Bachelorette Power Rankings: Awkward silence and strip dodgeball

Recapping Week 2 of “The Bachelorette.”

Episode 2 of Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette delivered one of the worst group dates of all time, but did any of the men close the gap on early favorite Dale?

We’ll be recapping each episode and ranking all the contestants weekly on FTW.

1. Dale

Last week: 1

It’s abundantly clear that Dale’s already got this “season” with Clare wrapped up. One of the major flashpoints of Episode 2 was the start of the cocktail party after the first group date, where a small awkward silence led Clare to question whether the group of men assembled (which included Dale) wanted her enough. As Clare waited for someone to immediately steal her away, Dale said or did absolutely nothing – yet somehow emerged from the night with an even greater lead on the pack.

Bennett stepped up to have the first interaction with Clare, but Clare quickly ditched him to go vent on the rest of the group. Another read of the situation could be that she simply wanted to find an excuse to spend time with Dale, the only man she’s interested in. She even had a gift planned for him – she brought out the blindfold from the group date and put it on Dale, and then had a passionate make-out session.

The episode preview spoils that Dale and Clare may sleep together as early as Episode 3, so we’ll hopefully be meeting the new Bachelorette sooner rather than later.

2. Jason

Last week: 4

Jason, the former NFL lineman who revealed he’s dropped 105 pounds since leaving football, scored the first 1-on-1 date of the show – but it wasn’t a “date” as much it was an “extremely heavy therapy session.”

The setup for the date was preposterous. Clare, seemingly tipped off by the producers that Jason had some emotional baggage, told Jason that she sensed he used humor to… mask sensitive personal issues he needed to work through? They shared a cathartic scream together to relieve stress, and Clare then had Jason write down hurtful words that have been used to harm him in the past.

These are not topics or conversations that people have on a first date, or in what may have been the second or third conversation they’ve ever had. This would have felt over-the-top as a final four date late in the season, let alone Episode 2.

Jason, to his credit, was willing to be vulnerable, and earned a rose for his troubles. They closed the date by burning the dress Clare wore on the finale of Juan Pablo’s season.

3. Blake Moynes

Last week: 2

After being shut out in the strip dodgeball group date, Blake Moynes blatantly violated show protocol by showing up at the winners’ cocktail party to have a conversation with Clare.

He interrupted Jay’s time with Clare, which led to all five men on the winning team storming back to confront Blake. Clare defused the situation… and later rewarded Blake at the pre-Rose Ceremony cocktail party by pulling him aside and preemptively giving him a rose for his bravado.

Many of the guys at the resort are already starting to feel uneasy over the Dale situation, and Clare rewarding Blake for breaking the rules is only going to lead to chaos.

4. Eazy

Last week: 3

Easy began his cocktail party conversation with Clare by rubbing her feet, which Clare remarked was “very thoughtful.”

Unfortunately for Eazy, he isn’t Dale.

5. Riley

Last week: T-8

Riley, a true gentleman, is arguably putting in more effort than anyone else to impress Clare, which leads me to believe that he’ll be a favorite for whoever replaces Clare as The Bachelorette.

After blowing up on Yosef, Riley made the most of his conversation with Clare by sharing a prom-style slow dance and asking her what she’s looking for in a husband – smooth moves that earned him the group date rose.

6. Chasen

Last week: 24

Chasen didn’t impress in Week 1, but he earned a surprise group date rose after the strip dodgeball game by opening up to Clare about being bullied over his height as a young man.

7. Zac C.

Last week: T-8

Zac had a deep conversation with Clare during a cocktail party, during which Clare opened up about being in an abusive relationship during her first run on The Bachelor, and finding her voice on the show.

8. Bennett

Last week: 22

Bennett is surging up the Bachelorette Power Rankings not because he has a shot with Clare, but because he’s the type of larger-than-life character this show needs once a season. He’s absolutely going to be taking all 10 pairs of loafers to Sayulita for a spell in Paradise, and I can’t wait.

