MLB: A. J. Pollock traded from Dodgers to White Sox

South Side Irish, indeed!

Much has been made this off-season about the Chicago White Sox needing to address whatever it is they have going on in right field.  That was finally the case on Friday when the Southsiders dealt reliever Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for A. J. Pollock.

Pollock, a former Notre Dame star, spent the last three seasons with the Dodgers after signing a four-year deal in 2019.  With them he was a member of their 2020 World Series championship and is coming off one of his better seasons where he hit .297 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI.  He is expected to play right field for the White Sox despite playing just six games in right field during his career.  Being an above average center fielder during his career should erase most concern about that move, however.

Pollock hit 17 home runs in three seasons at Notre Dame from 2007-2009.

Another big time visitor for Notre Dame confirms plans for this weekend

The Irish bring in yet another very impressive athlete

The Irish are keeping up with recruiting by bringing in some of the most talented players across the country to check out some of their spring practices. Some of the commits have been steadily heading to South Bend, while others, most notably Dante Moore have been stopping by for visits.

You can add another name to the list of visitors as Aneyas Williams announced that he will be visiting Notre Dame this coming Saturday, April second. The Missouri 2024 athlete could end up playing either running back or wide receiver, his five-foot-eleven-inch and 200-pound frame allows him to be extremely versatile.

Williams has been visiting multiple schools these past few weeks, having already trekked out to Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri. Although he currently does not hold an offer from the Irish, with this visit that could be in the cards this weekend.

CBS Sports latest NFL Mock Draft has Notre Dame S Hamilton falling

The Irish star isn’t projected as high as he once was

The NFL is just under a month away and many teams have already started to organize their draft boards. Many outlets are coming up with their mock drafts as well which is what CBS Sports did on Wednesday.

For the lone Notre Dame player that has a chance to get drafted in the first round, Chris Trapasso was not kind to former Irish safety Kyle Hamilton. Previously the star defensive back was no lower than third in the majority of precisions, but if Trapasso is correct, Hamilton will fall down to 10th overall and end up in New York with the Jets.

The rationale was that after Hamilton “ran in the 4.70s at his pro day” that his stock is dropping among NFL team’s boards. That has yet to be determined as the NFL Draft is set to commence April 28th and finish on the 30th.

Report: 5-Star QB Moore’s visit to Notre Dame goes well

Here’s to hoping an official visit is booked soon

The Irish hosted Michigan quarterback Dante Moore this past weekend for an unofficial visit and it seems like the visit went very well. In a report by Allen Trieu of 247Sports, Moore’s father Otha broke down his son’s visit to South Bend.

They welcomed us with open arms as usual. The things that stood out were the campus and the new regime… You can see the players are behind (head coach Marcus Freeman) 100 percent. He has made some great hires with Al Washington and bringing the offensive line coach (Harry Hiestand) back

It seems like the Moore family had a great visit but there were two key points that also came out of Trieu’s report, that Dante will be taking official visits to “some places that we haven’t been maybe” and he will enroll in January.

There was no confirmation that Moore would return for an official visit, which looks to be key in eventually getting his coveted signature during the early signing period.

The streak is over, Notre Dame Baseball gets back in win column

That was a long two weeks

It has been a very difficult two weeks for the Irish baseball team. First getting swept at Louisville, having their midweek game against Northwestern postponed, then losing the series opener to Virginia Tech and having the weather cancel the remainder of the series. Notre Dame last won a game on March 15th and two weeks from that date, their four-game losing streak is finally over.

The bats were hot and the pitching was very solid, as the Irish defeated Northern Illinois, 11-2 at Frank Eck Stadium. It must have been a huge weight off the shoulders of the Irish, finally getting a chance to celebrate a win again.

Although starter Liam Simon only went 2 and 2/3 innings, the did enough to set the tone for the pitching staff. He allowed the only runs of the game, one unearned, as the remaining pitchers (Roman Kimball, Jack Findlay, Radek Birkholz and Jackson Dennies) each saw their outings end without giving up a run.

