Patriots vs. Bills: Time, TV schedule and how to stream online

How to watch Patriots vs. Bills

The New England Patriots (11-3) will host the Buffalo Bills (10-4) in Week 16 for an enormous divisional matchup.

New England’s offense has been subpar this season and they’ll need the first round bye more than ever. If the Patriots can beat the Bills this week and the Miami Dolphins in Week 17, they’ll attain that first round bye. There’s also a scenario in which the Patriots lose the next two games and could potentially come in second place in the division.

The Bills lost 16-10 to the Patriots during the first matchup and they were dealing with some significant injuries. Buffalo has one of the league’s grittiest defenses and their offense has been efficient enough to win games. The Patriots will have to treat this one like a playoff game, or things could get shaky in the postseason.

Julian Edelman shuts down questions about his injuries

“I’m not answering questions about medical staff.”

It’s not exactly breaking news that New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is battling through a list of injuries right now. You can see him grimace almost any time he comes to his feet after taking a hard hit, or a clutching of his chest any time he goes to the ground hard.

But Edelman has not had any interest in addressing those injury-related topics in past weeks. And this week was no different.

“I’m not answering ‘physically’ questions,” Edelman responded from his locker on Thursday after being asked how he was feeling.

It was the final question of his media availability as he walked off with a “Thanks, guys.”

Edelman has been on the injury report almost every day since Week Three when he exited the game against the New York Jets with a chest injury. Since then, he’s added shoulder and knee injuries as well.

Earlier in his availability Edelman was asked about the importance of the team’s medical staff. He declined to answer that one as well.

“I’m not answering questions about medical staff,” Edelman said.

Those in the locker room are well aware the 33-year-old receiver is playing through health-related adversity.

“He’s a pretty tough guy,” quarterback Tom Brady said during his press conference on Thursday. “He wants to be out there competing and playing. I think everyone has a lot of respect for him for that. He’s a tough guy.”

Special teams captain Matthew Slater said Edelman “reeks of toughness” earlier in the week and added he can’t remember playing with anyone more tough than Edelman over the course of his career.

It’s been a consistent message over the last few weeks.

And even with the injuries, he’s still been the most productive member of the Patriots offense. Edelman has 92 catches for 1,019 yards in 14 games. He enters the final two weeks of the season needing 14 catches and 88 yards to set career highs.

Edelman is currently listed as questionable on the injury report ahead of the Patriots hosting the Buffalo Bills on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. But you can count on him being out there, like he has been all year.

Julian Edelman on Patriots’ videotaping scandal: ‘That’s pretty much a joke’

“We haven’t even thought about it, honestly.”

New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman doesn’t think much of the team’s videotaping scandal, which spurred an NFL investigation.

The Patriots have admitted to videotaping the Cincinnati Bengals’ sideline from the press box during the team’s Week 14 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. New England explained the intent was to use that footage, not for Patriots’ football operation, but for a Patriots.com documentary series on advance scouts, whose job is to attend the game of their upcoming opponent to observe things like that team’s sideline. While they can watch, they cannot record video. The Patriots’ production team violated that rule, even if they did so inadvertently.

“Yeah, that’s pretty much a joke,” Edelman said during a weekly radio show appearance with WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday. “We haven’t even thought about it, honestly. We have been thinking about other things. It’s funny, but it is what it is. I don’t know, it’s ridiculous. My focus is on the Buffalo Bills.”

Tom Brady said something similar earlier this week.

“I don’t think any player gave it one second of thought,” he said. “… You just move on, man. There’s a lot of distractions out there and if you lose focus on your job, that is really a waste of your time. There’s a lot of people out there — they can create distractions for us, but we just want to go out there and focus on what we can do and what our job is and try and go out there and play the best we possibly can.”

Report: Julian Edelman’s knee injury could be more serious than initially expected

The Patriots could be in serious trouble if they head into the postseason without their best wide receiver.

The New England Patriots could be in serious trouble if they head into the postseason without their best wide receiver.

