Josh Allen: Anthony Richardson might have biggest arm in NFL

Josh Allen had some high praise for Anthony Richardson.

There is much excitement surrounding Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson and his prospects for Year 2 in the NFL.

One of the reasons Colts fans have a right to be excited about what Richardson can bring to the table during his second season is due to the uncanny arm strength he showed flashes of during his short rookie campaign.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen saw those flashes and gave Richardson some high praise during Super Bowl week when he was asked by Fox Sports 1 who has the best arm in the game.

“Do you know who has a sneaky big arm is Bake, Baker Mayfield. (Matthew) Stafford has a big arm, Bake’s (Baker Mayfield) has a big arm, I have a big arm, Pat’s (Patrick Mahomes) got a big arm. There’s a lot of talented guys in this league, I think Anthony Richardson might have the biggest one we’ll see.”

That’s some extremely high praise from one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Richardson was often compared to a similar mold of Allen when entering the league simply due to his dual-threat abilities as a passer and a runner.

After missing the majority of his rookie season due to a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery the Colts need Richardson to stay healthy if they want a chance to compete for a playoff spot in 2024.

If he does stay healthy, that elite arm strength will be put on display each and every week while he continues to develop the deeper parts of his game.

Super Bowl LVIII: Staff picks for Chiefs vs. 49ers

The Colts Wire staff is all-in on another Chiefs Super Bowl victory.

Super Bowl LVIII has finally arrived as the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers are set to duke it out for the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.

The 49ers are looking to exact revenge on the Chiefs from their loss in Super Bowl LIV. San Francisco was the best team in the NFC this season, entering the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. The Chiefs had their struggles in 2023 but quickly proved it’s unwise to bet against them in the playoffs.

Colts’ highlights from 2024 Pro Bowl Games

Check out the Colts’ highlights from the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

A quartet of Indianapolis Colts players represented the organization at the 2024 Pro Bowl Games in Orlando over the weekend.

As the league continues to move further away from the traditional All-Star Game format, instead opting for a week of events and mini-games, the Colts were well-represented by some of the biggest leaders in the locker room.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew, left guard Quenton Nelson, center Ryan Kelly and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner all took part in the weekend events.

Minshew and Kelly were the only players to participate in Thursday’s skills showdown. Minshew competed in the Precision Passing event with the other Pro Bowl quarterbacks while Kelly competed in the snap shot event with the other centers.

From being mic’d up to shining in the flag football game to end the weekend, here are the highlights from the Colts players during the 2024 Pro Bowl Games.

Colts’ Gardner Minshew on upcoming free agency: ‘Ain’t no tellin’, man’

Gardner Minshew gave his thoughts on upcoming free agency.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Gardner Minshew brought plenty of vibes to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games in Orlando this week during his first appearance at the NFL’s all-star festivities.

Minshew, who joined the Colts during the 2023 offseason via free agency, is once again preparing to hit the market. It’s a slightly different perspective this time around, though, considering Minshew started a career-high 13 games this season after Anthony Richardson underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in October.

When asked by NFL.com at the Pro Bowl this week about his future in free agency, Minshew answered the only way he knew how.

“Ain’t no tellin’, man, ain’t no tellin’,” Minshew said. “That’s something they gotta tell me, that free agency stuff.”

Minshew followed Shane Steichen to Indy after spending two seasons working with the latter when he was the offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 2023 season marked his third consecutive campaign working in Steichen’s offense.

Amid some ups and downs from Minshew, he was a large reason why the Colts were able to finish with a 9-8 record, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth in Steichen’s first season as head coach.

“So comfortable with Shane,” Minshew said. “The open communication the whole time, just really loved Shane and playing for him.”

Bringing Minshew back would be a fine choice for the Colts. He’s loved in the locker room, he understands the offense extremely well, and he has a strong relationship with the rest of the quarterback room.

As in most cases, it will come down to money. The Colts are unlikely to pay Minshew starter money considering they already have one, but Minshew may be seeking that kind of deal after getting another taste of that role.

Regardless of what happens, Minshew looks back on his first season with the Colts fondly.

“Just super grateful, man. Had a lot of good people around me this year,” Minshew said. “Loved it, man. Just super proud of the season we had, the work we put in and, man, just loved the guys we had and wish it would’ve never ended.”

Colts’ biggest salary-cap hits entering 2024 offseason

Big Q and DeFo lead the Colts’ salary-cap hits entering the offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off an encouraging season in the first campaign under head coach Shane Steichen.

Though they narrowly missed out on the playoffs, the fact that they were in the hunt until the final game of the season with a backup quarterback proves how far this team has come since the disastrous 2022 season.

Most of the offseason attention will be spent on the 2024 NFL draft, in which the Colts hold the No. 15 overall pick. However, they also are among the leaders in salary-cap space entering the offseason.

When taking a look at some of these cap hits, they include roster bonuses that don’t go into effect until March but since they are on the roster as of this writing, we’ll assume they will be until something changes.

Though the Colts aren’t in desperate need to add more cap space, some of these contracts could be offloaded or restructured.

Before getting into those potential decisions, here’s a quick look at the biggest salary-cap hits for the Colts entering the 2024 offseason, via Over The Cap.
