Should the Jets trade Haason Reddick for Davante Adams? WFAN’s Boomer Esiason muses on the possibility

Could the Jets trade Haason Reddick for Davante Adams?

Could the New York Jets headache holdout of Haason Reddick be solved with a trade? Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, now a personality on WFAN, believes that a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams could solve not just one but two major issues for the Jets.

Esiason on WFAN on Tuesday offered a possible solution when he speculated on the Jets trading Reddick for Adams. Reddick, who has been engaged in a contract holdout for the entirety of training camp, requested a trade on Monday.

Esiason said he thinks the solution could be the Jets making a move to jettison Reddick and bring in the All-Pro Adams to bolster the offense.

Now, Esiason never said that he’s heard it is a possibility. It is just something that the WFAN personality believes could make sense for the Jets:

“This is one of the reasons Haason Reddick is holding out: He basically says my numbers are either as good or better than some of these guys getting paid a lot  more than me – and that’s why I want the money,” Esiason said on WFAN.

“Again, I go back to Davante Adams… He’ll never say it publicly, but are you gonna sit here and tell me that he’s happy playing in Vegas right now after what he was promised originally?”

Esiason cautioned that Adams, a “Hall of Fame wide receiver” may want to stay with the Raiders.

“Do you think he wants to play in Vegas under those circumstances, where he knows – he knows in his heart – that they don’t have a chance in hell to get to the Super Bowl?” Esiason said.

Last year with the Raiders, Adams had 103 catches for 1,144 yards and eight touchdowns.

He spent the first eight years of his NFL career playing with the Green Packers. With the Packers, he played alongside Aaron Rodgers, who is now the quarterback of the Jets.

NFL analyst Ross Tucker says the Jets, Haason Reddick impasse ‘makes absolutely no sense’

Ross Tucker doesn’t understand the whole situation with the Jets and Haason Reddick.

CBS Sports analyst and former NFL offensive lineman Ross Tucker sees miscommunication at the center of the holdout of New York Jets defensive lineman Haason Reddick.

Reddick, who spent the last two years with the Philadelphia Eagles (of his seven-season NFL career), had made it clear this offseason that he wanted a new contract. This was why the Eagles were willing to trade Reddick, twice a Pro Bowl selection, for a third round pick.

Tucker sees red flags on both sides of this conversation. The Jets obviously would like to keep Reddick’s salary cap hit down, but it was clear when they traded for him this offseason that he would need a new contract in order to play.

Reddick, in turn, is an elite edge rusher. At 29-years old, this is a big potential contract for him.

“This is a mess, obviously,” Tucker said on a video posted to social media.

“And at this point, it’s pretty clear there was a miscommunication, right? You know, when you hear from people that clearly are getting the information from Reddick’s camp, they say that the Jets promised they would give him a new deal. When you hear from people that are clearly getting the information from the Jets camp, they say they were told he’d be willing to play this year out on his original contract.

“So somebody’s lying, or there was some type of miscommunication

“The only thing I would say about that is it makes absolutely no sense that he would play out the final year of his deal for the Jets – if he wasn’t willing to do that in Philadelphia, where he’s from, where they have a really good team – why would he be willing to do that with the Jets? So I’m not – I don’t know about the miscommunication. I don’t know who’s lying or not, or maybe it’s just, you know, like I said they’re not on the same page. page. But logically. It makes absolutely no sense for him to be wanting to play for the Jets, on the same contract.”

In each of his last four seasons, Reddick has double-digit sacks. Last year for the Eagles, he had 11 sacks and 38 total tackles in 17 games.

Haason Reddick requests a trade, Jets GM gives swift response

Haason Reddick has officially requested another trade but Jets GM Joe Douglas made it clear he isn’t being dealt

Haason Reddick’s career with the New York Jets might end before he ever takes a snap. Reddick, who the Jets acquired in a trade with the Eagles this offseason, has officially requested a trade from New York.

Reddick made it clear when he was traded by the Eagles that he was seeking a new contract but he and the Jets have been unable to come to an agreement for the 2024 season. With no deal done yet, Reddick wants to be traded (again) in hopes of landing with a team that will grant him his contract wish.

It’s not surprising that Reddick wants to be dealt considering he’s held out all offseason and skipped every practice, but the Jets have no plans to trade him.

Shortly after news broke of Reddick’s trade request, general manager Joe Douglas put out a statement in response. He left no doubt about the Jets’ plans with Reddick, saying they will not trade him and he will continue to be fined for every day of practice that he misses.

