Texas A&M LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the Walter Camp All-American Team

Texas A&M junior LB Edgerrin Cooper is named to the Walter Camp All-American Team.

Edgerrin Cooper went on a tear this season and was the best Linebacker in the SEC and possibly the nation. He’s been racking up the accolades all year long and there might be a few more before Bowl season is over.

Below is a brief history of the foundation:

This is the 134th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team, the nation’s oldest college football All-America team.  Twenty-five players were selected to the first team by the 131 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.  In addition, 25 players were selected to the Second Team.

Congratulations to Cooper on another well-deserved honor.

Below, you can see the stats through 12 games:

  • 84 Tackles
  • 17 Tackles for Loss (Led the SEC)
  • 8 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles

The 2023 Walter Camp All-Americans will be honored at the Foundation’s annual Awards Weekend on March 15-16, 2024, in New Haven.

‘The presence of the blessing does not mean the absence of the work’ Buzz Williams speaks ahead of Texas A&M vs. Memphis

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say during the weekly presser

The Aggie Basketball team will have its second home game in a row, and they are hosting a very impressive Memphis team on Sunday.

Coach Buzz Williams sat down to preview the matchup and spoke glowingly of the Tigers. They are coached by a talented head coach in Penny Hardaway and have an experienced team with four 1,000-point scorers.

“…Ultra talented and their team is one of the best teams in regard to talent that has been at Reed Arena in a long time. they have four 1,000 Point scorers on their team they’re unbelievable…. I mean they beat Missouri at Missouri by 15 in the first week of
the season….”

The full 2024 schedule for the Texas A&M Baseball team has been released

The Aggie baseball team now knows the date and who they will be playing in 2024.

As we enter year three of Coach Jim Scholssnagle, expectations are at an all-time high for Aggie baseball. He is somewhat a victim of his own success as the 2022 team reached the College World Series in his first year and knocked off arch-rival the Texas Longhorns.

While last season was not horrible, it was sometimes marred with inconsistent pitching and spotty batting. Coach Scholss spent the offseason aggressively bringing in talent through recruiting, the transfer portal, and the coaching staff.

Two of the more intriguing additions this offseason were two-way player Braden Montgomery and talented pitching coach Max Weiner. Montgomery transferred in from Stanford as a top pitcher and outfielder, named D1 baseball’s top transfer in the portal. Weiner is regarded as one of the top young pitching coaches who is known for his engaging coaching style and has been praised by the pitchers on the team.

We look forward to seeing an improved Aggie squad on opening night at Olsen Field in February.

Texas A&M WR Ainias Smith will enter the 2024 NFL Draft

Ainias Smith’s college career will come to an end as he declares for the 2024 NFL draft.

Today officially marks the end of an exciting era in Texas A&M football. Senior wide receiver Ainias Smith announced via social media that he will be entering the NFL draft.

There was some question after his season-ending injury if Smith would rehab and, in the draft, or return for another season. Thankfully, for the team and staff the one we call Sub-0 returned and had a stellar season during a trying time period. His leadership and toughness were qualities they will miss in the receiver room next year as the staff will look to fill that void.

Leading the Aggies in receiving during the 2023 season with 53 receptions, 795 yards, and two touchdowns, Smith still possessed one more year of collegiate eligibility due to his 2020 injury coupled with the 2020 Covid-inflicted season, but decided that his NFL future was imminent.

Smith finishes his incredible Aggie career with 2,812 yards and 23 touchdowns from scrimmage, and is ranked seventh in Texas A&M history in receiving yards (2,407).

We wish Ainias the best, and we can’t wait to watch him take the NFL by storm.

Men’s basketball second half collapse leads to loss over Minnesota

Somehow, someway, Nebraska gave it away.

The Huskers entered halftime up by 15 points over Minnesota. Somehow, someway, Nebraska gave it away. The Golden Gophers stormed back, doubling their second-half points scored compared to the Huskers, resulting in a 76-65 loss for Nebraska.

Foul trouble played a key role in the Huskers’ downfall, drawing 21 in total, leading to 18 free throws made by Minnesota. The rest of the stats between Nebraska and the Golden Gophers nearly mirrored one another.

The Huskers went 24-of-53 in field goal shooting, while Minnesota went 25-of-53. Nebraska landed five of its 18 total 3-pointers attempted, while the Golden Gophers landed eight-of-25. Both teams tied in total rebounds, with each side hauling in 32 on the night.

Brice Williams finished as the top scorer for the Huskers, dropping 18 points in the loss. Jamarques Lawrence scored a season-high 16 points and led the team in rebounds with seven. Juwan Gary rounded out the trio of Nebraska players to score double-digit points, finishing the game with 11.