9. Ben

Last week: 7

It was a quiet week for Ben, who was put on the spot as the first to speak in the first group date, but did a solid job in expressing his “love language.”

10. Kenny

Last week: 6

Kenny was mostly a non-factor in Episode 2, but I want to point out a quote from Clare that illustrates just how ridiculous and inappropriate the strip dodgeball game was.

“Look at Kenny’s ass. Just take a good look at it!”

Stay classy, The Bachelorette!

— The “guys who are just hanging around for a new Bachelorette” division —-

Clare isn’t even really trying with most of these guys, and as a result, many of them aren’t getting camera time.

21. Joe

Last week: 5

Joe was on the winning team of the dodgeball group date and was one of only five men spending time with Clare at the cocktail party afterward, yet we saw zero footage of Joe interacting with Clare. That’s not a good sign!

22. Yosef

Last week: 31

Yosef has established himself as the villain of the season, and made a serious tactical error when he said Clare was “crazy” to think all of the men aren’t here for her after the awkward silence incident. That earned him plenty of criticism on Twitter.

Yet Yosef made some great points about the dodgeball date after several men showed up near-naked following their “walk of shame.” It was classless, and yes, while there have been exploitative dates on The Bachelor in the past, producers would never tell a group of women that the game is over when they aren’t wearing any clothes.

23. Brandon (eliminated)

Last week: T-8

Brandon was caught in a lie during the cocktail party, when he told Clare that when he found out she was the Bachelorette, he knew he had to be on the show. Clare asked him to elaborate, and Brandon revealed that he didn’t know anything about her personally, other than that she’s a beautiful woman. When she pointed out the contradiction, all Brandon could muster was “you’re just so beautiful!”

Clare wisely decided on the spot that she was no longer interested in him, and asked to walk him out.

‘The Bachelorette’ predictions: How long does Clare’s season last, and who replaces her?

The new season of The Bachelorette seems set to end after just a few episodes, but what happens next?

Clare Crawley waited for months to film her season of The Bachelorette, but it seems that her journey for love only took a few minutes once filming finally began. Clare fell in love with former NFL player Dale Moss at first sight when he stepped out of the limo, and ABC is already teasing Clare’s early exit from the show.

What’s going to happen, and who could replace Clare as The Bachlorette? FTW’s Bachelor experts Steven Ruiz and Nick Schwartz make their predictions below.

Who wins Clare’s heart?

Is ABC trying to pull a fast one on us? That’s really the question here, right?

Because Dale had that heart clinched about 15 seconds after he stepped out of the limo. The only other option is Blake, who apparently broke protocol to check in on Clare during quarantine and was rewarded in the end with a rose. He’s basically the Tennessee Titans of this operation and they have yet to lose this season despite some close calls early on. Maybe Blake has the same luck and swoops in to steal Clare’s heart from Dale at the last moment. – Steven Ruiz

Yeah, Clare’s heart has already been won, the only real question is whether Dale is exposed by the rest of the cast before they blow up the show and restart with a second Bachelorette. The men turn against Dale and claim that he’s a different person than who he’s pretending to be, but at this point, I find it hard to believe Clare changes her mind given what we’ve seen and what we know is coming. – Nick Schwartz

How long does Clare’s season last and who will replace her?

Based on the previews we’ve seen for the season, I’d say we’re looking at six episodes of content at most. There were a handful of one-on-ones in there and some group dates and there seemed to still be a lot of dudes when the “Clare obviously picks Dale and abandons the show” scenes happened. As for who replaces here, I *think* I know who it ends up being but me picking her is no fun, so I’ll go with someone else. How about Cassie? At the very least, being in the Bachelorette bubble will make it easier to stay away from Colton. – SR

I’d say we have 4 Clare episodes remaining, assuming that ABC isn’t going to extend the season by a month (which is possible). What I’m very interested to find out is whether the men that Clare eliminated are allowed to return for the new Bachelorette.

