Eagles meet with former Michigan QB Schea Patterson at the Senior Bowl

Eagles meet with former Michigan QB Shea Patterson at Senior Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles are always in the business of developing quarterback talent for the purpose of turning a talented signal-caller into compensation.

With Nate Sudfeld a restricted free agent and Josh McCown possibly retiring again, the Eagles could look towards the draft for another quarterback after 2019 fifth-round pick, Clayton Thorson never materialized.

The Birds are in Mobile to take in the Senior Bowl and according to Eric Edholm of Yahoo Sports, Philadelphia has initial conversations with former Michigan star quarterback, Shea Patterson.

Patterson knows the game and can be versatile since he worked with four different offensive coordinators during his time at Ole Miss and his final two seasons in Ann Arbor.

Patterson went 19-7 in two seasons as a starter for Michigan, and during the 2019 season, he topped 300 yards passing in each of his final three regular-season games as well.

Patterson was named to the All-Big Ten offensive third-team by both the coaches and media, while ending his final collegiate season with 3,061 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, becoming the third quarterback in program history to pass for over 3,000 yards in a season after John Navarre (3,331 yards in 2003) and Jake Rudock (3,017 yards in 2015).

Jason Peters future deemed the Eagles biggest looming 2020 free agent decision

Jason Peters future deemed the Eagles biggest looming 2020 free agent decision

The Philadelphia Eagles will start out NFL free agency with almost $50 million in salary-cap space according to Over The Cap, and there are some huge decisions to make.

Changes are coming to the roster and several players won’t return. The biggest decision in free agency for the Eagles appears to be left tackle Jason Peters, who’s a future Hall of Famer but has seen his play regress over the years.

Peters wants to return but with the Eagles using a first-round pick on Andre Dillard in 2019, Howie Roseman has a decision to make that ESPN deems the most important for Philadelphia this offseason.

The Eagles invested a first-round pick in the 2019 draft on tackle Andre Dillard to be Peters’ successor. But is he ready to take over? The coaching staff will have to give an honest assessment of that before the front office decides to move on from Peters, 37, who is not as dominant as he once was but remains better than most. — Tim McManus

Peters entered the late weeks of the 2019 season as one of the highest-graded linemen in football, so his production still is without question. Peters has hinted at switching positions and could be a candidate to play guard if needed.

3 sleeper stars from the Eagles 2019 season

Boston Scott was among three of the Eagles under the radar players to emerge this season

Not everyone on the Eagles roster was an All-Pro or highly thought of and we’ve named three Eagles players, sleepers and under the radar guys who were stars this season.

1. Boston Scott RB

Pick up after being waived by the Saints in the offseason, Scott wasn’t even on the Eagles 53-man roster at the beginning of the season. He finished the 2019 season as an integral member, amassing 350 total offensive yards and five touchdowns in the final four regular-season games.

Scott’s late-season surge ensured his roster spot for next season and may have pushed Jordan Howard out of Philadelphia.

Eagles ‘considering’ hiring a familiar name for new defensive line coach

Philadelphia Eagles ‘considering’ internal promotion at defensive line coach

The Philadelphia Eagles once again need a defensive line coach and the organization won’t have to look far to find an internal candidate.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, special assistant Matt Burke is a name that could replace Phillip Daniels as a defensive line coach.

Burke, 43, joined the Eagles before the 2019 season as a defensive special assistant under Jim Schwartz, and his relationship with the Eagles defensive coordinator goes all the way back to 2004 with the Titans.

The accolades continue to roll in for Miles Sanders and on Tuesday the Eagles running back was named to the 2019 PFWA All-Rookie Team.

San Francisco 49ers’ defensive end Nick Bosa was selected as the 2019 Rookie of the Year and the Defensive Rookie of the Year, chosen in voting conducted by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA).

Oakland Raiders running back Josh Jacobs, who led all NFL rookies in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, was selected as the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year over Sanders.

At the end of November, Sanders led ALL NFL rookies with 709 all-purpose yards and became the first NFL running back since Adrian Peterson, to amass 500+ scrimmage yards and 250+ return yards in his first 8 career games.

When November ended, Sanders was the only NFL rookie this season, to amass 200+ rush yards and 200+ rec. yards as well.

Sanders finished his rookie season with 179 rushes for 818 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Sanders was equally dangerous as a wide receiver, posting 50 catches for 509 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Two former great NFL wide receivers have an interest in sharing all of their knowledge and wisdom with the current group of Eagles skill players.

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that former Steelers legend Hines Ward and former Penn State star and Bears wide receiver, Bobby Engram, have interest in the job vacated by Carson Walch.

Ward, 44, who played 14 years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, just finished his first season as an offensive assistant with the Jets.

Engram, 47, who also had a 14-year NFL playing career, has been an assistant on John Harbaugh’s staff in Baltimore for the last five years. He spent the first four coaching the team’s wide receivers and took over the tight ends this season when Harbaugh brought in former Eagles assistant David Culley to coach the Ravens’ wideouts.

The Eagles will need permission to interview Ward, who is under contract with the Jets and Engram, who is currently under contract with the Ravens.