This standoff has no end in sight, but it’s not a great look for the Jets that they traded for Reddick without a contract ready to go. The start of the regular season is just a few weeks away and it’s very possible that New York will kick things off without its talented edge rusher on the field.

Ambassador Lyons – New York Jets legend gets new role with team

Marty Lyons has a new role with the New York Jets.

After 22 years spent in the radio booth calling New York Jets games, Marty Lyons has a new role with the organization.

Lyons was announced on Thursday as taking on an ambassador role with the Jets.

Selected in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft by the Jets, Lyons spent all 11 years of his NFL career in New York with Gang Green. He is part of the franchise’s ‘Ring of Honor’ which celebrates the best players to ever suit up for the Jets.

He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

A crucial part of his legacy is the Marty Lyons Foundation, which provides resources and experiences for children facing life-threatening illnesses.

“Serving as the Jets radio analyst for the past 22 years has allowed me to stay close to the game and a team that I have loved for as long as I can remember,” Lyons said via a team statement.

“This new role will enable me to continue my commentary on the team and stay connected with the fans. I am so thankful to the Jets and Woody and Chris Johnson specifically for allowing me to continue to be a part of the organization for so many years. I am also thankful for the support they have given and continue to give to my organization, The Marty Lyons Foundation, and the wish children we serve.”

Anthony Becht will replace Lyons in the radio booth for this season.

A former first-round pick of the Jets, the tight end spent 11 total seasons in the NFL including the first five in New York.

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers talks about his time spent watching Brett Favre

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers talks about Brett Favre.

For Aaron Rodgers, being behind Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre allowed him to develop and grow. The now New York Jets quarterback says that his time spent as the understudy to Favre helped him understand the game more fully.

In an interesting twist, Favre played the 2008 season with the Jets following a storied career with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers is now in his second year with the Jets, following his own storied career in Green Bay.

And it was Rodgers who replaced Favre in Green Bay.

Asked this week by reporters at training camp about setting the standard within the Jets organization, Rodgers pointed to his time as a young player and being able to watch Favre on a daily basis.

“There’s people that set the standard, I mean, I got to play behind Brett (Favre). He’s a first ballot Hall-of-Famer and I got to see what the standard of excellence looked like every day,” Rodgers told reporters on Wednesday.

“There was never a drop-off in his energy, his enthusiasm, the way he practiced, the way he came, and even on days where, now I know what he probably felt like at times where you’re in the third day in a row of pads, you’re a little bit tired, bodies aching, you just had some squats the day before, and you’re trying to get the body moving and going, but you still got to bring it. I had some great coaches along the way too, starting in high school and junior college, and at Cal with coach [Jeff] Tedford, and as a young player with Tom Clements and Mike McCarthy, and Joe Philbin. Those guys always kind of held me to a standard when I was the scout team guy, they would pull me aside and have conversations with me about the future, and about leadership, and about body language, and a lot of different things that helped me along the way.”

In his one season with the Jets, Favre went 9-7 while having the eighth-best passing season in franchise history. He would retire following his time with the Jets, then come out of retirement to play two seasons for the Minnesota Vikings.

Jets Aaron Rodgers hopes to be on Team USA in the Olympics

Aaron Rodgers wants to be an Olympian.

Aaron Rodgers is hoping to add a gold medal to a career that will undoubtedly end with enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The New York Jets quarterback made the admission that he hopes to participate in the Olympics in 2028. The sport?

Flag football.

Rodgers talked with Kay Adams this week from Jets training camp. Invariably, the topic of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams potentially reuniting with Rodgers came up…because, of course, it had to.

It was in this conversation talking about playing with Davante Adams again that that Rodgers wove in the idea of playing flag football in the Olympics.

“I’d love to play with Davante again, it might be in the, you know, 2028 Olympics if they let some of the old guys go out and play but we’ll see,” Rodgers told Kay Adams.

“I want him to have great success – I love him. We keep in contact – mostly about golf, because he’s a fanatic about golf.”

New York Jets DT Quinnen Williams may increase sack total in 2024

If the New York Jets are able establish scoring leads, DT Quinnen Williams may have more chances to let loose in the pass rush in 2024.

New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams totaled just 5.5 sacks last season. However, a dynamic change in the Jets’ offensive play style may lead to an increase in sack opportunities for Williams in 2024.

