No. 21 Texas A&M will return home to face DePaul

The Aggie Basketball team host the DePaul Blue Demon at Reed Arena on Wednesday

No. 21 Texas A&M will face a struggling DePaul team at Reed Arena on Wednesday night at 8 PM CST.

After a tiring road schedule that ended with a sluggish loss against Virginia, the Aggies got a week off and will look to get back to their winning ways. Wade Taylor had a rough outing last game shooting 2-10 with five turnovers for one of his worst games in a very long time. I’m expecting him to bounce back game and for Henry Coleman to continue his All-SEC type of play.

DePaul will attempt to curb their four-game losing streak with their lone victory coming back in the second week of November over South Dakota. The Blue Demons come in as heavy underdogs at +19.5 and are facing a rested and hungry Aggie team.

These two teams have only met twice before with the Aggies winning both of those games. The most recent was an 82-66 rode win last season when Tyrece Radford and Wade Taylor IV combined for 52 points.

Texas A&M TE Jake Johnson will enter the transfer portal

Talented sophomore TE has entered his name into the transfer portal

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering his brother Max Johnson is transferring to North Carolina. It’s a tough loss as Johnson was starting to make some strides, but the Aggie tight end position currently has some decent depth.

We’ll need some time to see how it will shake out, but with Donovan Green returning from his injury, the starting spot should be in good hands.

With their presumed departures, a number of players have now entered the portal thus far, but keep an eye on defensive lineman Walter Nolen, who still has yet to enter after the recent hiring of new defensive line coach Sean Spencer.

The talented sophomore led the tight end group with 24 catches for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns this season. There is a good chance we will join his brother in North Carolina as they will probably want to keep playing together for Max’s potential final college season.

We wish Jake the best and will keep our eye on the portal news to see if Elko brings in a veteran TE to help out the room next year.

Men’s basketball falls big to No. 15 Creighton 89-60

The 7-0 Huskers faced their first big test of the 2023-2024 season on Sunday afternoon with in-state rival No. 15 Creighton.

The 7-0 Huskers faced their first big test of the 2023-2024 season on Sunday afternoon with in-state rival No. 15 Creighton. Last year, Nebraska upset the Bluejays in Omaha and looked to do it again this year in Lincoln. This did not come to pass as Creighton delivered a hard 89-60 loss to the Huskers.

Though Nebraska battled it out with the Bluejays for a majority of the first half, missed opportunities began piling up, leading to Creighton eventually pulling away. The Huskers went just 24-of-71 in field goal shooting and a season-low 2-of-22 from 3-point range. The Bluejays, on the other hand, blew by Nebraska in shooting, going 32-of-69 from the field and 14-of-40 from beyond the arc.

Keisei Tominaga finished as Nebraska’s only double-digit scorer in the loss, dropping 20 points. This is Tominaga’s second 20-plus point game of the season and fourth double-digit scoring game.

The Huskers will face their first Big Ten opponent on Wednesday as they travel up to Minnesota. Tipoff is set at 8:00 p.m. and can be viewed on the Big Ten Network.

Texas A&M Aggies Transfer Portal Tracker

Transfer Portal season is upon us and you can stay up to date on any moves with our portal tracker

The college football portal opened for the Aggies as soon as Jimbo was given his walking papers. Anytime there is a coaching change the thought is that there will be a lot of work by the new staff to work on keeping who they fit and grabbing who is available.

With the transfer portal essentially being a free agency for college athletes, programs have their work cut out for them. Like any new coach, I expect Mike Elko to try to keep coach Elijah Robinson on staff by any means necessary to help prevent some of the players on the fence from leaving. Also, to use the portal to his advantage as any coach should in this modern era to bring some players that fit what he wants to do.

The Aggies hopefully will be players in the offseason and could use experience at the Lineback position and should also poke around at the cornerback position to add more competition on the back end. As long we don’t see a mass exodus from Aggieland, they are a deep team with only a few positions of need.

We are now past the halfway point of the regular schedule, and playoff pictures are starting to take shape. As we look forward to the rest of the games this week, I’d like to take some time to recognize a few top week 12 performances from Aggies in the NFL.

For the ninth game in a row, defensive lineman Justin Madubuike has got at least half a sack. His 10 sacks on the season put him in the top ten in the NFL and currently has more sacks than Hasson Reddick and Nick Bosa. Here are his stats from Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mike Evans has been on a Hall of Fame pace these past few years, and he crossed another threshold on Sunday. His two touchdowns against the Colts gave him his 90th and 91st of his career. Critics once had a lot to say about the contract the Jacksonville Jaguars gave Christian Kirk a few years ago, but the front office saw something, and it’s paying off. No. 14 Texas A&M falls to Virginia 59-47 in ACC/SEC Challange

A season high in turnovers was too much to overcome as the Aggies drop to 6-2 after loss to Virginia

No. 14 Texas A&M (6-2) battled but fell short of Virginia (6-1) on Wednesday night. A rested Virginia team was too much to handle as a shorthanded Aggie hit the floor with only a few days’ rest following a three-day tournament.

The Aggies started off slow for the second game in a row and had to rely heavily on defense early to stay in the game, falling behind 18-11 with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Luckily for Texas A&M, the Aggies got Henry Coleman back in this game and hit some big shots to keep the game from getting out of hand.

Like clockwork, the Buzz Williams defense turned it up and grabbed every rebound insight halfway through, resulting in a 10-0 run for a 23-20 lead. The lead would only last a few minutes as UVA would hit a big three off a late turnover to take a 27-26 lead.

