The Athletic’s Alec Lewis did a seven round mock draft for the Minnesota Vikings. Tyler Forness took a look at every pick and broke it down.
The Minnesota Vikings are in a very unique and fun position heading into the 2024 NFL draft. They don’t just need a quarterback of the future, but the defense needs more talent to keep up their growth under defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
Here at Vikings Wire, we have done multiple seven-round mock drafts for the Vikings taking a look at different scenarios. Teams will do the same thing leading up to April’s annual selection meeting. We also will take a look at how others in the industry view the Vikings in how they will approach the NFL draft.
The Athletic’s Alec Lewis wrote up a seven-round mock draft released on Tuesday. Let’s take a look at what he has the Vikings doing.
Breaking down the draft hauls around the NFC North in the latest 3-round mock from NFL.com’s Chad Reuter
The NFL season is over, mock draft season is in full effect now.
PFF and Pro Football Network have been pushing them all out all season long, now it is time for NFL media to step up to the plate. The latest piece they have for draft fans to digest is a three-round mock draft written by Chad Reuter.
In the mock, the NFC North makes 15 picks led by the Packers six. They made a trade back with the Chiefs in round one to acquire more picks while the Vikings traded up and have just two picks. As for the Lions, they make four picks all of which would be home runs.
Should the Minnesota Vikings take J.J. McCarthy as QB off the board? Is he worthy of that spot? Purple Daily on draft discusses.
The offseason is officially underway for all 32 teams and the Minnesota Vikings are still trying to figure out who their quarterback is. Luckily for them, there are multiple quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL draft class who are potential options.
The question remains: is McCarthy worthy of being QB3 in the NFL draft? It’s an interesting question to parse through, especially with his stock set to rise throughout the process, especially with the scouting combine coming up.
To finish the show, the crew goes through a mock draft using the Pro Football Focus simulator. They go through the process of trading up for a quarterback. Is it a path the Vikings should consider?
All of that and more on the latest episode of Purple Daily on Draft, dropping every Monday afternoon on thePurple Daily YouTube channel.
Over the last week, draft analysts sent the Minnesota Vikings 11 different players across 26 mock drafts, including USC QB Caleb Williams.
Mock draft season is upon us and that means our mock draft roundup is back!
What we do every week is track the mainstream outlets mock drafts and aggregate how many times a player gets selected. Last season, we tallied up 545 mock drafts and that included a whopping 54 different players. With the Minnesota Vikings set to pick 11th overall, there will be a lot of discussions surrounding the quarterbacks in this draft along with trading up.
We will track them and try to determine trends and patterns, along with giving my own analysis on how they could fit with the Vikings.
The Browns could get aggressive to add a dynamic playmaker
On Thursday night at the NFL Honors members of the Cleveland Browns cleaned up winning all four awards that they were nominated for. They now turn their attention toward free agency and the 2024 NFL draft.
General manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski have started on the journey to improve in 2024 by first changing up the offensive coaching staff in hopes of becoming more dynamic and productive next year.
They have to add dynamic playmakers on the offensive side of the ball to get more explosive and vertical if they take the next step toward winning a championship. We have seen Berry get aggressive in adding playmakers before could this draft be one where he moves up and takes one of the talented wide receivers in this loaded class?
The foundation for success has been laid in Cleveland and things are better than they have been since the return adding a little more vertically to the offense could be what puts them over the top.
In a mock draft based on her analytics model, NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund sends the Vikings an edge rusher
With mock draft season in full effect, some mock drafts will be more unorthodox than others, whether through methodology or the picks themselves. The NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund chose to use a more analytics-based approach and decide what picks would be best for success in the upcoming season.
Turner’s burst ranks among the top 20 percent of edge prospects in my 10-season sample. He doesn’t lose speed/velocity when traveling in a non-straight line, which means his pressures cause disruption more frequently (he posted 10 sacks last season, up from four as a sophomore). I’m pretty sure defensive coordinator Brian Flores would give GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah a hand-written thank-you note if Turner ends up the choice here.