Offensively it was Jared Miller and Zach Prajzner leading the charge, both driving in two runs each with Prajzner topping the team with three hits on the day. The Irish will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Tallahassee to face off against Florida State in a three-game set that begins Friday night.

Rivals: Notre Dame is recruiting Louisiana ‘24 linebacker more than others

The Irish have turned up the heat early with this linebacker

The Irish are in the mix for so many elite talents in the 2023 and 2024 class, it’s really hard to keep track of them. It seems like every day another prospect pops up on the radar and Notre Dame is in the mix. This is a credit to Marcus Freeman, changing the style when he arrived on campus and elevating it when he took over as the head coach.

In a report by Rivals at their camp series in Louisiana, “Notre Dame is recruiting the 2024 three-star linebacker (Kolaj Corbin) from Destrehan the hardest.” The Irish still have competition for Corbin’s verbal pledge, as they noted that Purdue, Florida State, Michigan, Ole Miss and Houston are all involved in his recruitment.

Corbin is looking to visit South Bend during the summer, so we will get a much better handle on where his recruitment is headed in the coming months.

Dates and times for spring games that interest Notre Dame

New coaches and potential stars will be previewed this spring

For many teams spring practice has already commenced and it’s typically a preview of what is to come in the fall. Position battles are typically won during this time, not necessarily during fall camp. Players will show their improvements without the weekly game plans going into effect, the coaches are able to break down each one of their practices much more meticulously. It’s not just about the Blue and Gold game for Notre Dame, on April 23rd at 1pm EST, it’s about what their opponents will do as well. Here is a list of their notable 2022 opponents and their spring game times and networks. (BYU would be on this list but due to a lack of linemen, they will not have a spring game.)

Illinois star 2024 wide receiver will visit Notre Dame this weekend

The Irish are getting an early visit with this rising star

The Irish are really turning up the recruiting heat for multiple classes. As the news pours in today with the arrival of 2023 five-star quarterback Dante Moore on campus there was another development that should not go unnoticed.

This afternoon 2024 wide receiver Cam Williams made an announcement that he will be heading east this coming weekend to visit Marcus Freeman and take a look around campus. I have known Williams since his freshman year in high school and knew that he was going to be a big time player as he continued to get older.

Williams has been taking visits to many of the major Midwest powers, recently visiting Wisconsin and Michigan.

Knowing this young man, I know first hand his work ethic, character and drive are top notch. Williams is going to be one of the best receiving prospects in his class and hopefully ends up in Blue and Gold.

Notre Dame doesn’t get another chance to break losing streak vs Virginia Tech

Gotta love Midwestern spring weather

Midwest weather in March is brutal. One day it can be a beautiful 60 degrees with plenty of sunshine, only to tease actual nice spring weather and the harsh climates return to remind us that the days of t-shirts and shorts are still not close for us to enjoy.

That terrible Midwest weather reared it’s ugly head again this weekend, as the cold and rain has put an early end to Notre Dame’s home series against Virginia Tech. Saturday and Sunday’s contests have been canceled, meaning that the Irish will have to wait until Tuesday to break their four-game losing streak.

Unfortunately the Irish did not break that losing streak Friday afternoon, all of which have come at the hands of ACC foes. The Link Jarrett’s team will hope the weather cooperates on Tuesday, as they play host to Northern Illinois.

Watch: Notre Dame safety Hamilton believes he’s the best player in NFL Draft

He probably isn’t wrong…

As the NFL Draft process continues, teams will make their evaluations on specific players and their drafts boards will start to sort themselves out. For many organizations, former Notre Dame star safety Kyle Hamilton will be near the top of many teams boards.

Although only a few teams will have the chance to select Hamilton, he believes that he’s the best player in the draft. It’s not a cocky statement that the safety made, it’s much more of a confident one. That is something that you need to be a successful athlete, or really at anything you do.

For Hamilton, he might be correct, only time will tell if he turns out to be the best player in the draft. We are all excited to see where Hamilton gets the opportunity to play next.
