Dolphins activate G Isaiah Wynn off IR, waive veteran OL

The Dolphins swapped out offensive linemen on the active roster Monday.

The Miami Dolphins officially added guard Isaiah Wynn back into the fold Monday, activating the veteran offensive lineman off the injured reserve.

To make room on the 53-man roster, the Dolphins waived sixth-year veteran offensive lineman Lester Cotton, who has been with the team since 2022.

Wynn, 28, is a former New England Patriots first-round pick who joined the Dolphins on a one-year deal in 2023. He earned starting left guard duties, but suffered a season-ending quad injury in his seventh game with Miami.

The Dolphins re-signed Wynn in the 2024 offseason to another one-year deal, but he’s been unavailable as he continued to rehab his quad injury. Last week, Dolphins offensive line coach Butch Barry said the team has been pleased with the progress Robert Jones has made and will stick with him as the starter instead of Wynn.

Cotton, 28, began his NFL career with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 and was signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad during the 2022 season. If he clears waivers this week, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Cotton rejoins the Miami practice squad.

Dolphins estimate 6 players unable to practice Monday

The Dolphins didn’t hold a practice Monday, but they estimated that six players would’ve been missing if they had.

The Miami Dolphins didn’t hold a practice Monday, but they estimated that six players would’ve been missing if they had.

Earlier in the day, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. and cornerback Kendall Fuller are both unlikely to play in the team’s Thanksgiving evening game against the Green Bay Packers.

Along with that duo, the Dolphins estimated that two veterans — defensive lineman Calais Campbell and safety Jordan Poyer — would’ve been given the day off for rest. The other two players, offensive tackle Terron Armstead and outside linebacker Tyus Bowser, are dealing with knee injuries.

Monday participation (estimated)

DNP

  • OT Terron Armstead (knee)
  • OLB Tyus Bowser (knee/calf)
  • DT Calais Campbell (rest)
  • CB Kendall Fuller (concussion)
  • S Jordan Poyer (rest)
  • LB Anthony Walker Jr. (hamstring)

Limited

  • WR Tyreek Hill (wrist)
  • FB Alec Ingold (calf)
  • DT Benito Jones (shoulder)

The most notable name on the Packers’ injury report Monday was wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who suffered a concussion in the team’s Week 12 win against the San Francisco 49ers. Doubs is the Packers’ second leading receiver through 11 games.

2 Dolphins defensive starters unlikely to play vs. Packers in Week 13

The Dolphins expect to be without a pair of defensive starters Thursday, but the good news is they probably won’t be out long.

The Miami Dolphins expect to be without linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. and cornerback Kendall Fuller for a Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday.

While both are big losses for the Miami defense, the team may not be without the pair of starters much longer.

Walker, 29, injured his hamstring on a play Sunday without making any contact with a New England Patriots player. While he exited the game and didn’t return, McDaniel said tests have shown the injury isn’t too serious and he likely won’t miss extensive time.

But with Walker expected to miss at least one game, the Dolphins will presumably turn to former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson to take a spot in the starting lineup. Dodson, who was claimed off waivers two weeks ago, replaced Walker in the lineup Sunday and finished with an interception in the Week 12 win.

Fuller, 29, has been out of action since suffering a concussion — his second of the 2024 season — in a Week 10 win against the Los Angeles Rams. In his absence, the Dolphins have mostly relied on undrafted rookie Storm Duck to fill his place.

Dolphins WR says he ‘needs a break’ from his signature touchdown dance

The penguin waddle is on hiatus.

When Jaylen Waddle scored a touchdown Sunday against the New England Patriots, he changed up his usual celebration.

Instead of his signature penguin waddle, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver busted out a much different touchdown dance.

After the game, Waddle told reporters that they probably won’t see his waddle any time soon.

“It was getting like out of hand,” Waddle said. “When I go out in public, people be trying to tell me to do it, so it’s just like, eh. … I don’t know if [I’m] retiring [it]. I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s retiring. It needs a break for a little minute.”