As for her replacement, it’s not a particularly closely guarded secret that Tayshia is rumored to be in waiting. If that’s the case, it’s good news, as Tayshia has the qualities that would make her a solid season star. I would expect her season to be less chaotic than Hannah B.’s, which is both a good and bad thing.

There are a few other good options. I wouldn’t take anyone from Peter’s season of The Bachelor, which was an absolute mess, but Colton’s season was full of potential Bachelorettes, like Heather or Elyse.

Clare’s biggest mistake on Night 1

I don’t know if it matters since Clare was all-in on Dale from the jump, but getting involved in the weird drama between Yosef and Tyler C., which monopolized her time and prevented her from talking to all the guys. I’m still not entirely sure what was going on there, but it was pretty obvious by his reaction that Yosef did whatever he was being accused of doing. I mean, look at this…

If you accuse someone of something and the first words out their mouth are “First of all…,” that’s all you really need to hear. They did it. Case closed.
Why didn’t Yosef just say “No?” And why didn’t Clare immediately end the conversation and kick both of them off the premises? Yosef for being guilty as hell and Tyler C. for thinking it was smart to start that drama on Night 1, a move with a 0% success rate. – SR

Not sending home Chasen, the suit of armor guy. He just left a giant pile of armor on the walkway, forcing Chris Harrison to take care of the cleanup! That’s not very chivalrous of you, bro. – NS

Bachelorette Power Rankings: Has Clare already settled on Dale?

Recapping the first episode of ‘The Bachelorette.’

Clare Crawley’s season of ‘The Bachelorette’ finally began on Tuesday night – and a season unlike any other seems destined to have an unprecedented mid-season twist, as the previews teased the arrival of a new Bachelorette. Is Clare ready to commit and leave the show after a love-at-first-sight encounter?

We’ll be recapping each episode and ranking all the contestants weekly on FTW.

1. Dale

Dale’s connection with Clare is almost too good to be true, which has many Bachelorette fans questioning whether he and Clare met previously before the show.

Dale’s first impression out of the limo was rather forgettable, but Clare seemingly fell in love with him on the spot. After he went inside, she remarked that she felt like she just met her husband – something Chris Harrison says has never happened before in the history of the show.

During a conversation later in the show, Dale asked how Clare’s mother is doing, and brings up his own family. We can only see the clips of conversations ABC wants us to see, but the entire exchange felt way too familiar, especially given that it centered around sensitive topics like family and illnesses.

Clare later rewarded Dale with the first impression rose, and they shared a passionate kiss that Clare said she’s been waiting for. The question is just how long has she been waiting? I believe Clare and Dale know each other on some level – the same way Peter had a connection with Kelley before his season – and that they tried to conceal that in the first episode.

The episode preview more or less spoils the arc of the show. Dale already has a tremendous lead on the field, the other men in the house try to alert Clare to Dale’s real character, and may even stage a walkout when Clare chooses Dale over the rest. We even see a clip of Clare and Dale in bed together, which typically isn’t something that happens until fantasy suites very late in the season.

2. BLAKE MOYNES

Blake Moynes scored the first kiss of the show with Clare, after she revealed that he broke Bachelorette protocol by contacting her during the shutdown before filming began. Blake apparently messaged Clare to let her know she was in his thoughts, which Clare says “meant everything to her.”

I really thought Blake was the favorite to win the first impression rose, but he’s built up enough goodwill to cruise for the next few weeks – or at least until Clare “blows up ‘The Bachelorette.'”

3. EAZY

Eazy is an energetic, fun-loving guy, and if we didn’t already know who the next Bachelor is, I could see him being a very popular choice. In his first conversation with Clare, they talked about their families and seemed to have some chemistry.

4. JASON

Jason, the guy who stepped out of the limo with a fake belly as a callback to Clare’s meeting with Juan Pablo, had the most interesting conversation of the night with Clare.

Jason: “I want a cabin in the woods!”

Clare: “Are you going to be murdering people there?”

I’m not sure what to make of that. Clare either feels comfortable enough with Jason to joke about murder, or she thinks he might murder people in cabins. He got the rose, though, which is all that matters for now.