The Huskers fall to 7-2 on the season and return home to host Michigan State on Sunday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

‘Being us was the best thing for us tonight ‘ Everything the players had to say after the home victory over DePaul

Here’s what Texas A&M guards Manny Obaseki & Jace Carter had to say after the Aggies’ home victory over DePaul

After a long road stint, the Aggies returned home to face the DePaul Tigers and had themselves a night. They shot lights out for most of the game and over 60% in the 1st half alone.

With Tyrece Radford currently not on the court or the Aggies, they have been trying to find a way to replace his production, and Manny Obaskei and Jace Carter came up big tonight. They combined for a total of 24 points and five three-pointers.

Transfer Jace Carter has been in a shooting rut to start the season and was finally able to see a few of his three-pointers drop today. Both Obaskei and Carter spoke about how hard he’s been working and the confidence the team has in him:

“It brings a lot of joy to me to see everybody eating. I was so happy for Jace, he’s been working every day. That’s what he does. Everybody’s been working.” – Manny Obaskei

“My teammates, they instill so much confidence in me. They tell me to keep shooting.” – Jace Carter

Post Game Recap: No. 21 Texas A&M defeats DePaul 89-64 at Reed

The Aggies extend their home winning streak to 14 as the run the Blue Demons of the court in big win

No. 21 Texas A&M (7-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in defeat over the DePaul Blue Demons (1-7) on Wednesday night.

Outside of the first three minutes at the start of this game, the score was never close in the first half. The week off after only scoring 47 points on the road against Virginia was much needed and had the Aggies looking incredibly fresh. The Aggies had been playing pretty well, but the one thing that has been missing is the three-point shot. Well, today, A&M was on fire to start the game. As a team, they shot a blistering 61% on 11-18 shooting from the three-point line.

Also, as expected, Wade Taylor was back to form, going 3-4 beyond the arc with 10 points and five assists while splitting time. Henry Coleman, who’s been playing at an All-SEC caliber level, was one rebound away from having a double-double in the first half. DePaul had no answer for anyone as the Aggies took a 62-30 lead into the half.

Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

After a massive first half, the Aggies cooled off a little, but with the game in hand and a significant lead, Buzz Williams was able to get his bench players involved. Everyone who entered the game scored at least two points, and six players had ten or more points.

Overall, it was a solid game for the Aggies and a much-needed win after a rough road stretch. This victory marks the 14th straight home win, and they just missed out on breaking the program’s three-point record, which still stands at 16 threes in a game. I’m sure Buzz would have liked a slightly cleaner second half, but there was not much to complain about after an impressive 89-64 win over a team they were supposed to beat.

Below are the Aggie critical contributors from the game:

Wade Taylor IV: 13 points / six assists

Henry Coleman: 19 points / 3 assists / 9 rebounds

Texas A&M will be back in action at Reed Arena on December 10 at 3 pm CT to face the Memphis Tigers.

No. 21 Texas A&M will return home to face DePaul

The Aggie Basketball team host the DePaul Blue Demon at Reed Arena on Wednesday

No. 21 Texas A&M will face a struggling DePaul team at Reed Arena on Wednesday night at 8 PM CST.

After a tiring road schedule that ended with a sluggish loss against Virginia, the Aggies got a week off and will look to get back to their winning ways. Wade Taylor had a rough outing last game shooting 2-10 with five turnovers for one of his worst games in a very long time. I’m expecting him to bounce back game and for Henry Coleman to continue his All-SEC type of play.

DePaul will attempt to curb their four-game losing streak with their lone victory coming back in the second week of November over South Dakota. The Blue Demons come in as heavy underdogs at +19.5 and are facing a rested and hungry Aggie team.

These two teams have only met twice before with the Aggies winning both of those games. The most recent was an 82-66 rode win last season when Tyrece Radford and Wade Taylor IV combined for 52 points.

PLAYERS to watch:

Wade Taylor IV – 18.6 PTS / 4.4 AST / 2.1 STL

Henry Coleman – 14.4 PTS / 9.1 TOT

Texas A&M TE Jake Johnson will enter the transfer portal

Talented sophomore TE has entered his name into the transfer portal

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering his brother Max Johnson is transferring to North Carolina. It’s a tough loss as Johnson was starting to make some strides, but the Aggie tight end position currently has some decent depth.

We’ll need some time to see how it will shake out, but with Donovan Green returning from his injury, the starting spot should be in good hands.

With their presumed departures, a number of players have now entered the portal thus far, but keep an eye on defensive lineman Walter Nolen, who still has yet to enter after the recent hiring of new defensive line coach Sean Spencer.

The talented sophomore led the tight end group with 24 catches for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. There is a good chance we will join his brother in North Carolina as they will probably want to keep playing together for Max’s potential final college season.

We wish Jake the best and will keep our eye on the portal news to see if Elko brings in a veteran TE to help out the room next year.