Julian Edelman has been battling injuries the entire 2019 season, but it hasn’t prevented him from moving the chains for New England. He’s having one of his best statistical seasons, with 92 catches for 1,019 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. But, things slowed down on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals after he recorded two catches for nine yards and only played in 62 percent of offensive snaps.

He entered the day as questionable and the Patriots listed him as active right before the game. According to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, he did ‘some damage to the tendon in his left knee’ during the Patriots’ matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

There is speculation that he either has tendonitis in the patellar tendon, or an acute partial tear of the tendon, according to Dr. Jessica Flynn of The Boston Sports Journal.

“If the tendon is weakened by tendonitis or partial tearing, there is a risk of worsening of the tear or complete rupture of the tendon,” Flynn said. “Unfortunately, we are unable to predict when or if that will happen, but it is often preceded by symptoms of tendonitis. A fully torn patellar tendon requires surgery, has a prolonged recovery, and a return to the previous level of play in the NFL is very very difficult. On average, a full patellar tendon tear is much more difficult to recover from than an ACL tear.”

This is an injury that cannot be ignored, so the Patriots will have to closely monitor it. New England’s wide receiver corps after Edelman consists of Mohamed Sanu, N’Keal Harry, Philip Dorsett and Jakobi Meyers.

The Patriots will have to make some tough decisions going forward on how much they’ll play Edelman.

5 takeaways from Patriots’ bounce-back victory against Bengals

Here are five takeaways from the Patriots’ 34-13 victory against the Bengals.

The New England Patriots got a much-needed victory in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

There are still glaring vulnerabilities throughout the unit, but they’ve done enough to clinch the playoffs and enter the final weeks of the season with an 11-3 record. New England’s scary-good secondary showed why they’re among the best in the league, and the offense did just enough against the Bengals to get the job done — this has been the recurring theme all season.

Needless to say, the Bengals are now 1-13 and this isn’t a victory to boast about. The Patriots will see the Buffalo Bills in Week 16 and the Miami Dolphins during the final week of the season. They’ll have to play much better than they have in the past few weeks, but this game against the Bengals was a solid start.

Here are five takeaways from the game.

Stephon Gilmore is New England’s MVP this season

The Patriots have a league-high 25 interceptions this season and Stephon Gilmore is responsible for six of them.

He is undoubtedly the NFL’s best cornerback right now and he continues to make a case for Defensive Player of the Year. He added on to that case against the Bengals after recording two interceptions — one resulting in a pick-six. Gilmore told reporters after the game that he should’ve had three, maybe four interceptions.

Gilmore leads New England’s secondary and he’s the reason that they feel so comfortable playing man defense. He has changed the dynamic of this team, and the Patriots will need his continued excellence if they want to make a deep playoff run.

Julian Edelman celebrates win vs. Bengals with photoshopped ‘Life of Pi’ Instagram post

The New England Patriots are 11-3 and Julian Edelman is a huge reason for it.

The New England Patriots are 11-3 and Julian Edelman is a huge reason for it.

Edelman is the only wide receiver that Tom Brady truly trusts and he’s been producing in every game despite injuries. He only recorded two catches for nine yards in the Patriots’ 34-13 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but he has 92 catches for 1,019 yards and six touchdowns so far this season.

He went to Instagram after the bounce-back win and posted this ‘Life of Pi’ inspired photo, dubbed ‘Life of Pats’.

Julian Edelman, Ted Karras active for Week 15 against Bengals

Good news for Tom Brady.

Tom Brady has to be happy ahead of Week 15.

Receivers Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu and center Ted Karras were all listed as questionable with injuries, but they were all active on Sunday for Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Edelman had an existing shoulder injury, but this week, the receiver was also listed with a new issue, a knee problem which he suffered in Week 14. Sanu has been dealing with a lingering ankle issue. And Karras will make his return after missing Week 14 when he had a knee problem.