5. JOE

Dr. Joe seems like he’s ultimately headed to Paradise, but he’s really going the extra mile for Clare. He dropped a wonderfully over the top line in his intro – “I’m here to save your life. Your love life.” – and later set up an entire table of origami during their cocktail party conversation.

6. KENNY

Kenny wins the award for the suavest move of the night during his limo exit. He wore a shirt with pictures of Clare’s two dogs printed on his, which led her to touch his chest in order to “pet” her dogs.

He didn’t have any chance to talk to Clare later on because of the Tyler-Yosef drama, but there was no way she was forgetting the shirt.

7. BEN

Ben gets an ‘A’ for effort and a ‘D’ for execution. During the cocktail party, Ben brought Clare outside to play a carnival test-of-strength game – a memorable experience compared to most of the boring conversations she had with other guys – but after she hit the machine and landed in the “first kiss” area, Ben….. did not get a first kiss. That was your big moment, Ben!

— The ‘Guys We Don’t Really Know Yet’ Division —

T-8. BRANDON

Brandon was the only person to kiss Clare on the cheek after stepping out of the limo, but was invisible the rest of the night.

T-8. BRENDAN

It’s going to take me the entire season to be able to tell Brendon from Brandon.

T-8. ED

Ed showed up inside a giant bubble because he “wanted to be prepared,” and later played an oversized bowling game with Clare using the bubble.

T-8. BLAKE MONAR

Who?

T-8. DEMAR

Demar wore a parachute to the mansion because he “may have fallen” for Clare already. He didn’t get a chance to talk to Clare later in the night, but survived the Rose Ceremony.

T-8. GARIN

Garin introduced himself as “kind of fun,” which seems strange. You’re only kind of fun, Garin?

T-8. IVAN

Ivan spoke Tagalog in his first meeting with Clare, but did not get a chance to speak with her after the limo exit.

T-8. JAY

Jay came out of the limo wearing a straitjacket, and proceeded to wear it for the entire night. These costume gags on the first night almost never work, but Jay somehow advanced to the second episode despite not getting to talk to Clare. It may have been the first pity rose of the season.

T-8. JORDAN C.

Jordan C. brought Clare popcorn – or potentially just brought himself popcorn and strategically let Clare have a few pieces. Either way, smart move.

T-8. RILEY

Riley, an attorney, dropped a hilarious line on Clare at the limo exit, telling her that she’d be found “guilty as charged for looking beautiful in this dress.”

T-8. TYLER S.

I *think* Tyler S. had the first post-limo conversation with Clare, and told her that he wanted to be on the show for her specifically, not just for any random woman. ABC did a fairly poor job with name chyrons throughout the show, so it’s entirely possible I’m mistaking Tyler S. for someone else.

T-8. ZAC C.

Zac C. had months to think up a charming introduction for when he got out of the limo to meet Clare, but all he managed was to tell her he’s “happy [he] didn’t settle.” Lame.

T-8. ZACH J.

Zach J. is “the guy who brought a gag ring box that doubles as a fart machine.” To be fair, there are worse guys to be.

21. MIKE (eliminated)

Mike, the Canadian who looks like he might be an NHL player, brought Clare a pair of sandals for comfort and later put them on her feet in their one-on-one conversation, which maybe was over the line. Still, he seemed like a better option than several of the men Clare offered roses to.

22. BENNETT

Bennett is destined to become a Paradise legend. He showed up in a Rolls Royce wearing a scarf, and spend his evening drinking martinis. This is an actual quote from Bennett:

“I went to Harvard, of course I’m proud of that. They call it the H-Bomb when you drop that.”

Bennett was born to be on this show, and while I’m certain he has absolutely zero chance with Clare (or any other future Bachelorette), he’s going to be a blast to experience.

23. TYLER C. (eliminated)

Tyler C. delivered the first real dose of Bachelorette drama this season, and it may have led to his surprise elimination. Tyler, from Morgantown, had dirt on Yosef, who Tyler says is guilty of “being reckless on Instagram.”