The Jets ranked No. 7 in the NFL with 48 sacks last season and Williams wasn’t even the reckoned force leading the team in such category. Defensive end Bryce Huff and linebacker Jermaine Johnson were the catalyst behind the Jets’ pass rush. Williams, often faced with a double team, has however been pivotal setting picks in defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s blitz scheme.

Moreover, with a third-down conversion rate of 25%, the Jets offense practically left its defense out on a limb last season. With an inability to sustain offensive drives, Williams’ and the Jets’ defense spent more time defending the run as last year, as opponents sought to salt games away and dictate time of possession.

Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will be intentional about fixing offensive woes and this may yield an increase in points per game for the Jets. Thus, ff the Jets are able to sustain scoring leads this season, this may force opponents into more passing situations, giving Williams a chance to let loose in the pass rush.

New York Jets All-Pro LB Quincy Williams is destined for greatness

New York Jets LB Quincy Williams ranked an impressive No. 5 in solo tackles with 95 through 17 games played last season.

New York Jets linebacker Quincy Williams ranked an impressive No. 5 in solo tackles totaling 95 through 17 games played last season.

Williams has shown versatility in defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s system, operating as a run-stuffer, coverage guy, and pass-rusher.

The Jets finished near the bottom of the NFL in time of possession last season (No. 25), meaning Williams was forced to play a lot of snaps. 2023 was a test of Williams’ mental and physical endurance, yet he displayed a consistent tenacity every week.

The leadership of Jets head coach Robert Saleh and teammate linebacker C.J Mosley are solid points of reference for Williams’ and his increased intuitiveness. Williams’ instincts have been impactful versus the run, an asset to a Jets’ defense primed for a big season in 2024.

As Williams and the Jets’ defense condition under Ulbrich during training camp, they’ll get a fair share of quality reps against quarterback Aaron Rodgers, running back Breece Hall, and emerging rookie running back Braelon Allen.

Mark Sanchez predicts an MVP caliber season for Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers

Mark Sanchez makes a big projection for Aaron Rodgers.

Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez believes that Aaron Rodgers is going to put up some impressive numbers this year for the New York Jets. These numbers would be very reminiscent of Rodgers’ recent MVP seasons.

Once hailed as ‘The Sanchise,’ Sanchez is a former first-round pick of the Jets. He led New York to consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances in his first two seasons in the league.

He sees Rodgers, who missed nearly the entirety of last season with an Achilles injury, as on the verge of bouncing back to the form he showed in 2020 and 2021 when he was the league’s MVP.

On Tuesday, Sanchez told Colin Cowherd on FS1 that he sees a big season for Rodgers. He didn’t predict an MVP season for Rodgers, but the numbers he talked about would put the Jets quarterback in the discussion for the league’s top individual honors.

“I think he’s easily 4000 yards – around there. I think he’s easily right around 30 touchdowns, less than 10 picks,” Sanchez told Cowherd on FS1.

Cowherd then said “31 TDs, nine picks” which got Sanchez rolling.

“Like, that would be more than enough, and I think he can easily surpass that in a year where they catch fire,” Sanchez said.

“Like, that’s a team that can win the division, you know what I mean? And we have two really good teams never won our division. The vivision went through Foxboro, (Tom) Brady and (Bill) Belichick. And we were 9-2 at one point playing them on Monday night, and just got absolutely blown out of the water.

“This team is going to be good.”

In 2021, Rodgers threw for 4,115 yards with 37 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Wearing a t-shirt inspired by his Egypt trip, Aaron Rodgers hopes to lead the Jets to the promised land

Aaron Rodgers made quite the fashion statement this week.

Is New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers set to have left Egypt in order to lead his team through the wilderness to the Super Bowl?

It was the Biblical Aaron (the brother of Moses), who helped lead the people of Israel out of Egypt and to the ‘Promised Land.’ And after 13 seasons without a playoff appearance and over a half-century following their lone Super Bowl appearance, the Jets and their fan base are certainly hoping this season will see them through the desert and to a championship.

In typical Rodgers fashion, he arrived at Jets training camp on Tuesday with a little spice to his entrance. His t-shirt, a nod to his recent trip to Egypt (that drew criticism due to time missed from minicamp practice) and a smirk that let on that Rodgers knew he was doing a pretty good troll:

Rodgers and the Jets enter this season of expectation looking to build on what was a disappointing 2023 for the team. If Rodgers can stay healthy, there is every reason to believe that the Jets can not just make the playoffs but be a team that finishes atop the NFL’s pyramid.