Similar to the 1st half, the Aggies couldn’t buy a bucket and fell down by 11 points early in the second half. There was a point that Texas A&M had more turnovers than points behind UVA’s stifling defense.

With the Aggies shooting residing in the ice box, the Cavaliers maintained a double-digit lead to around the two-minute mark of the game. Whenever Texas A&M looked like they might make a run, Virginia would squash it immediately and never really put the Aggies back into the game. Texas A&M shot a sluggish 30.4% with 16 turnovers, not winning numbers, which ended in a 59-47 road loss.

No. 14 Texas A&M will be back on the road to face Virginia in SEC/ACC Challenge

The Aggie Basketball team will travel to Virginia to take on UVA in the inaugural SEC/ACC challenge

No. 14 Texas A&M will face ACC foe UVA at the John Paul Jones Arena in Virginia on Wednesday night.

The Aggies have battled through some adversity after losing both Tyrece Radford and Henry Coleman III for most of their last two games. This has been a testament to how deep the team is and how well Coach Buzz Williams has the entire team ready to play with an impressive 6-1 start.

Virginia is the reigning 2023 ACC regular season title winner and is currently on a three-game winning streak heading into the game. This will be their first game against a ranked opponent this season and have a 5-1 record.

This will only be the second time these teams have met on the hardwood, with the first game being a 60-59 Aggie victory in 1962 in Jonesboro, AR.

The A&M football program is headed in a new direction, and former Aggie DC Mike Elko will lead it.

Elko spent the last two years at Duke, where he won ACC Coach of the Year and back-to-back winning seasons. As a head coach, he is 16-9 with a bowl win, and before that, he spent about two decades as an assistant coach.

Ready for the challenge, Mike Elko knows that he is expected to win and build a strong identity for the football program:

Men’s basketball moves to 7-0 on the season with win over Cal State Fullerton

The Huskers continue the historically strong start to the season with an 85-72 win over California State Fullerton.

Nebraska delivered five double-digit scorers in a highly productive outing by both teams. The Titans finished with a 41.8 shooting percentage, going 9-of-22 from beyond the arc while shooting seven free throws off nine attempts. The Huskers meanwhile shot an impressive 46.6 from the field, landing 12-of-30 3-pointers and shooting 19-of-20 from the free throw line.

Bradley transfer Rienk Mast led the charge for Nebraska, scoring 19 points, hauling in nine rebounds and going three-for-three from beyond the arc. Keisei Tominaga was also perfect in 3-point shooting, going 3-for-3 as well, which accompanied his perfect field goal shooting, going five-of-five in the win. This gave Tominaga 17 points in the win for his third double-digit game of the season.

The Huskers are now 7-0 on the season. This marks the best start in head coach Fred Hoiberg’s tenure at Nebraska. The Huskers will face their first big test of the season next Sunday, welcoming in No. 8 Creighton. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. and can be viewed on FS1.

Post Game Recap: Texas A&M falls 42-30 to No. 14 LSU in the 2023 regular season finale

The Aggies fought hard, but couldn’t tame the Tigers in the Bayou falling for their 5th loss of the season, and 10th consecutive SEC road loss.

Texas A&M (7-5, 4-4 SEC) falls after a valiant effort to the No. 14 LSU Tigers (9-3, 6-2 SEC) at Tiger Field in Baton Rouge on Saturday morning.

It was a pretty evenly matched contest early on, with both teams getting early stops. LSU would strike first after an Aggies failed fourth down attempt, resulting in a short field for the Tigers and a 7-0 lead. Texas A&M responded with their longest drive in 9 years with a 17-play 67 touchdown drive to tie it up early in the 2nd quarter.

Randy Bond would add another three points midway through the second quarter for the Aggies 10-7 lead. With both teams heating up, Heisman hopeful Jayden Daniels marched his team downfield after a kick out of bounds that gave the Tigers a great field position. A short pass from Daniels to Nabers put the Tigers back on top 14-10.

The Aggies, wanting to double-dip, had another impressive and efficient drive closing in on halftime. With under 30 seconds left and counting, in his 1st road start, Jaylen Henderson hit Jake Johnson for a 14-yard touchdown pass for the final score of the half to go up 17-14.

Bobby Petrino was in his bag to start the second half, giving Jaylen Henderson a little more freedom, and it paid off immediately, carving up the LSU defense down to the one-yard line. To cap off the Aggies’ drive, they brought in an additional blocker for 3rd and goal. Instead of pitching it to the running back, they handed it to the big man, offensive lineman Mark Nabou, for an exciting rushing touchdown to take a 24-14 lead.

LSU answered in a big way with their own touchdown to cut the Aggie lead to 24-21. The defenses for both teams finally tightened up after the Aggie defense forced a punt. However, LSU would stop an A&M drive with an interception near midfield that led to a Tigers touchdown, and that’s when Daniels began to carve up the Aggie’s secondary like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Texas A&M would be outscored 21-6 from that point as one of the top offenses in the nation started to heat up. Late in the fourth quarter, after an A&M turnover on downs, Daniels got the sign from Brian Kelly to take a knee, which sealed the final score at 42-30 for an LSU victory.

Essentially solidifying his Heisman campaign, Jayden Daniels is one heck of a player with a bright NFL future. For the Aggies, Texas A&M Athletic Director Ross Bjork is hard at work searching for the program’s new head football coach, as the impending announcement could come at any time soon.