But that’s who will play. Here’s a look at who won’t play:

Korey Cunningham, OL
Ryan Izzo, TE
Byron Cowart, DL
Damien Harris, RB
Jason McCourty, CB
Jermaine Eleumunor, OL
Cody Kessler, QB

McCourty was present in Week 14, though he played a limited role. He did not play in Week 13. He is dealing with a groin issue. That could promote JC Jackson and Jonathan Jones into bigger roles on Sunday.

New England kicks off in Cincinnati at 1 p.m.

Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu questionable for Week 15 vs. Bengals

Again, the Patriots’ top WRs are on the injury report. Do they have something to worry about?

The New England Patriots listed seven players as questionable for Week 15 against the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday.

Receivers Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) and Mohamed Sanu (ankle) were both limited participants in practice, and were among those questionable. Edelman missed practice on Wednesday, and his knee injury was new to the report this week. He did not speak with the media during the week to address his health. The 33-year-old receiver has been hugely influential in New England’s offense in 2019, and is on pace to set career highs in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

Center Ted Karras (knee) has missed one week after suffering his injury in Week 13. If he played, it would be a remarkably quick turnaround for what is reported to be a MCL sprain. Last week, center James Ferentz replaced Karras.

The other questionable Patriots were: LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee), DT Byron Cowart (head), CB Jason McCourty (groin) and DT Danny Shelton (shoulder).

New England kicks off against Cincinnati on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Mohamed Sanu praises Julian Edelman’s grit: ‘He’s a bad man’

The word tough is an understatement when it comes to Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

The word tough is an understatement when it comes to New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

The 5-foot-10, 195 pound slot receiver takes a beating more often than not and he always shoots right back up. This is the grit that’s helped him become one of the NFL’s most successful postseason receivers and he’s a huge reason for the Patriots’ success over the past decade.

Edelman has been listed as questionable since Week 3 of this season and it began with a chest injury. He’s racked up other small injuries also, but that hasn’t prevented him from recording 90 receptions for 1,010 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Edelman is Tom Brady’s only trusted receiver, which makes it more difficult for him to get open amongst the double teams.

New England’s newest receiver Mohamed Sanu has witnessed this first-hand, and he spoke on it after practice Wednesday.

“Man, y’all don’t understand how tough Jules is,” Sanu said, transcribed by NESN. “That dude’s tough. He’s a tough son of a gun, and he goes out there every day. Whether there’s something aching, something biting or whatever the case may be, he gives it all he’s got. Even when they tell him not to, he’s still out there, and that’s what I love about him. I love to compete with him, man.”

Edelman, 33, is having the best season of his career, and that’s after tearing his ACL — while following it up with a Super Bowl MVP award. Special teams captain Matthew Slater spoke about Edelman earlier in the season and wasn’t short of compliments.

“Part of me is not amazed anymore because that is who he is, but then you kind of take that for granted. I don’t think you can take a guy like Julian for granted,” Slater said. “I honestly think sometimes he can go out there and die, not literally, but he will give you everything he has until he can’t. That is just rare. Not only for this era of football, but I think for any era of football to have a guy like that — just his will to go out and compete and win, and to play through whatever is going on is really unmatched in my mind.”

Sanu is looking in at a player that has embodied this level of toughness his entire life.

“You can see how tough he is in his play,” Sanu said. “They don’t call him Squirrel for nothing. He’s a bad man.”

Patriots vs. Chiefs: Time, TV schedule and how to stream online

How to watch Patriots vs. Chiefs

The New England Patriots (10-2) will host the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4) in Week 14.

After a discouraging loss to the Houston Texans, the Patriots are looking to bounce back in all three phases of the game. The offense couldn’t find any rhythm until later in the game and Houston exposed matchups against New England’s defense — resulting in four passing touchdowns. Tom Brady’s lack of chemistry with his receivers has been a glaring issue, but the Patriots feel like they can resolve this before the playoffs.

Kansas City is heading into the game with an underwhelming record, but they’ve dealt with multiple injuries this season. Patrick Mahomes missed a couple games with what seemed to be a season-ending injury and Tyreek Hill has been in and out of the lineup. Both teams are hungry for a huge conference win because of the playoff implications that will stem from this game.