But even though Waddle isn’t doing the dance anymore, he doesn’t mind that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross was doing it in the owner’s box Sunday.

“Mr. Ross be hitting it, though,” Waddle said. “He be hitting it.”

Waddle finished Sunday with eight receptions for 144 yards — the second highest yardage total of his career.

Tua Tagovailoa ‘excited to kill narratives’ at frigid Lambeau Field

A cold night at Lambeau Field? “Bring it on,” says Tua Tagovailoa.

When the Miami Dolphins head to Wisconsin for a Thanksgiving game against the Green Bay Packers, the weather forecasts project an unsurprisingly chilly night at Lambeau Field.

According to The Weather Channel, the Dolphins should expect the temperature to be in the 20s at kickoff with wind gusts that’ll make it feel even colder. Tua Tagovailoa says he’s ready for the challenge.

“I’m excited to kill narratives, so let’s go. Bring it on,” Tagovailoa said Sunday after a 34-19 win against the New England Patriots. “We’ll enjoy this win, but this next one is going to be big for us, and we’re excited to go down to Green Bay and show everybody on primetime what we can do.”

The Dolphins have earned a reputation for high octane offense in the South Florida sunshine, but an inability to keep it firing on all cylinders it in the cold. Last season, Miami led the NFL in offensive yardage and was second in scoring, but their year came to an end with a 26-7 playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in freezing weather.

“Cold weather game. It’s going to be real football weather,” Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle said of the upcoming game in Green Bay. “They’re bringing their best. We’re bringing our best. Thursday night football, man, that’s what it’s all about.”

The Dolphins are riding a three-game win streak that has pulled them from a 2-6 start to the year into contention for a spot in the playoffs. But the Packers improved to 8-3 on Sunday with a blowout win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Failures in cold weather isn’t the only narrative the Dolphins will have to shake. The team also has a reputation for winning against subpar opponents, but failing to beat contenders.

Last season, the Dolphins were 10-1 against teams that finished with a losing record and 1-5 against opponents that ended the year above .500. So far in 2024, the 5-5 Los Angeles Rams are the only team the Dolphins beat that have more than three wins.

Miami is trying its best to erase a rough start to the season and the team has found its groove in the last couple weeks. But Thursday will say a lot about whether or not the team has actually turned a corner.

Dolphins player of the game, Week 12: WR Jaylen Waddle

Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle put together one of the best performances of his career in a 34-15 win against New England.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle put together a signature performance against the New England Patriots.

The fourth-year receiver recorded eight receptions for 144 yards — the second highest total of his career — and a touchdown in a 34-15 win for the Dolphins.

Waddle’s 23-yard touchdown gave the Dolphins a 31-point lead, effectively putting the game out of reach, despite a late 15-point surge by New England in the fourth quarter.

It was without a doubt Waddle’s best game of 2024 with the receiver recording season-highs in receptions and yards. With Tyreek Hill still dealing with a wrist injury, the Dolphins have needed Waddle to step up in a big way. Prior to Sunday, his only 100-yard performance came in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

His Week 12 performance showed that he has the ability to take over a game with momentum-changing plays. Waddle recorded receptions that picked up 29 and 24 yards, in addition to his 23-yard touchdown. Six of Waddle’s eight receptions resulted in a first down and a seventh was a touchdown.

Since selecting Waddle in the 2021 NFL draft, the Dolphins are now 9-3 in games when Waddle records at least 100 yards. If he can continue to perform at a high level in addition to Hill and De’Von Achane’s contributions, it will be very difficult for the rest of the AFC to keep the Dolphins out of the playoffs.

NFL playoff picture, Week 12: Dolphins move one spot closer

The Dolphins are just one spot out of the AFC playoff field after their third straight win.

The Miami Dolphins are now just one spot out of the AFC playoff picture after earning a third consecutive win.

