stage with the Dolphins trying to really build a team for the future.”

Brady’s looming free agency decision could be revealed within the next two months, but it appears the Patriots will make a strong push to retain him. Brady reportedly just wants more weapons and New England will need to make that happen very quickly before Brady explores his options.

The Dolphins are in good hands with former Patriot Brian Flores as their head coach and they’re poised to get a quarterback with the No. 5 pick in the draft this year. There’s options on the table like Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Jacob Eason.

Brady has an enormous decision to make and Patriots fans will be glad to avoid seeing him twice a year in an opposing jersey.

Bills CB Tre’Davious White would be happy to see Tom Brady leave Patriots

White wants Brady out of the division.

Playing against Tom Brady can take a certain toll on a player. To do it twice a year? That’s a huge challenge. It’s a challenge that Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White has accepted in his first three seasons. And it’s one that he’d be glad to celebrate being over.

“It’s definitely a big deal because he’s been doing it at a high level for that team for a while… For me, I hope he doesn’t go back (to New England),” White told the Athletic’s Jeff Howe when discussing the potential of Brady leaving the Patriots for another team. “For football, it’d be great to see him stay a Patriot and continue to do it that way.”

The 25-year-old understands Brady’s greatness and what it would mean for the game. Of course, it’s unheard of to have a player, especially one as important as Brady, remain in one location with one team for a career spanning 20 seasons. However, it would be beneficial for White and his team to have the quarterback out of the AFC East.

White also doesn’t seem to believe there’s really any truth to the narrative of Brady’s play declining in a significant fashion.

“There’s never a fall-off with Brady,” White told The Athletic. “He’s everything. I think people are so used to him – his standard is set so high that whenever he is a little half under that, they think it’s an off year and they’re panicking. People don’t understand the league changes every year. People change. Stuff changes. Every year is not going to be 100 percent. You can be 97 percent, but that is great. His 97 percent is better than everybody else in the league. He is still the best. Anytime you’ve got to go against him, I guarantee a lot of guys are panicking.”

That’s high praise coming from a guy who, while still young, is considered one of the best up-and-coming cornerbacks in the game. White’s had his issues with the Patriots, including the incident with Rob Gronkowski a few years back. However, those appear to take a backseat when it comes to showing respect to one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game.

Julian Edelman makes funny appeal to Tom Brady on Twitter: ‘Baby come back’

Julian Edelman posted a hilarious meme to Twitter.

Julian Edelman is doing what he can to keep Tom Brady in New England. The Patriots receiver turned himself into a meme on Tuesday to send a message to his quarterback.

Edelman, who caught a career-high 1,117 receiving yards from Brady in 2019, took the boombox scene from “Say Anything,” and applied it to his and Brady’s situation. In the scene, Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) plays the song “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel to Diane Court (Ione Skye) in an effort to keep their relationship alive. It’s Edelman’s silly take on Brady’s looming free agency this offseason.

Edelman clearly doesn’t want Brady to go.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the NFL world was buzzing about Brady’s contract negotiations with the Patriots. Though New England is reportedly willing to offer $30 million per year, Brady and the Patriots have no agreement in place. In fact, the quarterback is interested in delaying his decision to get closer to the new league year in March, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

So how serious is Edelman? Naturally, the post is playful spin on the situation. But it’s also easy to imagine the receiver genuinely doesn’t have interest in playing for another quarterback next season.

ESPN analyst breaks down pitch Raiders could use to lure in Tom Brady

Here’s what the Oakland Raiders’ pitch might look like.

If New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady hits free agency, the pitches will be flowing. NFL teams will wait in line to explain why they are the best landing spot for the six-time Super Bowl champion.

With the Oakland Raiders reportedly preparing their pitch for Brady, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky did his best impression of coach Jon Gruden and general manager Mike Mayock. Here’s what their pitch might looks like.

“If I’m the Raiders, I’m going to go, ‘Come, you make the 12th pick. It’s going to be an offensive skill player and we’ll let you go through this process and pick the receiver that you want,’” Orlovsky said on ESPN’s “Get Up.” “I don’t know if Tom’s great at all that scouting. I would imagine he’s phenomenal at it.”

The Los Angeles Chargers are also a likely suitor for Brady, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. And then there are a number of other obvious options, most of which have to decide between their incumbent starter and Brady. Those teams include the Indianapolis Colts, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tennessee Titans, among others.

Have Tom Brady and the Patriots started posturing for their contract negotiations?

There was big news on Tom Brady this weekend.

Super Bowl Sunday brought buzz around Tom Brady’s impending free agency decision. Finally, there were a few tangible pieces of news.

