A kicker competition is coming to the New York Jets

A kicker competition is coming to the New York Jets

Greg Zuerlein’s poor efforts might have finally cost him his job with the New York Jets.

The Jets (2-6) lost 25-22 to the New England Patriots (2-6) in Week 8.

A few common themes have following New York this season. First off, losses. Second, missed kicks.

Zuerlein, 36, missed a 44-yard kick and an extra point in the three-point defeat. He leads the NFL in missed kicks with six.

A day after the loss to the Pats on Monday, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced there will be a kicker competition on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium. If someone impresses, Zuerlein could be on is way out.

“We’re exploring all the options right now,” Ulbrich said. “We really are. So we’re going to bring the kickers in for a workout, see where they stand and make a decision after that.”

It’s the second time the Jets are bringing in placekickers to tryout. Because it’s Round 2, it’s unlikely Zuerlein survives this time–Even with New York’s quick turnaround against the Houston Texans (6-2) on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 9.

Ulbrich discussing the kicker battle can be found in the SNY clip below:

Jets’ Haason Reddick refuses to discuss holdout

Jets’ Haason Reddick refuses to discuss holdout

If you were looking to hear about the holdout Haason Reddick had… you’re going to be disappointed.

Following the Jets’ disappointing 25-22 loss to the Patriots in Week 8, Reddick spoke for the first time about holding out for a new contract since the spring. The Pats defeat was his first ever game with the Jets after sitting out for that extended period.

Reddick immediately decided he wasn’t going to do discuss it.

In his team’s locker room on Sunday, Reddick flat out refused to say anything about it.

His full reaction can be found below:

Former Jets head coach Robert Saleh lands with new team

Former Jets head coach Robert Saleh lands with new team

Robert Saleh has a new team and job.

The name of the new position was not announced but Saleh is now helping out the Green Bay Packers in some capacity.

Saleh was spotted on the sideline during a recent practice in Green Bay. Then Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Saleh, one of his close friends, will be helping out the team’s offense not defense.

According to the Packers’ website, Saleh will at least be with Green Bay through Thursday of this week.

As LaFleur explained, Saleh’s in the building to help with the offense despite his past as a defensive-minded coach like he was with the Jets. The idea is that Saleh will give his perspective on Green Bay’s offense and how a defense might look at it.

Saleh was fired in New York following the team’s 2-3 start to the season. The Jets now sit at 2-5 and have yet to win since he was dismissed.

LaFleur discussing Saleh helping out the Packers can be found in the clip below:

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich on Haason Reddick’s availability vs. Patriots

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich on Haason Reddick’s availability vs. Patriots

Step one was getting Haason Reddick into the Jets’ building to sign a contract. That was accomplished.

Now we wait and see if he can be ready in time to face the Patriots (1-6) in Week 8.

If you’re asking interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich? He thinks that’s going to happen.

While we wait to hear from Reddick himself, Ulbrich has weighed in on the 30-year-old’s availability ahead of the Jets (2-5) heading out to face the Patriots. Ulbrich indicated that yes, Reddick will be in the fold according, to ESPN:

Last weekend, Reddick ended his long holdout with the Jets. He reported for duty for the first time since being traded from the Eagles to the Jets on Monday.

As the week continues to unfold, Jets Wire will continue to provide updates on Reddick’s availability.

Haason Reddick finally reported to the Jets’ facility

Haason Reddick finally reported to the Jets facility

If there were any possible last second nerves, those are gone now.

It was reported over the weekend that pass rusher Haason Reddick had decided to end his holdout with the New York Jets. That held true.

On Monday, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini followed up that Reddick did make his way to 1 Jets Drive:

Reddick’s holdout was a months long saga which turned into a rollercoaster. It involved trade requests and even a changing of agents for the player, but the 30-year-old has begun his career in New York as of Monday.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets have been granted a roster exemption for Reddick which expires on Nov. 1.

It’s unclear exactly what type of agreement the Jets and Reddick came to in order to get him in the door. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, part of the deal involves the team waiving the $12 million in fines he gathered while sitting out.

The Jets traded for Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles back in March. Almost right away his holdout began.

Reddick’s addition to the defense will certainly be a pass-rushing boost.

Jets’ Alijah Vera-Tucker questionable to return vs. Steelers

Jets’ Alijah Vera-Tucker questionable to return vs. Steelers

The Jets are down an offensive lineman just before halftime against the Steelers.

The team has has announced that Alijah Vera-Tucker has sustained an ankle injury. His return to the game is questionable:

Vera-Tucker was spotted heading to the locker room before the end of the first half. Considering that, he’s not going to potentially return until after the break.

Xavier Newman-Johnson replaced Vera-Tucker in the lineup at guard.

Haason Reddick ends long holdout with the Jets

Haason Reddick ends long holdout with the Jets

Haason Reddick will soon put on a New York Jets helmet for the first time.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Reddick and the Jets have adjusted his contract and the 30-year-old is going to end his holdout. He is set to report to the team on Monday:

Reddick’s new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has confirmed that the pass rusher and team have come to an agreement. In a follow-up report from Schefter, Reddick will play on his current deal but the Jets have agreed to waive all of the fines he had for not showing up. Those amounted to around $12 million.

The Jets traded for Reddick in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles back in March. Almost right away his holdout began.

The saga was a rollercoaster which included trade requests and more, but it has come to an end.

Reddick’s addition to the defense will certainly be a pass-rushing boost. Reddick will still be watching from the sideline when New York travels to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 7.

Report: Lions ‘reached out’ about Jets’ Haason Reddick

Report: Lions ‘reached out’ about Jets’ Haason Reddick

Haason Reddick is probably going to leave the New York Jets before ever playing for them. A potential next team to keep an eye on is the Detroit Lions.

In wake of the Jets’ trade for All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, Reddick was granted permission to seek a trade.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, a team to keep an eye on is the Lions:

“Haason Reddick would be an obvious player the Lions can inquire about, and I’ve been told they have reached out,” Fowler wrote this week. “Reddick’s recent hiring of agent Drew Rosenhaus, who is known for getting deals done expeditiously, could improve his chances of either staying with the Jets or facilitating a trade.”

It’s unclear exactly what the Jets could land for Reddick after the way his extensive holdout has gone.

With the Adams acquisition, it was clear Reddick would be leaving New York. The Jets won’t be able to meet Reddick’s demands. New York owner Woody Johnson confirmed that Reddick was allowed to look for a trade partner this week. That came after the team previously said no to the idea in August.

Adams changed all that.

Reddick was originally traded to New York this past offseason.

Jeff Ulbrich: Davante Adams will make Jets debut vs. Steelers

Jeff Ulbrich: Davante Adams will make Jets debut vs. Steelers

When the New York Jets visit the Pittsburgh Steelers for a “Sunday Night Football” matchup in Week 7, Davante Adams will be suiting up.

Following the completion of the trade between the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders to get Adams in New York, head coach Jeff Ulbrich noted it is expected that Adams will not need more than a week to get ready to play. He’s good to go now.

“It’s a challenge for Todd Downing and the offensive staff and getting him up to speed as fast as possible,” Ulbrich said. “Fortunately, there is a lot of familiarity with the offense. It’s been a system he’s been a part of for years.”

What’s probably helping is the fresh scenery for Adams, too.

“It was time for a change. This whole things transpired a bit weird but, at the end of the day, we’re in a better place,” Adams said this week.

Prior to being traded, the 31-year-old was not practicing much or playing for the Raiders. He has seemingly cleared from his hamstring injury pretty quickly after moving too.