Miami cruised to a 34-15 victory against the New England Patriots on Sunday and got a bit of help elsewhere in Week 12. Thanks to a 24-6 win for the Detroit Lions against the Indianapolis Colts, the Dolphins slid up to eighth place in the AFC.

But the Las Vegas Raiders were unable to beat the Denver Broncos, which would’ve put the Dolphins in even better shape heading into their Thanksgiving matchup against the Green Bay Packers. On Monday, Miami inched a game closer to the Los Angeles Chargers when they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

With Week 12 in the books, here’s how the AFC standings stack up:

  1. Kansas City Chiefs: 10-1 (30-27 win vs. Panthers)
  2. Buffalo Bills: 9-2 (bye)
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers: 8-3 (24-19 loss vs. Browns)
  4. Houston Texans: 7-5 (32-27 loss vs. Titans)
  5. Baltimore Ravens: 8-4 (30-23 win vs. Chargers)
  6. Los Angeles Chargers: 7-4 (30-23 loss vs. Ravens)
  7. Denver Broncos: 7-5 (29-19 win vs. Raiders)
  • Miami Dolphins: 5-6 (34-15 win vs. Patriots)
  • Indianapolis Colts: 5-7 (24-6 loss vs. Lions)
  • Cincinnati Bengals: 4-7 (bye)

The six AFC teams not listed all have at least eight losses.

The Dolphins will have their left tackle and fullback in the lineup Sunday against the Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins will have left tackle Terron Armstead and fullback Alec Ingold in the lineup Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Both players were listed as questionable for the contest. Armstead played against the Las Vegas Raiders after missing the week’s practices and missed all three practices again this week.

Ingold missed the Dolphins’ last two games due to a calf injury.

With kickoff 90 minutes away, here are the players ruled out by each team for Sunday:

Dolphins inactives

  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr.
  • CB Ethan Bonner
  • CB Kendall Fuller
  • LB Mohamed Kamara
  • OL Andrew Meyer
  • TE Jack Stoll
  • WR Dee Eskridge

Patriots inactives

  • DE Titus Leo
  • QB Joe Milton (3rd quarterback)
  • WR K.J. Osborn

Dolphins vs. Patriots broadcast map: Where will the game be on TV?

Spero Dedes and Adam Archuleta will be on the call Sunday when the Dolphins take on the Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins are looking to extend their win streak to three Sunday when they host the New England Patriots at Hard Rock Stadium.

The rematch between the AFC East rivals comes seven weeks after the Dolphins managed to escape Foxborough with a win by a literal inch. But plenty has changed since then. The Patriots handed the reins to rookie Drake Maye, who has been impressive in his first NFL starts. Miami has Tua Tagovailoa back in the lineup and the offense has churned back to life.

Coverage will be provided by CBS and in-market fans can stream the Dolphins’ Week 12 game on fuboTV. Spero Dedes will be on play-by-play coverage in the booth with Adam Archuleta providing analysis.

Fans in the yellow area on the map below will have the Dolphins vs. Patriots game on their local CBS station at 1 p.m. ET. Via 506sports.com:

Those who aren’t in an area highlighted yellow will need NFL Sunday Ticket, now offered by YouTube, to watch the Dolphins as an out-of-market game.

Terron Armstead, 3 other Dolphins questionable for Week 12 vs. Patriots

The Dolphins only ruled out one player, but have four listed as questionable for Sunday against the Patriots.

The Miami Dolphins ruled out cornerback Kendall Fuller, who suffered his second concussion of the season in a win against the Los Angeles Rams two weeks ago, and the team listed four players as questionable for Week 11.

Starting left tackle Terron Armstead didn’t practice at all this week, but he didn’t last week either and still managed to play against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“It’s very, very rare that left tackles can feel comfortable playing in a game without at least two of the three days. He’s proven to be the exception,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said of Armstead on Friday. “So when we can, we try to enhance his ability to play on game day by giving him rest when needed. So he’s working and hoping to have him, but we’ll see how today goes.”