At 6’4″, 252 pounds, Turner has the perfect size for the edge rusher position. Add in his explosion and ability to string pass-rush moves together, and the Vikings should have a day-one contributor in Turner.
Tyler Forness takes a look at what a draft would look like only taking positions of need
The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of different ways they can go in the NFL draft. There will be some discussion on what needs are most important but the Vikings can address most of them through both free agency and the NFL draft.
Each week throughout the leadup to the NFL draft, I will be doing different seven round mock drafts for the Vikings as a way to explore different scenarios. You never know who might fall to you and how that could cause a ripple effect and being ready for those situations is paramount come draft weekend.
In the second rendition of our seven round mock draft series, what could a draft look like that has the Vikings took players only at position of need?
The Minnesota Vikings take a shot on a franchise QB in the latest mock draft.
As the mock drafts pour in, the options for the Minnesota Vikings continue to grow. For CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso, Minnesota decided to take the next step in the rebuilding process in his latest mock draft.
At pick 11, Minnesota selected Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy to carry them into the next era of Vikings football.
The Vikings go with McCarthy, who has plus arm talent and athleticism, two things the quarterback spot has lacked in Minnesota during the productive Kirk Cousins era.
With the uncertainty around Cousins and his contract, hitting the reset button on a quarterback makes perfect sense. The question that comes into play is if McCarthy is ready to take on that role. McCarthy is known best for his 22-1 record as a starter for the Wolverines, but there are questions about how much his play contributed to the success.
Out of all the quarterbacks in this draft, McCarthy may be the most dependent upon the situation he ends up in. He has the athleticism and arm talent to be a good quarterback in the NFL, but he needs time to develop to become the best version of himself.
If he were to become a Viking, the best thing for him would be to sit behind a veteran quarterback. Whether that veteran is Cousins remains to be seen, but if Minnesota is spending top-tier draft capital on a quarterback who won’t be ready for another year, there’s a good chance that Cousins is looking elsewhere.
The Minnesota Vikings get some much-needed secondary help in latest mock draft. Is it the right choice?
As the off-season approaches, the amount of mock drafts that fans can consume will rise exponentially. With the Super Bowl coming up and the NFL combine just around the corner, Pro Football Network’s Lorenzo Reyna dropped his pre-Super Bowl mock draft.
The Vikings may become torn between Terrion Arnold or Cooper DeJean at No. 11.
PFN NFL Insider Adam Caplan recently spoke with a “high-level scouting source” who told him DeJean is a top-five talent. DeJean is a fleet-footed option as a gap closer with his speed and click-and-close ability. He’s also shown a knack for being a processor in knowing when to jump on routes and adjust his hip direction.
DeJean may be one of the best athletes in this upcoming draft, but there are some concerns about his ability in straight-man coverage.
Luckily for DeJean, the unorthodox approach for defensive coordinator Brian Flores won’t leave him on traditional islands too often where he could be in a possibly treacherous situation. Add to that his versatility to play both inside and outside, and the Vikings have a day-one contributor in the secondary.
While the Browns do not have any first round picks, they have done an excellent job of landing mid-round talents that have become immediate contributors. Cornerback Martin Emerson Jr., defensive end Alex Wright, offensive tackle Dawand Jones, and cornerback Cameron Mitchell all fit the bill here.
In their last year without a first rounder, general manager Andrew Berry and his team will look to do more of the same this year.
Worthy is a pretty frequent target for the Browns to land in these mock draft exercises as they will look to upgrade their pedestrian wide receiver room this offseason. The explosive Longhorn wideout accumulated over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns this season.
Vaki is an intriguing prospect because not only does he play safety and nickel, but he also took running back snaps with the Utes in 2023. This past season, Vaki racked up 51 tackles, 8.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, two sacks, two passes defended, and one interception while lining up on the defensive side of the ball. He added another 520 yards and five touchdowns lining up in the backfield on the offensive side of the ball as well.
