Eagles sign former sixth round pick to a deal

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing defensive end Tarron Jackson and released quarterback Will Grier

The Eagles announced two roster moves on Thursday. The team signed 2021 sixth-round pick Tarron Jackson to a practice squad deal.

The team released veteran quarterback Will Grier from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Jackson (6-2, 254) originally was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Coastal Carolina. He played in every game as a rookie, logging 17 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble in 253 snaps on defense.

Jackson split time between the active roster and the practice squad of the NFC Champions in 2022, playing in five games, including playoffs. He was on the practice squad for the entirety of the 2023 campaign. He battled for a roster spot in this year’s Training Camp and preseason but was released during the final roster cutdown.

Jackson was promptly signed to Carolina’s practice squad and eventually promoted to the active roster before being waived on October 15. He played in three games for the Panthers, logging 28 snaps on defense.

Grier previously played for Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore both in Dallas and in Los Angeles with the Chargers. The former third-round pick of the Panthers started two games for Carolina in his rookie season of 2019.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Geodert returned and participated in practice ahead of Week 10 game vs. the Dallas Cowboys

Goedert has missed the three two games after injuring his hamstring early in the Week 6 win over Cleveland and did not practice.

Slay, who exited the Birds win over the Bengals with a groin injury, did not practice last week.  Isaiah Rodgers replaced him in the Bengals game and was solid in coverage against Jacksonville wide receivers in Week 11.

Slay returned to practice and is one of three key starters who should return to the lineup.

Defensively, defensive tackle Jalen Carter participated in practice after a dominant performance against the Jaguars.

Jalen Hurts injury update: Latest news on Eagles QB

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts missed the early part of practice and could get a rest day on Wednesday with two games in four days

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts missed the early part of practice and could get a rest day on Wednesday with two games in four days looming.

According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, the Eagles star quarterback didn’t take any reps early on.

Jeff McLane said Hurts didn’t throw any quarterback drills to start practice.

Philadelphia plays Dallas on Sunday and then will play a much-anticipated Thursday night game against the surging Washington Commanders (7-2) on Amazon Prime. It’ll be the first regular season between Jalen Hurts and the Commanders’ star rookie and No. 2 overall pick, Jayden Daniels.

A.J. Brown injury update: Latest news as Eagles WR returns to practice

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown returned to practice on Wednesday after suffering a knee injury in win over Jaguars

Just hours after an MRI indicated A.J. Brown would be day to day with a knee injury; the Eagles All-Pro returned to practice ahead of Week 11 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Brown left Philadelphia’s win over the Jaguars with a knee injury that was deemed less serious than initially thought.

Brown has 23 catches for 444 yards (19.3 avg) and three touchdowns in five games played, and he’d likely be nearing 1,000 yards for a third straight season if not for missing three games.

Philadelphia is getting healthier and had Browns, Dallas Goedert (hamstring), Darius Slay (groin), Jalen Carter (shoulder), and Landon Dickerson (knee) all participate in the first practice of the week.

Eagles OC Kellen Moore breaks down what QB Cooper Rush brings to Cowboys offense

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore breaks down what Cooper Rush brings to the Dallas Cowboys offense

The Eagles know what it’s like to face the Cowboys without quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Dallas will now face Philadelphia again without Dak Prescott.

Prescott missed the October 2022 game against the Eagles with an ankle fracture, and Cooper Rush was 18-38 passing for 474 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

With Prescott out four games with a hamstring injury, Rush will again lead Dallas against Philadelphia in an intense NFC East rivalry that could put the Cowboys on the brink of playoff elimination.

As the Eagles prepare to take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10, Vic Fangio’s defensive coaching staff can ask Kellen Moore for insight on likely starter Cooper Rush.

Moore spent four seasons with Rush in Dallas—one year as QB coach and three as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator—giving the Eagles’ staff intimate knowledge of the signal-caller.

Moore had nothing but praise for Rush, who’ll be confident facing the Eagles pass rush.

“Coop is a really smart player,” Moore said Tuesday, via the team’s official transcript. “He has a great feel for the game. Anticipation. Vision. Feel for what the defense is doing. I think he puts himself in a really good position. He can handle volume from an offensive game plan perspective. When Coop has gone in there, he’s had success. It’ll still be a challenge for us.”

Dallas will likely put Dak Prescott on injured reserve, knocking him out for at least four weeks. The team has Trey Lance as an option under center.

Rush won’t have the benefit of a dominant defense that, in 2022, allowed 15.8 PPG in Rush’s five starts (28.1 PPG allowed in 2024), while Moore’s offense averaged 128.4 rush (82.0 rush YPG in 2024).

Eagles release TE Albert Okwuegbunam

Philadelphia Eagles release TE Albert Okwuegbunam

The Albert Okweugbunam experiment appears to be over, as the Philadelphia Eagles are releasing the veteran tight end.

Philadelphia made the move after opening his 21-day practice window, but it chose to keep Okweugbunam on injured reserve.

Okwuegbunam started the regular season on injured reserve after undergoing a core muscle repair procedure at the end of training camp. His 21-day practice window to return from IR opened on Oct. 16, and he was sidelined for the Week 9 win over Jacksonville despite not having an injury designation.

Had Okwuegbunam not been released today or activated off injured reserve leading up to Week 10 against the Cowboys, he would have been forced to sit for the entire 2024 regular season.

Commanders trade for CB Marshon Lattimore to help combat Eagles passing attack

The Washington Commanders have acquired Marshon Lattimore to help combat the Philadelphia Eagles passing attack

The Eagles and Commanders will meet in a little over a week. Washington had reportedly been shopping for cornerback help to combat Philadelphia’s duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Washington struck just hours before the trade deadline, swinging a deal for Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

The Commanders enter Week 10 with the No. 5 pass defense in the NFL, but their starting unit of Benjamin St-Juste, Mike Sainristil, and Noah Igbinoghene wouldn’t have a clear advantage against the Eagles’ group that includes Brown, Smith, Jahan Dotson, and others.

Lattimore, who turned 28 in May, is dealing with a hamstring injury and has three more years remaining on his current contract. He has recorded 30 combined tackles and two passes defensed in seven games this season.

Lattimore hasn’t played an entire season since 2021.