According to Tyler, he was contacted by a college student at West Virginia who had been contacted with a mass text from Yosef. Worried that Yosef might not be here for the right reasons, Tyler pulled Yosef aside and discussed what he knew, but showed no intention of going to Clare with the information.

Yosef defended himself poorly, saying that he doesn’t remember what Tyler was talking about – but then immediately went to Clare and said that Tyler was attempting to drag his name through the mud. Clare then pulled both men aside for a group discussion, and Yosef said he didn’t currently have a girlfriend (but left open the possibility that he’s messaging lots of women).

At the Rose Ceremony, though, Clare passed over Tyler C. and offered her last rose to Yosef. That’s probably not going to end well.

24. CHASEN

Chasen wore a full suit of armor to meet Clare, then awkwardly stripped it all off and left it sitting on a walkway for Chris Harrison to clean up.

25. JORDAN M. (eliminated)

Jordan M. may have been a “tall drink of water,” but Clare just wasn’t that thirsty.

26. AJ (eliminated)

AJ wore a burgundy suit, which was a nice move to differentiate himself – but then squeezed her hands way too hard as he babbled about the percentage of people who have green eyes.

27. CHRIS (eliminated)

Chris had an entirely forgettable entrance and was missing from the rest of the show. Not a surprising elimination.

28. PAGE (eliminated)

Page, one of the two dads on the cast, also may hold the Bachelorette record for most tattoos.

29. JEREMY (eliminated)

30. ROBBY (eliminated)

I can’t remember who these guys are, honestly, and neither could Clare.

31. YOSEF

In his first conversation with Clare, Yosef assured her that he’s “here for the right reasons.” That’s the first warning flag that a person may not be here for the right reasons. It’s like Fight Club.

Yosef’s explanation to Clare when asked if he’s messaging college girls was simply baffling, and should have led to an immediate ejection. I mean, just look at this transcript:

Clare: “Did you do that?”

Yosef: “First of all…. I mean, if I was going to message someone, they respond to me.”

What? Yosef then went on dodge the allegation further by telling her that the “main thing” is that he doesn’t currently have a girlfriend. That’s reassuring!

Marvel fans have a crazy theory for ‘Spider-Man 3’ after Dr. Strange news

Plot twist?!

Imagine three Spider-Men in “Spider-Man 3.” Perhaps it’s not so far-fetched.

Doctor Strange will be in “Spider-Man 3,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, which has left Marvel fans dreaming up a fascinating and fun plot twist for the movie.

We know, per THR, Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will act as a mentor with the death of Tony Stark and the absence of Nick Fury, who was last seen riding a space ship at the end of “Spider-Man: Far From Home.”

We also know that director Jon Watts is reintroducing Jamie Foxx’s Electro, who was a villain in a previous iteration of the movies, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” when Andrew Garfield played Peter Parker. The decision is an oddity considering Marvel tends to distance itself from previous versions of the same story.

What Marvel fans are suggesting is that Strange will help Tom Holland’s Spider-Man access the Multiverse, where he’ll come into contact with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.

That theory would make sense when combined with the reappearance of Electro — perhaps he, too, travels through the multiverse. Cumberbatch is also shooting the third Doctor Strange movie, “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.” Again, that name helps fuel the fan theories.

This plot twist would be too much fun, even if — we all know — Holland’s Spider-Man is the best, by far.

A fly landed on Mike Pence’s head during the vice presidential debate and Twitter had jokes

This fly stuck around for a bit.

The only vice presidential debate of 2020 took place Wednesday night in Utah and while lots of serious topics were talked about by both Vice President Mike Pence and democratic nominee Kamala Harris, there was a light moment that quickly went viral – a fly landed on Pence’s head and hung out there for a while.

Now, I don’t care who you’re voting for or how you feel about the issues. We can all laugh about a fly landing on the VP’s head during a very serious event. It’s silly and OK, which are the kind of things we need right now more than ever.

