Georgia Tech vs Florida State Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Can the offense get the running game going?

In what should be a lost season after losing head coach Geoff Collins early on, the team has managed to find something positive and even push for a possible bowl bid with two wins in its last three games.

What went right? The offense was able to pound away a bit and everything else fell into place. It’s not like the Yellow Jackets have to rumble for 300 yards, either. They’re 3-0 when running for over 125 yards and 0-4 when they don’t.

The Florida State run defense isn’t bad, but the team is on a three-game losing streak, and why?

A few reasons, but allowing over 160 rushing yards in each of the three didn’t help.

Georgia Tech has to run well and rely on turnover margin – it’s +10 on the year – to get by. But …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 8

Why Florida State Will Win

Georgia Tech isn’t Clemson, NC State, or Wake Forest.

The Yellow Jackets might be playing better, but they’re not among the stars of the ACC this year like those three are. Florida State played relatively well over the last three games, but the teams on the other side were just a bit better.

The Noles are still running well and should hit 200 yards on the ground, and on the other side there’s no worry about the anything happening through the air.

FSU should be able to load up and hold Georgia Tech to under four yards per carry, and the ACC’s second-best pass defense should take care of the rest – especially with Tech starting quarterback nursing a sprained foot.

– Game Previews, Predictions CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Florida State will get back on track at home.

Georgia Tech is a tough out, but it’s not going to do enough with the passing attack, the ground game won’t go off, and the Noles will be too balanced. As long as FSU keeps the giveaway to two and can be -1 or better in turnover margin, it’ll have done its job.

Virginia vs Georgia Tech Game Preview

Why Virginia Will Win

It’s been a rough run over the last three games – all ACC losses – but the team is rested with two weeks off after playing like it could use a bit of a break.

It’s hardly all doom and gloom in a 2-4 season. The defense is doing a decent job of taking the ball away, the pass rush is strong enough to be a problem for the Georgia Tech offensive line, and the parts are there to finally start cranking up the offense a bit.

Even with the positives over the last few weeks, Georgia Tech is still awful offensively on third downs, the line is still an issue, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 7

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

The Yellow Jackets are playing well enough to win.

They might not be anything special, but the defense has stepped it up in wins over Pitt and Duke with the secondary and pressure from the front making a difference. The offense was able to run well against the Panthers and threw it around against the Blue Devils. Expect enough of a balance to keep things moving against the Cavalier D.

There aren’t major penalty problems, there weren’t any turnovers over the last two games, and now everything is trending up.

Virginia is trying to figure out how to win. Georgia Tech is doing it.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

Both teams are coming off a two-week break, and both have a make-or-break moment.

Georgia Tech can honestly think about a bowl game with a win, and getting this done is a must with four of the last five games on the road.

Virginia gets four straight home games after this and doesn’t leave the state the rest of the way. Win, and it might kickstart the campaign.

The Cavaliers will be sharper than usual, but they won’t avoid the turnovers. They’ll give it away at least twice. That will be just enough for the revitalized Yellow Jackets to pull through.

Georgia Tech vs Pitt Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

Welcome to the Brent Key era at Georgia Tech.

The pressure is off, there’s no more speculation about the future of Geoff Collins or whether or not the direction of the program is changing – it is – and no the players can go out and just play.

So is this team doing anything right? The coach got canned four games in, so not really, but there’s a good enough pass rush to bother Kedon Slovis to keep him from getting comfortable.

On the offensive side, the running game that only busted out against Western Carolina has decent enough parts to be dangerous.

Lost in the rough start is that Clemson is good. Ole Miss is good. Going to UCF  is tough. The Yellow Jacket schedule wasn’t easy to start, and now Jeff Sims and the offense get to go against a pass defense that struggled against West Virginia and Tennessee, and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 4

Why Pitt Will Win

The coaching change isn’t going to make the Georgia Tech pass defense better.

Slovis should do just fine with a wee bit of time. The Yellow Jackets were able to hold down UCF’s passing game that doesn’t do a whole lot, but Clemson’s DJ Uiagalelei and Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss were able to put up yards, even if it wasn’t always pretty.

Pitt has a bad mix of things that could take away what the offense wants to do.

The team is great at controlling the clock – Pitt is first in the ACC in time of possession, and Georgia Tech is last – with a pass rush that should live in the backfield.

However …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Georgia Tech offense might be more dangerous.

The one thing the coaching change might do is get Sims on the move more with a faster pace to the attack. The O should open it up a bit, take more shots down the field, and …

The Pitt defense will generate too much pressure and ruin most of those plans before they can get going.

The cold and the rain expected on Saturday night won’t help.

Georgia Tech – just like in the other three losses – will have way too hard of a time scoring.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 5

Georgia Tech vs Pitt Prediction, Line

Pitt 34, Georgia Tech 17

Georgia Tech vs UCF Game Preview

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

UCF is screwing up too much.

In the first two games it was hit hard by penalties, flagged 21 times in the two. It chilled on that against Florida Atlantic, but it turned the ball over three times.

Between that, problems in the red zone, and a few special teams gaffes, Georgia Tech should get the mistakes it needs to get the O going.

The Yellow Jackets haven’t been great so far, but playing Clemson and Ole Miss had something to do with that. The run defense hasn’t been bad, and on their own side the penalties and turnovers have been kept to a minimum over the past few weeks.

But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why UCF Will Win

The Georgia Tech offense is really, really struggling.

Jeff Sims is a nice quarterback, but he can’t do it all by himself. There’s no downfield passing game to scare the Knight secondary, there aren’t enough first downs, the running game isn’t doing enough, and it’s all behind a line that’s allowing way too many things happening in the backfield.

UCF hasn’t been perfect, but the ground game has been consistent, the passing attack got going again in the win over Florida Atlantic, and the defense should hold up fine against the Yellow Jacket ground game.

Week 4 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

Here’s the real test for Georgia Tech. Again, playing Clemson and Ole Miss is going to be a problem for anyone, but UCF is a team to beat on the road if things are on the right track.

Louisville was able to do it, and that’s at least the level the Yellow Jackets need to be at.

The offense isn’t doing enough, though, the UCF ground game will work too well, and it’ll be a tough loss. Georgia Tech needs the passing game to come through, and it won’t be able to do it.

NFL Expert Picks, Week 3

Georgia Tech vs UCF Prediction, Line

UCF 31, Georgia Tech 16
Line: UCF -20, o/u: 56.5
ATS Confidence out of 5: 3
Georgia Tech vs UCF Must See Rating (out of 5): 2.5