But first, there was something entirely flimsy (as usual). Brady’s cryptic tweet was reported to have nothing to do with a retirement or free agency announcement. Instead, it was a teaser for a Hulu commercial, and spoofed upon the expectations that it might be such an announcement. While folks puzzled over what Brady’s tweet meant, the photo was just an effort to build the hype for his commercial and an indirect attempt to sell streaming video subscriptions.

But then we got more significant nuggets. The Patriots are willing to pay in excess of $30 million to retain Brady, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. New England will extend itself to keep the quarterback, per NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran. Brady, meanwhile, is looking for a strong supporting cast, and not just a big offer, per Rapoport. If the Patriots’ offer comes up short, there will be teams waiting for Brady to hit free agency. The Las Vegas Raiders are among the teams ready to pounce on Brady, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Chargers will try to make a pitch, per Rapoport. For now, Brady and the Patriots are staying in contact, the quarterback told Westwood One sports radio.

That’s a lot of information packed into one weekend. Let’s break it down.

  1. Ready with a $30-million-per-year offer? The Patriots are apparently trying to stay competitive financially. A contract is defined by how it’s structured, but that sum would almost surely put Brady among the highest-paid quarterbacks. It’s not something we’re accustomed to hearing: Tom Brady, the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. Brady isn’t in that pay bracket because he previously liked to help the team keep cap space for a supporting cast. Will this year be different?
  2. More talent? Brady wants more talent — and he also wants more money. As Brady has seen for the last 20 years, sometimes quarterbacks can’t have both. The Patriots have roughly $40 million in cap space. How much cap space will New England have left if it gives Brady a two-year, $60 million contract?
  3. Teams already waiting in line? The news that L.A. and Las Vegas are interested in entering the Brady sweepstakes is unsurprising. Philip Rivers and the Chargers seem ready to part ways, and Raiders coach Jon Gruden appeared to fatigue on quarterback Derek Carr. There will likely be more openings, perhaps in places like Tennessee and Tampa Bay. It’s Tom Brady, the six-time Super Bowl champion. Most teams will be at least interested.

It’s unclear when Brady and the Patriots will sit down to talk about the contract and a potential extension. However, Brady could make his decision just before or during free agency, if he must, per Rapoport. The new league year starts on March 18, which is when Brady could sign with another team. He can begin negotiations with other teams on March 16 during the legal tampering period.

In the meantime, the Patriots have exclusive negotiation rights to Brady. The relationship between Brady, Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft and the Patriots may grow tense amid this long wait.

Tom Brady shares epic Instagram photo with almost all of his ‘idols’

Tom Brady experienced a moment he’ll never forget before Super Bowl LIV.

Tom Brady experienced a moment he’ll never forget before Super Bowl LIV.

Brady, along with the rest of the NFL 100 All-Time Team, was celebrated before the game. He took a photo alongside Brett Favre, John Elway, Roger Staubach, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana and Dan Marino — all of which are legends in their own rights.

“It’s not often you get to meet your idols. In this picture, I was lucky enough to be with almost all of them. I am so thankful for them inspiring me to be the best I could be! This is truly my dream, coming true,” Brady said in an Instagram post.

Brady joined Jim Gray on Westwood One Radio during halftime of the game and reflected on the moment.

“That (photo) is being hung up in my office because I said it is not often that you get to meet your idol and I happened to be around just about every one of them there at one time, in one picture,” Brady said. “Steve Young was another one that could just as easily been up there with us. That would have kind of made it all complete, but just again, very, very cool moment for me in my life. I have been a part of some really great ones, and to stand there with all the other incredible athletes, players who have performed so well for such long periods of time in the NFL, is one of the coolest moments I have ever experienced.”

It was a pretty cool day for me personally, just to be there and take in the energy of the stadium, but to see the guys who I have looked up to for so long. In the pregame, it was very surreal standing in a room with the greatest players in the history of the NFL. It was a great celebration and obviously when the game kicked off, I think it has lived up to its billing.”

Brady, 42, is preparing for his first stint in free agency and his future team is still up in the air for 2020.

Finally, Tom Brady’s cryptic photo on social media makes sense

Tom Brady’s cryptic photo on social media finally makes sense.

Tom Brady’s cryptic photo on social media finally makes sense.

There was speculation that he was retiring, leaving the New England Patriots for another team or even doing a tribute for Kobe Bryant. Even though it’s possible he leaves for another team still, the other two options proved to be false.

It was a 45 second ad for Hulu, but he began it by instilling some fear into his fans.

“They say all good things come to an end. That the best just know when to walk away. So to my teammates, my family and most of all, my fans, you deserve to hear this from me.”

He ended it by saying, ““I’m not going anywhere.”

It still leaves many questions on the table for his future team, but he completely shuts down the idea of retirement. Brady, who’ll be 43 years old next season, will continue to play the game he’s dominated for two decades.