Check out this fly:

Joe Biden’s social team had some fun with it:

And so did Twitter:

Musicians and fans share tributes to guitar legend Eddie Van Halen, who died Tuesday at age 65

RIP, Eddie Van Halen.

Eddie Van Halen, the legendary guitarist who co-founded the legendary band Van Halen, passed away Tuesday at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer.

Saying Eddie Van Halen is a legendary guitarist might even be an understatement, because the things he did during his career and the way he played changed the way many people created music forever.

When Van Halen was at its peak, Eddie Van Halen was easily one of the coolest humans on the planet, idolized by just about everyone who either played a real guitar or wailed on an air guitar while listening to Van Halen’s monster hit songs.

I mean, this was the stuff of legend:

His son announced the sad news on Tuesday:

Heartbroken musicians and fans paid their tributes:

Watch Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin as Biden and Trump in hilarious ‘SNL’ presidential debate

Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Donald Trump, and Jim Carrey joined as Joe Biden in the SNL season debut.

Well, we all knew this was coming, and to give Saturday Night Live credit, they didn’t miss the mark.

Alec Baldwin returned as Donald Trump and Jim Carrey made a debut as Joe Biden in the opening night of this season of SNL on Saturday. The show’s cold open was a “replay” of Tuesday’s presidential debate, though as the intro noted, it feels like that was 100 days ago.

I was wondering how SNL would handle the fact that we’ve had multiple bombshell news drops since the debate — most notably the president and first lady’s positive COVID-19 tests — and they dealt with it by not really dealing it with, instead flashing back to Tuesday for the debate.

Hard to blame them too much. It’s tough to stay on top of things when the world completely changes every 48 hours.

Jordan Brand just unveiled the Jordan 35 and it looks pretty good

Wow these are nice.

One of Jordan Brand’s biggest flaws as a sneaker company is that it has always been and probably will always be stuck in the shadow of Michael Jordan’s past.

Jordan’s beginnings mean a lot to the shoe game. He dropped classic sneaker after classic sneaker for nearly two decades. There was always bound to be a drop off — especially after he stopped playing.

But the brand is going through a remodel of sorts. They’ve got in a new crop of young hoopers and Jordan is hoping one of its athletes will break through.

They’ll get their first chance to do that with the Jordan 35.

The brand unveiled the latest Jordan sneaker on Thursday along with various colorways for the different Jordan Brand hoopers on the roster, including Zion Williamson, Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic.

They look pretty dope.

They’re solid. Especially that Rui Hachimura black and red colorway — this one feels like an old, classic J.

Williamson also has his own “Bayou Boys” colorway coming.

These are good. No, it’s definitely not the signature Jordan models of old. But the 35 isn’t supposed to be. It’s supposed to be something different.

For the first time in a while with Jordan, it finally feels like it.

‘Masked Singer’ fans are trying to figure out which athletes are in the cast

We dive into Season 4.

The Masked Singer is back for another round of mystery celebrities belting out tunes while in costume, and in seasons’ past, we’ve seen Barry Zito, Rob Gronkowski, Victor Oladipo and other athletes appear.

With the Season 4 premiere on Wednesday, we heard from host nick Cannon that there’s someone with an Olympic gold medal in the mix. Hmmm.

So the guesses as to the owner of that gold medal — and who else could be an athlete — has begun.

There are two singers that have been called out as possible pros. The Sun spoke about getting burned out after being a star for a while, and some “extreme seasons.” She smacked away some asteroids with tennis rackets (hmm) and was a “gold member” (like a gold medal perhaps?). So there are some Lindsey Vonn guesses:

However, did you see that Mickey Mouse logo in the middle of the clues video? I think this is Demi Lovato. But if it is Vonn, it’s cool to find out she has an incredible voice.

Meanwhile, the Giraffe seems really tall, so there were some guesses about it being a pro, with talk about swinging higher and being “off to the races.”

I haven’t seen a good guess for this one yet, but we’ll keep an eye out as always.
